Ranking is completely secondary to building out your business and website. Through activity, you'll find yourself ranking up, but at this point there are no monetary rewards for ranking high or becoming an ambassador. You'd be better simply following the training and concentrating on your site as opposed to seeking out new members' questions to answer.
do members that have existing sites generally keep them plus add siterubix site(s)? and, what is the level of analytics insght available for siterubix in terms of unique visito
Most members that start with a free site, buy a domain and transfer their work to their own domain.
Some member before joining already had sites hosted outside WA. Some continue to host their sites outside WA, but many move their hosting inside WA. There are many advantages to have your site hosted on WA. Just to mention a couple:
1. There is no additional cost for hosting. As a Premium member you can host up to 25 sites.
2. When your site is hosted with WA, you have access to platformas as SiteComment
(https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/content) and SiteFeedback (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/website-feedback).
But you could take advantage of the free sites you also have here at WA. Here is something that might interest you on this respect: Make Money with Your Free Site Rubix Websites
Most who start with siterubix sites tend to upgrade their siterubix site to a paid domain once they go premium. It's an easy one step process so most take full advantage of it :)
As a free member you can have a max of 2 siterubix sites, while as a premium member you can have up to 25 siterubix sites along with 25 paid domains for a total of 50.
Thanks Eric - and in premium with a paid site, I maintain my own site apps for management like SUMO and preferred autoresponders / feed services, correct?
I'm not familiar with SUMO, but as far as using outside autoresponders etc. yes, if you choose to use them you're absolutely free to use whichever you prefer. As far as maintaining the site, it's fully backed up and supported here 24/7 so you can just concentrate on content creation and building out :)

do any members run both a free version and/or a premium membership in tandem for separate and yet combined purposes? Is that possible and/or acceptable?

do you get any conversion credit for members that join just the free version?
You get credits if they complete their profile, but to "cash out", at least 10% of all referrals need to upgrade to premium
Yes, as Eric has just said, you get credits for members that join WA and set up their profile. But there is a condition: A percentage of these free members must go premium so you can get credits for new free members. Does that make sense to you?
I right now don't remember what the percentage is.
I'll search that and come and tell you.
yes - I would appreciate knowing the percentage, and if percentage based on numbers joined and if certain minimum # of numbers joined before percentage metric kicks in.
it makes sense to me to have a mim requirement of converted premium members otherwise no incentive
VitalyG has mentioned the percentage I was refering to. He has explained it correctly: You get the referral but to cash out, you need at least 10% of all referrals to upgrade to premium
You get your commission and a referral credit when your referral goes premium, but you do get credits here and there as they finish creating their user description and profile even if they're still in their free starter account.
