Being an affiliate of Amazon? I am having a hard time with that decision.

I am way past the lesson in the course where it said "Become an affiliate of Amazon". Been hesitating for ages what I should do with that assignment.

Maybe I am going to regret it, but just now I have applied.

Why the doubts? I had 2 reasons, an altruistic one and a selfisch one.

  1. The first reason is that I am not too happy with the way they treat their employees. Not that I experienced that in person, but I read a lot about in the newspapers. And yes, I know it has 2 sides. There will be a lot of people that are glad to even have a job. And not all the newspaper stories are objective.
Also, it's not just the fault of Amazon solely. We as consumers 'demand' goods to be delivered quicker and quicker. Madness.
  2. The selfisch reason is that for someone in Europe it's complicated to make sure people use your affiliate link. I am in Spain, but write in English. So my public will more often than not be outside of Spain. A Spanish affiliate link is lost as soon as people chose their local Amazon store.
I have been an affiliate years ago and it was a horror. It seems they have addressed the issue nowadays and offer a one-link solution. No idea if that will work. Anyone has experience with this?

So, a bit reluctant, but I signed up. One of the reasons being that I buy at Amazon myself as well (who says people are consistent in their behavior) :)

What are your thoughts? Am I foolish?

Hannie

Totally agree with you Hannie. BUT and it's a big but, They have everything you need under 1 roof. OK commissions are low and as Kyle says there are many other programs out there that pay better but some won't except, unless you have enough traffic to sink a battleship and some that only have rubbish.
So personally on a need to survive basis I signed up. You do get quite good traffic to Amazon through social media!
And of course the old saying Better The Devil etc.
I am trying to sign up for Wish also and if I succeed will let everyone know.
Good luck
Paul

Thanks Paul.
Better the devil? I am Dutch yet curious how the saying goes :)

Better the devil you know than the 1 you don't

Hannie, with the 1 link sign up to .com 1st and then open in a few countries. You could do Holland; France and Germany etc and link them all

LOL that's a nice one. :)

Ah, I haven't seen Holland yet in between all the countries. Japan, yes, but I can't read it :D
Thanks, Paul!

In regards to one-link, I have been with them for awhile (changing over slowly). According to analytics my posts are doing well in all the link countries, so I'm pretty sure people have bought. In my account on Amazon, I have linked accounts, yet still not showing. I've called amazon a few times and they said they do not know what the issues is and keep blowing me off.

Hmmm.
Why isn’t there a amazon.eu
Would make things easier 😄
Thanks Jag

Great post, I can relate to the first one, because my wifesson, has just been given his 2nd written warning, following the death of a close relative, which meant he obviously being in shock failed to turn up to work, so they gave him a written warning, then fired him

They treat their employees vary badly, I have seen some of the video evidence and it is awful

Secondly I have just terminated my own account, because it doesn't fit in with what I am writing about. So no your not being foolish

Thanks for replying Dave. You make me reconsider again!! Oh well, I can always terminate, can't I?

Yes absolutely
