Why Self Confidence is key to your success
Self confidence is something that I’ve struggled with in my life and continue to deal with on a daily basis. But fortunately, I’ve started to take better control of my life.
This started a few years ago when I decided that I wanted to take a different direction in life with my career and my goals. And it wasn’t just about leaving my 9-5 job, long commute and trading hours for dollars to make somebody else rich, but taking control by finding my purpose, making time for it, and going after it.
This is what led me to eventually start taking initiative and reevaluating my goals (or lack of them). I started taking more accountability for myself, my actions, my time spent outside work, my thoughts, and my beliefs.
Of course, nothing changes overnight. You don’t plant a seed one day and see the harvest the next. It takes time. That’s why I feel that this is a continual process for me. Here are some things that I’ve found that have helped me with my self-confidence along the way:
Initiative
instead of pondering or thinking about things, confident people actually get started on things.
Overcoming Fear
There’s no way to avoid this one, whether it’s the fear of failure, of other people’s opinions, or perhaps even the fear of the unknown. To succeed, we need to eventually face our fears and anxieties in order to move forward. "Courage is not the lack of fear. It's acting in spite of it." - Mark Twain.
Asking Questions
Asking questions, especially when others don’t. I believe in asking questions when I need help, but confidence also implies asking for that job or position too.
Getting outside your comfort zone
Confident people not only know their limits, but they stretch themselves too, by testing these limits and what they’re capable of. We’re a lot stronger than we think.
Believing in yourself
If you believe in yourself and your abilities, then this will give you motivation to move forward, by setting goals and getting things done. As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t - you’re right.”
Don’t compare yourself to others
Instead of focusing on those around you, or who may be succeeding, run your own race. Your focus should be on your own goals at your own pace, not to outrun somebody else.
Have a great Friday everyone, and keep moving forward!

Great post, Isaiah. Being someone who lacked self confidence all the years as a teenager and even afterwards, I understand what you're saying. I consider a huge help in this getting out of the comfort zone and overcoming fear. That really helped me a lot.
I have to say that the older I get, the happier with myself I am. At least something good about aging :)
Very well Isaiah seeing the image (who loved me) tells us very well the lack of confidence in our own search for ourselves. Thank you very much!
