Hey there and a Big Welcome to Day 11 of Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017 – We're going to cover keyword research!

NOTE:

In order to see any of the previous day’s posts – check out My Posts blog roll on the bottom right hand side.

To start off with, here’s a recap on what we chatted about yesterday – Day 10

  • Are we really willing to do what it takes to succeed?
  • Outlined that we’re concentrating on getting traffic ONLY from organic traffic – which is traffic directly from Googles search engines – no paid traffic
  • Noted that we need our keywords to be basically on the first page of Google to make affiliate commissions
  • Noted that this is a mid to long term strategy

Let’s move on…

So in Day 8 we talked about coming up with ‘keyword concepts’ and I said I wouldn’t go through keyword research as there’s plenty of training here on WA that goes into that.

BUT…

After yesterday’s post about the fact that we’re concentrating on getting traffic ONLY from organic traffic – which is traffic directly from Googles search engines - I want to make sure that we’ve gone through our keyword research properly.

We want to make sure that every post counts and therefore our keyword research needs to reflect that AND we especially want to concentrate on Long Tailed Keywords.

In my very first post:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/jacquelines1/blog/day-1-learn-how-to-build-a-website-yourself-in-wordpress-2017 I pointed to a post by a fellow WA member, Robert, and I want to go back to his training and see him break down keyword research.

Before we go into Roberts training I would like you to go to Google’s search engine and type in your keyword.

I’m going to use puppy potty training for this example: once I’ve typed that into the Google search box, Google gives me some suggestions in the drop-down:

  • puppy potty training tips
  • puppy potty training classes
  • puppy potty training schedule
  • puppy potty training spray

These suggestions are the keywords that people are ‘actually’ tying into Google after they’ve typed in puppy potty training, so these are great keywords to use as some of your related keywords – depending on their parameters inside of the WA Keyword Tool.

I know that the competition for puppy potty training is 313 which is outside the parameters but when I see a lot of the add-on keywords, I can see that their competition is much lower.

Instead of the word training I could also look at related keywords like ‘techniques’ or ‘guidance’, I haven’t looked at whether these are ok, but I’m just trying to get across that there’s so many related keywords that you could be going for inside of your post content.

You don’t have to write several posts to go after many of the related keywords you want to rank for, a lot of them could be in just one post.

So now…

We’re off to Robert’s WA keyword tool training:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-use-the-wa-keyword-tool/doing-keyword-research-with-wa-keyword-tool

He has four pages of training:

  • How I Use the WA Keyword Tool
  • Making a Long Tail Keyword Longer
  • Decreasing the Monthly Competition Results (QSR)
  • Lowest Competition Results, What is Article Power, PPC Power & Dig

I would HIGHLY SUGGEST going through this process with Robert, ‘proof’s in the pudding’ with his training, he says he has 30% of his website pages and posts on Google Page 1 just by using the WA Keyword Tool exclusively – that’s pretty impressive.

Now…

Even if you’ve already been through this training and you have your main keyword, please go through the training again.

The reason for this request is because:

You now have several keywords that you could investigate after you’ve gone through the Google search exercise.

Like I said, you may have already been through this process but it’s great to go through and double check, you want to be writing your post with the best chance of being ranked in Google for as many keywords as possible.

Remember no keyword stuffing, your content still has to be readable and make sense, so make sure to write your content with your visitor in mind.

Well, I’m going to leave it there for today, please go through the exercise and find yourself some great long tailed keywords.

Here’s to you having a fantastic day rest of the day…I’ll see you tomorrow as

Tomorrow we’ll be on Day 11 of Learn how to build a website yourself in WordPress in 2017 where we will carry on from where we left off today!

Thanks so much for coming along, and again, you’re most welcome to leave a comment or ask a question below if you wish to do so, thanks and …

Cheers,

Jacqueline

Keywords still confuse me, but I intend to keep plugging away until I understand everything. Your posts are always informative and impressive. Thank you

Hey there Luba,

I completely understand where you're coming from about keywords, it can take a while to get your head around them, BUT, once you do you'll be well on your way to getting some great low competition keywords.

Take a look at Day 12 Luba as I go into keyword research in a lot more detail.

Cheers,

Jacqueline

Yes, keyword stuffing is a no no. Thanks for the tips Jacqueline.
Jerome

Absolutely Jerome,

Your posts have to read naturally and your post won't do that with keyword stuffing.

You're most welcome for the tips Jerome, thank you for coming along and leaving another comment, it's most appreciated.
