Hey there and a Big Welcome to Day 7 of Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017 – let’s keep moving on!

NOTE:

In order to see any of the previous day’s posts – check out My Posts blog roll on the bottom right hand side.

We’re about half way through Part 4 of Jays 4 part video series as linked below:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/2017-live-niche-site-case-study-series-4-of-4/play

Here’s a recap on what I did yesterday – Day 6:

  • Talked about our niche and who we are inside our reviews and the information we create
  • Added content to our Contact page / Possible Contact Form 7
  • Added content to our Privacy Policy

So today, once again, it’s going to be about Content, Content and more Content!

Adding Content to Our Pages continued…

Home Page

Jay starts out with creating a Gallery / Slideshow of 2 images on his Home Page with a plugin called Widgetkit by a company called Yoo Theme – this is where Jay gets his Themes from

For my site I won’t be creating a Gallery, but if this is something you wish to do, you can follow through with this particular part of the training at 25:04 mins – 32:00 mins

Jay then creates other pages which we already posted about yesterday:

  • Contact Page
  • Privacy Policy

And then comes back to the creating the rest of the content on the Home page at 43:45 mins

We’re going to be embedding a YouTube video on our Home page.

The value of adding a YouTube video about our main keyword on our Home page from a technical stand point is twofold:

1. It will make your visitors stay on your site longer – when people stay on your site for more than 60 seconds, it creates a bit of SEO value

2. If you find a video that’s directly related to your main keyword and embed that on your site, there’s more SEO value there as well

The thing to ensure here is that the video you choose is not too long, under 4 mins.

So let’s go to YouTube…

And find a video that has our main keyword in the title and is under 4 minutes – this may take a bit of researching, I found one that I liked within 5 minutes – you can do this by typing your keyword into the YouTube search bar

Once you’ve found a video > below the video you will click Share > if you see the word Embed and an embed link you’re able to share and embed this video on your site > if that’s the case ***copy the URL at the top search bar and we’ll use this soon

Something I didn’t know and that Jay shares, is that there is sometimes a problem with the embed code. Sometimes it’s not responsive, meaning the video will not always adjust its size based on the viewing environment, so it might not adjust its size if being viewed on a phone.

There’s a workaround and that’s ‘embed responsively’ – embedresponsively dot com > select YouTube as the Media Source > ***paste in the URL that you copied previously from the top of the top search bar > click on the Embed code > ***copy the code provided in the Embed code box

Now we’re going to go back to our Home page by going > Dashboard > Pages > Hover over our Home page and click Edit > Below the text already there, create a new line, centre it > Go to Text – top right > ***Paste the Embed code we copied previously > Click Update

If you go back to Visual viewing you will now see your video embedded on your Home page. What the code did was adapt the video to my theme and the video will adapt when viewed on a phone.

The fact that we’ve done this also affects rankings. If you go into your Google Search Console and look at the Mobile Visibility tab, if you specifically have a video on a page, without doing this process that video will probably show up having an error.

I’ve actually bookmarked embedresponsively dot com for future reference and use.

Blog Content

Now that Jay has got to this point with his website he’s thinking about blog content. Because he’s created a website about induction cookware sets his blog posts will be about:

  • How to clean your induction cookware
  • Why choosing copper vs enamel
  • Doing vs posts – one product against another etc,.

These posts will link back to his main 3 Product reviews that we talked about in yesterday’s post – Day 6 – His reviews were:

  • An induction product under $100
  • An induction product between $100 and $500
  • An induction product $500 and over

So even if you’re only promoting one product, your blog roll is all about linking back to that main product review with internal links.

Jay suggests publishing content once a week at this point, I know he said previously that it should be once or twice for a new website, so I’m going to stick with this recommendation.

So now I’ve gone ahead and written a post and posted it on my website. This is not product review post, it’s a long tailed keyword ‘how to’ post I’ve put together so I have some beginning content on my site.

Even with my ‘how to’ posts I’ll be doing Keyword research with the WA Keyword Tool here and as you’ll see below my post has few searches but the competition is only 9, which I’m pretty happy with.

I’ve decided with my site that I’m NOT GOING TO HAVE A BLOG ROLL and instead have my Main Menu with different Product Brand tabs as I’ll be reviewing about 5 different Product Brands within my niche.

Because I will be posting reviews I’m going to use a Star Rating plugin – Jay also recommends this plugin which is called WP Product Review Lite.

Well, hey…

That’s the end of today, Day 7…

Woohoo!

You should give yourself a pat on the back if you’ve gone through these posts!

We have today completed Jays 4 Part Series of his 2017 LIVE Niche Case Study.

Tomorrow we’ll be on Day 8 of Learn how to build a website yourself in WordPress in 2017 where I’ll be researching and creating content all ready to put on my site once a week.

Thanks so much for coming along, and again, you’re most welcome to leave a comment or ask a question below if you wish to do so, thanks and …

Cheers,

Jacqueline
