Hey there and a Big Welcome to Day 13 of Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017 – we’re still on content, so let’s keep moving!

I’ve been away for a few days with a family emergency but we’re getting right back into it today…

NOTE:

In order to see any of the previous day’s posts – check out My Posts blog roll on the bottom right hand side.

Now for a recap on what I did in Day 12:

So Today…

We’re going to go ahead with creating our second post…

I’ve already put up my first post on my website on Day 7 but I do have to apologize that I didn’t really go through the process of my keyword research, creating our post etc,. with you.

I feel we’ve gone through the keyword research process properly now, with Day 12's Post, so now we’re going to create our second post.

I’m still going through Jays training using SEO in our article that we started with in Day 8, AND we’ll be breaking down how to create our content today.

This post is about ‘how’ we create our content in a document (whether that be Notepad, WordPress or whatever else you use) BEFORE WE EVEN POST IT to our website.

In Day 8 I posted about my process for preparing my content

  • Written my content
  • Indicated what my H1, H2 etc., Tags will be - The Heading Tags
  • Created my screenshots and have them available in a specific folder
  • Indicated where my screenshots will be placed
  • Downloaded any images and have them available in a specific folder
  • Indicated where my images will be placed
  • Have my affiliate links ready whether they be as a text link, an image link or both

And we’re going to follow through with that process today...

Written My Content

Headline / Title:

Your headline / title is the first thing the search engines will look at when determining trying to rank your website and it's the first thing we as searchers see as well.

Make sure you use your main keyword in the title and use no more than 70 characters, including the spaces. If you use more than 70 characters the rest will be cut off in the browser window.

If you think about when you search for something yourself, you’ll most likely click on the headline that directly relates to the search you tapped in, so we want to make sure that our headline / title is directly related to our content.

I know this sounds really basic, but I’m amazed at some of the searches I come across…

For instance…

At least once a day I’ll be searching something, see the headline I think relates directly to my search, open the link AND THEN FIND that the content has no relation to what I was searching – that’s a quick click away for me, and it’s not good for SEO for the website that I landed on.

I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I'm going to say it again - having someone stay on your site for more than 60 seconds is good SEO, so you want to make sure your H1 tag and the following content is directly related to your headline

Content in General

I usually write my content as if I’m talking to a friend, this way the content flows and you’re relatable to your visitors. After I've written my content conversationally, I go back through it and add in my keywords and related keywords so they look natural.

Indicated what my H1, H2 etc., Tags will be - The Heading Tags

The H1 tag should be different from the title but still have the main keyword in it. The header tags in general helps the search engines interpret your page's content easier and helps visitors to navigate your content.

If you don’t use a Header 1 tag, make sure to put your main keyword in the first paragraph and make sure that’s above the scroll – above the scroll just means everything that you can see before you scroll down.

Created my screenshots and have them available in a specific folder

Indicated where my screenshots will be placed

Downloaded any images and have them available in a specific folder

Indicated where my images will be placed

I’ve bunched the four above together as they relate to screenshots and images. We covered where to get images in Post 9 so we’re going to move onto ‘alt’ tags.

Screenshots, images, graphics etc,. should all have their 'alt' tags, it's important to add good 'alt' tags that are relevant to your image, this makes it easy for the algorithms to 'see' what your image is about.

In a folder I will have my images ready with their alt tags and I will indicate in my post where I want them placed with something like this:

*** image here – alt tag - potty training your puppy

Just as a note:

I always have an image at the top of my posts, most likely to the left, as our eyes travel from left to right when reading. I also always have at least one or two images per scroll, I find images pleasing to the eye and they help to break up the text.

We’ll go through the process of adding alt tags when we post our content onto our site.

Have my affiliate links ready whether they be as a text link, an image link or both

I gather my affiliate links whether they be just an image, a text or a both and indicate where in my post they will appear and also indicate what they will be with something like this:

*** affiliate link here – image link only - Puppy Training E-book

Well, that’s us for today, tomorrow we’ll be posting our content onto our site, along with Jay’s training video.

I hope your day is going great… and I'll see you...

Tomorrow as we’ll be on Day 14 of Learn how to build a website yourself in WordPress in 2017!

Thanks for reading to the end of my post, and once again, you’re most welcome to leave a comment or ask a question below if you wish to do so, it's always great hearing from you...

Cheers,

Jacqueline

Hello Jacqueline. Was missing your post the last days! Though you gave up on us. :)

Hey there Eric,

There's no way I'm giving up on this... Onwards and upwards here!

I had a family emergency over the last few days, it's all sorted now and we get to carry on from where we left off.

We're posting our content today for our second post which is pretty exciting stuff. It's amazing how quickly you can create a website with content - just need to get that first affiliate commission!

Cheers and thanks for coming along and leaving a comment Eric, it really is very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jacqueline

Happy to hear that everything is back on track. Looking forward to read your next post. It's not that it would be complete new stuff for me. Still sometimes you mention something I never thought off. That makes it very helpful and it is some sort of confirmation, that I did it the right way. Once again: Thanks for this series!

Hey there Eric,

Thanks for the 'Happy to hear that everything is back on track', that's why I really like this platform, you find the loveliest people that you would never have met before and you get to connect with people from all over the world - it's such a buzz!

I know what you mean about this not being completely new stuff, BUT, I know that as I'm writing out these posts I find more stuff that I didn't know I knew - if that makes sense.

I'm trying to make sure that as I'm going through the tasks I talk as much as possible about not just what I'm doing but why I'm doing. By doing this it's also a verification to myself that what I'm doing makes sense and it has a reason.

Thanks again Eric for coming along and leaving another comment, you're a gem.

Cheers,

Jacqueline

You're welcome!

Hey there John,
