...I love that song but I mean it in a different way.

I recently came out of my semi-retirement because I had an offer to work for an amazing company changing the way things roll in this world. Yes, finances had a large part to do with it but I was so enamored with the opportunity of working for Tesla, I jumped at the chance.

...and then reality set in haha! We work 3/12's and 4/12's alternating each week. The time off is amazing but the shifts are long and hard. Don't get me wrong, I love the schedule but It definitely has taken its toll and some adjustment time. However, even though I have always been somewhat of an entrepreneur and worked for 2 major startups or built my own business, I have always wanted to be apart of something really big, stable and blue collar. More specifically I have always wanted to work on a major assembly line. I think this stems from my affinity for the show "How it Works" but I definitely find that it grounds me and gives me balance.

Create Your Own Identity
The one thing it does not do is establish, identify, or determine who I am as a person. I know that sounds sophomoric and simple, of course, your job does not define you but I see it every day. Folks wrapped up in their positions no matter how influential or not. Assembly line politic, and power stalkers, haha if there is such a thing. I actually get a kick out of watching it all happen in front of me.

I, however, have WA and other enterprises to come home too. Knowing that Tesla, as cool as it may be is simply an ends to a mean. I love the company and job, as menial as it can be sometimes, but it is just another corporation and paycheck when you get right down to it.

My identity comes from being a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. I serve them all and I create purpose in doing so. No matter what occurs in the world out of my influence, it does not affect the world within.

I Walk Around with a Different Perspective
All day I see folks who are unhappy, angry, insulted, and insecure because they allow their work to define who they are and when that job is done, that's it, now what.

However, knowing that this job I do is simply to experience what it is to build something important and create revenue (freedom) for which I can follow my pursuits of value, gives me a unique perspective. It allows me to let the day roll on uncontested. View all personalities with acceptance and let conflicts resolve themselves as they often do (don't get me wrong, I still get pissed sometimes, I am human haha).

What I Do
This is a little weird but we all have our idiosyncrasies right? At work, every time I am uninspired, I remember payday and what it will afford me to build in my life. If there is a conflicting personality, I pretend I am a felon, trying to hide from society and if I do one thing wrong I am gone, so I keep to myself and do my job ( this comes from too many movies haha).

Now I am not a loner or introvert by any means, in fact, if you knew me you would understand that for sure. I am very outgoing and gregarious and I have some nice new friends at my new workplace but I keep my personality in check to avoid unwanted problems from even starting.

Before you know it, it's Wednesday and I have four days off to build my business here in WA and elsewhere and be a dad and grandpa, playing walkie talkies with my Chubba. It makes it all worth it.

Love the One Your With
So be grateful for your work as it provides what it needs to and nothing more. If you are reading this then your ultimate promotion is to run your own business not the next supervisor position. Continue to work hard and be an asset to your company but let go of your expectations and you will be even more amazed at the results.

Can you dig it,
Damo

Hmm, that's the reason why I haven't heard from you for a couple of weeks already. Your family is blessed to have you. More blessings!

Hi Damo

WOW, that Tesla picture made me sit up straight! WOW, that is a lot of solar panels! My goodness! I really was impressed! Any idea how much is on there? I guess what is there is measured in Megawatt, not Kilowatt eh? ;-) It makes the 1000 watt (1 kilowatt) on our RV roof look like nothing! ;-) LOL!

Loved the other picture too. :-)

Well written post Damo!

Peace to you!

Gigawatt - hence the gigafactory haha!

Oh my word, Damo, that is amazing!! According to Uncle Google that would be 35 Gigawatt worth of solar panels! WHEW!

Hubby was very excited to see a Tesla electric vehicle here the other day - imagine - on the furthest corner of the world!

Peace to you!

You as well. We build the home power systems here in Reno, they build the cars in Freemont, Ca. but I want one too.

I can dig it, Damo!

Hey Daamo,
Your post flares up excitement.
Yes, getting the rein held tight for the present paycheck and then investing all that you can with the work that you love is the role of a unique father, uncle, bro and grandfather.

Cheers man!

Hey, right on.

So are you going to stick your tongue out at them and walk Damo?

Haha, no Michael I love it there I plan to be there for a while just to watch it grow. Funny thing is my online business is growing as well so I am in no hurry.

Great pic. Solid advice,
