What to do if you have writer’s block.

I have been suffering from writer’s block for the past three months. It has not gotten any better. So I am looking for suggestions and help!

I tried asking for help and got some response back in November. Nothing helped. Now it is January.

Yes, that is right. It has been 3 months since I was able to write and publish an article. I need serious help here guys!

I will list suggestions I have gotten from other members in case they might help someone else.

(I have actually tried all but one which I am fulfilling right now!)

  • 1. Write on a different topic. It might help just to get out of your own topic and head. You never know what could come of it!
  • 2. Write For WA. Kind of goes with “Write on a different topic”. Writing a blog for WA can at least get the creative juices flowing. (This is what I am attempting at the moment)
  • 3. Research your topic. This is assumes you have not done research yet OR that maybe you have not done enough research.
  • 4. Check out your competition. Kind of goes with “research your topic”.
  • 5. Change your surroundings. A change of scenery can do wonders for the mind.
  • 6. Try keyword researching. You never know what new ideas this process can unlock
  • 7. Just write anything, It will come to you!
  • 8. Use an Outline

If I think of any more I will edit this page. In the mean time all suggestions and help is appreciated!

I have nothing to add except perhaps to double-down on those efforts!

Jeff

I don't have any more ideas than the ones you've listed.

But I do suspect you are putting so much pressure on yourself that you're focusing on the writers block instead of writing.

You can do this. And you will!!!

That is probably very true! Thank you!

Writers block is difficult to combat. This is when people would recommend outsourcing. I wouldn’t do that if you are new in the business and don’t have money to invest in hiring a quality writer.

Besides, it wouldn’t be in your own writing voice. The process and the steps to outsourcing is not easy. It works if you got a lot of money to spend and can do it efficiently.

The list you listed may be helpful for some people but not everyone can apply those actions.

It’s much easier when you have structure. I suffer from writers block many times. The only time I didn’t when I was in college for both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. It was in a structured environment. I had to do the assignments. If I didn’t, I would get a failing grade.

After all, I had to pay for my education. I had to invest my time four years and two and half years for my Master’s degree. Writing my thesis paper was the toughest one I had to do, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t get the degree or graduate.

Due to the structured nature of being an academic student for many years gave me enough experience to help me combat writer’s block. What helped was going to the writing center, having tutors there to help get started. Or talk to my professors where I am stuck and how to get over the hurdle in my writing process. My professors would sit with me while I type on my Mac laptop. They would encourage me to keep going.

They taught me the best ways just to sit there and brainstorm your writing.

Assume here that you’ve done the research on a product for gifting. Example: “weighted massage heating pad”

It helps if you have a product review template which I use a lot- it structures your writing so much easier.

Step 1: Type up research notes and sources other reviews, for citing a source from a website

Step 2: in your introductory paragraph write a brief description of the product you recommend for people to buy as gifts (if that’s what you are doing ?)

Use a TOC-table of content plugin

Step 3: Brainstorm about the product type as if you talking to your friend about that heat massager how it helps people with muscle soreness

Step 4: write at least three or more pros about the product

Step 5: write the three or more cons

Step 6: who is it’s for, how it’s going to benefit or not benefit price worth it

Step 7: Conclusion

I have a template that gives me structure perhaps that might help you. In WA, We can set up a template and use it over and over for a product review.

If you want it, PM me it also states where you can put your affiliate links to either Amazon or ShareaSale from AWin, or other place that pays you affiliate commission for the weighted messages heating pad.

If you structure this with the writing steps and templates, I promise you, your writers block will become non existent.

All you need is just a structured organized writing template, this would help you guideline your writing. It’s more than just an outline.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! This really helps!

What a good read, thanks Brenda

Wish I knew Tex, I haven't published since the beginning of December :(

I hate going through this! It stinks that someone else is going through this too! Hopefully Someone will have the answer!

You maybe need to go down a new angle in relation to your niche, so that you have a new area to get your teeth into.

I wish I knew what a "new angle" for my niche was or is! My site is a gift site.
