Private Blog Networks

Hi Guys!

I like the concept of PBN, or Private Blog Network. It’s quite an interesting tactic. Simply put, a PBN is a bunch of websites with the sole mission to point to the main website, via backlinks. As you all know, backlinks are a major criterion taken by search engines to rank websites nowadays.

With a main, authoritative website and, say, ten websites all linking to it organically all the time, the first page, if not the first result is guaranteed. Of course, provided that the main website, as well as the network blogs, are optimized with HQ content targeting low hanging fruits. (Though this technique could succeed with the most competitive niches)

The same concept could be extended: imagine building a network of websites within the same niche, and targeting the same keywords! The potential is huge. Many marketers are leveraging this technique in many ways.

I’m planning to launch my own, and it doesn’t have to be all at once. One website at a time until I build a mini empire around one niche. I think about it as, one, a marketing technique and, two, as an expansion strategy.

You should think about it :)

If you have some thoughts, please share them and leave a comment.

See you.

This is interesting and it answers my questions, but only in part. I have several websites to slightly different topics and I want to create a main website, including all of them. This main website would be the official site of my non-profit which then I want to get sponsored by Google. DO you thin it will work? It is not pointing to a niche, but building a hub.

It might work, but it will need a lot of work and time. Backlinks should be relevant: a backlink from money making website, for example, to a health website may actually be harmful. I don't know exactly what your websites are about, but you may consider a couple of them that are related somehow to your main website, even if some tweaks are made. The more aged the domain names the better.

Thanks for your thoughts. My websites are all about personal and collective growth, consciousness, relationships and wisdom. Also cats fit into the picture of learning and growing relationships....
I will see how I can get everything under one hat! Thanks again.

You're welcome Heidi :)

PBNs are hammered by Google. It is not recommended and many people have lost their entire business by following this strategy. I would remove this post rather than have people follow this advice and have their businesses destroyed. PBNs are very much not in favor any longer (these were hot 2-3 years ago before Google started hammering them).

You made PBNs wound like pure evil, which they're not! They're a "grey" hat tactic, not exactly white not black. It's a link building strategy like many "difficult and time-consuming" other methods. Search engines may put red flags on you if all your backlink come from one place. Diversification is key. And, in the worst case scenario, if one of the network websites might got deindexed, you can always remove the links to get it indexed back. Think about it as high ROI investment, the risk maybe high, but the reward also :)

That said, I'm more interested in the second concept, ie: a network of websites targeting same keywords, no one's going to argue with that!

Well, there are multiple people on this site (myself included) who suffered significant financial loss from having a PBN. At least you can't say I didn't warn you.

Much appreciated Mel. I really appreciate your advice and please keep on doing that. And, for the record, I don't have PBN and don't think about getting it.
