Merry Christmas from the Three Wise Joeys

For all of you, my friends, a lovely Australian Christmas scene to bring you happiness for the New Year.

Image from The Kangaroo Sanctuary website.

These little critters are happily being reared and then set free around Alice Springs. A wonderful, very tall man, nicknamed Brolga (the Brolga is an Australian Crane) has dedicated his life to rescuing orphaned kangaroos and rehabilitating them so they can go back to their natural world.

Brolga was 'discovered' by the UK's BBC and several TV series have been filmed and watched by many. You might have seen a recent clip on a man rescuing his dog from a 'Boomer'. Well have a look at Brolga and Roger in their frequent bouts on https://kangaroosanctuary.com/.

In addition to the series, the story of the creation of the sanctuary is told in the book Kangaroo Dundee. This is a great and enjoyable read and let's you into the world of someone who is committed to improving the life of other creatures. Part of the All Creatures Great and Small story.

I wish all of us a fulfilling and wonderful Christmas and an entertaining New Years Eve. By the way we are lucky if we manage to stay up to 10:00 pm.

Now back for a nap after racing around yesterday, cutting the Christmas Tree and decorating it. The we finished off the gift hampers full of homemade chilli relish, lemon curd, speculars and panforte along with a bottle of bubbly and some chocolate for friends.

Then off to Christmas Eve nibbles and drinks, with more friends, accompanied by my excellent (so they say) homemade Mexican dip.

This morning, Christmas day, was breakfast with even more friends (note there really isn't that many friends as some repeats and small numbers were at each place).

After all this another nap and now a message to all of you.

Sweet kangaroos! And sweet mr Brolga for helping them.
Merry Xmas, Helen.

And to you Tezsie. We passed Christmas Day and am now relaxing on Boxing Day. Thank goodness.

It's about time for our wallabies to turn up with full pouches. It's a scream watching the joeys turning in the pouches as it looks like a boxing match inside the punching bag!

Possums now have a baby on their backs. So cute.

Awesome! I remember seeing some of those animals when visiting Oz, and Koala´s. All so lovely and cute.

Merry Christmas Helen.

Deb, as I think you are in the US have a lovely Christmas Day. It's Boxing day here and I am relaxing.

I enjoyed this post. Merry Christmas!

James, I thought this was a lovely photo. Brolga has saved animals all his life and travelled over northern Australia doing so.

He finally settled in Alice Springs. It's hot and dry but when it does rain the local yacht race can't go ahead. It's set up for a dried up river bed and water cancels the race!

Thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas to you too!

A fun share,
Sami

Thanks for something different, Helen. Merry Christmas! :)

Thank you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thanks, Merry Christmas, Hellen, I help the animals by being a veggie

Well Loes, I don't eat roos or other natives! Other animals yes but if no one ate them a huge percentage would never have existed. My concern is how they are treated during their life. Most of the meat we eat comes from local farms where they wander around fields with no stress.

In fact there are two highland cows down the hill from us whose whole purpose in life is to eat and grow fat and when that is over lay down for the eternal sleep.

I know some animals are treated well, but when every single being only eat animals who were treated well, and with the amount of the western world is used to, there are no grains left on earth for human beings.

Hey Helen

Its always nice to see about people helping animals. Love this post. Have a Merry Christmas and a Fantastic New year.

Roopesh, if you can get a hold of the TV series it is well worth watching. And the great thing is how many volunteers are involved in helping out.

The joeys are extremely vulnerable and all kangaroos go into shock quite quickly. So Brolga's success rate really speaks for this caring man.

A poppin and a hoppin from the pouch to the outback. G'day Helen. Merry Christmas and happy new year!

In spite of rotten weather up to now we are having beautiful Christmas weather too! Hope you are not tool cold!

Most of these little ones are rescued from pouches of mamas hit by traffic. They do hop and pop very quickly and this tragedy isn't uncommon. We have lots around our home and are fortunately way away from traffic.

They are fortunate to have miles of outback but not so fortunate in the scores of wildfires you have there in your summer!

Also floods! What a mix.

I was reading about the amazing Lake Eyre you have in the middle of the country in northern South Australia. Seasonal flooding shallow in an area the size of US Texas and New Mexico combined!

And every year that there is water in it the pelicans flock to it in huge numbers for nesting. Now that is quite a site as are all the wildflowers that bloom at that site.
