Have You Been Taught Senseless and Irrational Ideas?

Does society teach us to believe many senseless and irrational Ideas? I think most would answer yes to that! And we so easily adopt them without even really thinking about it. We have become like sheep!

I will also claim that the irrational beliefs we may have are the basis on which our self talk is based! Yikes!! This sounds bad!

Let say that you irrationally believe everything has to be perfect before you can effectively do your work here in Wealthy Affiliate: "I must have quiet, I must have my space neat, I must watch my favorite TV show first before I can go to work changing my life, I must organize my life before I can do this," etc.

We say, "this is awful, I can't work on WA stuff right now! I have to do these other things which are way more important. After all, if I don't watch TV I will not be relaxed enough to focus, or, because there is so much noise going on right now how can I possibly do anything!"

Come on, Admit it!

You are laughing! I know you are. We have all been there! It is the self talk and procrastination stemming from our irrational belief system that we must have things a certain way in order to move forward. How do these things make you feel? Like doing something you know you should be doing, or not?

On the other hand, if you more rationally believed it would be nice to have it quiet while you work and have things just the way you like them, it is hardly catastrophic and you can stand things as they are because there are more important things to do, like designing your future!

How About These Eleven Irrational Beliefs?

1. I must be loved and approved of by every other significant person in my life!

2. I must be thoroughly competent, adequate, and an achiever if I am to be considered worthwhile.

3. There are bad, wicked and evil people out there everywhere and they should be punished for their evilness.

4. It is awful and catastrophic when things are not the way we want them to be!

5. Human happiness is controlled by external events and we have no control over the sadness and turmoil in our lives.

6. If something is a possible danger or problem we should focus on that and keep dwelling on the fact that it may occur.

7. It is easier to avoid than to face life's problems and responsibilities.

8. We should be dependent on others and we need someone stronger than ourselves to rely upon.

9. Our past should determine our future success because we all know that once something bad has happened it should affect our lives forever.

10. We should become very upset over other people's problems and situations.

11. There is a perfect solution to every human problem and it is a catastrophe if that solution is not found!

How do you think these things affect how you feel?

Would you agree that these are irrational beliefs? Maybe not?

Pick one that resonates with you and share your thoughts.

Then, go about your work here within Wealthy Affiliate and be the awesome and successful person you were born to be!

I certainly have irrational beliefs and struggle with those everyday. The biggest one that I have right now is that my writing and content is not good enough and no one will want to read it. It is a dream killer and can prevent one from moving forward. I certainly need to change my mindset if I want to succeed.

I can understand that limiting thought Brian. I gained some assistance from an app called Grammarly that helps to check the way I construct my content. Maybe that would help you too? It certainly gives my content the little polish that it needs.

I have heard of Grammarly, but my thing is just to start writing content. Once I do, I can use the great checker here at WA on its SiteContent platform. My irrational fear is that no one cares what I have to say and I have to get over that if I want to be successful. Thanks for the tip though and using Grammarly in addition to the tools here will definitely help my content in the future.

I use Site Content too. Grammarly still helps me out.

I am sure others are interested in gaming too. If you are passionate about it and speak conversationally, you will be fine. You just have to keep believing that as well.

Thank you, I definitely need to believe that I can do this and that my content is interesting. I do think that since I'm a bit older than I was when I first got into gaming, my passion for it has waned a little bit, but certainly not disappeared. Games today are so much more lifelike and gameplay far more indepth.

Great blog post

Winners never Quit
Quitters never Win

I have been using this mantra for the last fifty years

That's a great Mantra to live by Rich!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing.

In my life I have experienced each one of those. All of them arrived in my life with the ability to allow each one to Define me, control who I become and ULTIMATELY take over my life.

Today I'm embracing"MY HUMANNESS AND CONQUERING EACH ONE OF THESE FEARS."

SO WHY DO MANY OF US GETS STUCK?
WHY DO MANY OF US NOT FINISH?
Because we want the easy Road. We aren't willing to put in the work period or the time studying, but this is the way to show our self approved! What we think about the most we become!

So s so I have to ask myself today what is consuming I thought process today?

Press on! Press forward!
Never stop!
Become your dream!
speak your dream!
Live Your Dream!

Wow - such words of wisdom. In this season of my life as a senior, I wish I had had the courage to become my dream earlier in life. That was yesterday, now I can live my dream, my way! I am on the other side of fear! Blessings to you!

Great to hear Sachi!!

Great post Howard!

Hello Howard,
2 and 7 are my major downfalls

Derek

Hi Derek!

Yes, sometimes it is easier to avoid life's difficulties and responsibilities.

For example, here at WA we know that there are certain things we need to do that make us uncomfortable at first because they are new, so we procrastinate instead of taking action. This is a common thing for we humans!

Achievement always comes from mastering tasks and never through avoiding them, even when difficult or perhaps unpleasant.

Press on, Sir!

Thanks for stopping by!!

I will be pressing on regardless.

Derek

Hi Howard

2 and 3 definitely resonate with me. I love and approve of you Howard! ;) !

Best Wishes
Hazel

Yes Hazel!

It is easy to fall into the trap of equating achievement, adequacy, and competence for us to feel worthwhile. Sure, it is great when we get those results, but to gauge our worth as a person that way all the time when all we are is fallible human beings that make mistakes will mess with our feelings!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing!!

We can spend a life time relearning wrong beliefs. But# yes, overcoming them will lead to success. Good post....thanks.

Thanks for stopping by Debbie.

Have a blessed day!

I have felt these things and now I really don't care if I can succeed I will do it. Thanks for the great info

Thanks for stopping by Phil!

Preaching to the choire :)

those irrational beliefs are all around us. That's why only my boyfriend and I know about this litle endeavour... (and all of you here) but I am not telling anyone.

Reason is simple...if you tell anyobe they all have an opinion or they all know someone who tried and failed (nobody can speak out of their own experience) ....I don't want to know those things...

This time only my opinion counts!

That sounds like a combination of number one and eight.

Yes, sometimes when you share something you are excited about, especially those closest to you, they know your past and are free to share your failures because they may be jealous of your possible success. Not always, but we have had that in our lives.

Agreed, better to avoid those discussions and the drama with those you know will not support you.

Thanks for stopping by! Best wishes!!

#3

Yes, true!

But it has been said that "there is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so." There may be no good or bad people in this world, only those who are thought to be by others. We all are only fallible humans who make errors in judgment.

When people behave in ways that are considered bad, they may do these things for several reasons: they are unintelligent, too ignorant, or too emotionally disturbed to not do so. Some would believe that in these three cases they are not bad and don't deserve to be punished.

Are evil people everywhere? I believe that is not true! I see goodness every day. I only see bad when I turn on the news, which I avoid. Look here inside WA! What a shining example of goodness!

Thank God for that!!

Well said. A very good read.

Thanks

Thank you, Sir!
