Do you ever get confused about what you should eat. Does it appear that no-one really has the answer.

Well in this case appearances aren't deceptive. This little clip says it all.

And in summary think about the avocado. Not that long ago it was taboo. Now it is a wonder fruit.

My wife eating avocado every day

I only eat stuff that is in season. Over in Australia we have enough spread of seasons to get a good long period of fruit and vegies. Unfortunately avos do have a definite season but I certainly eat my fill when they are around.

thanks for this post

Thanks Phil.

I think that most people know what foods they should be eating more of and which they should be eating less of. The simple fact is that there isn't one diet plan or food that is right for everyone. We have different goals and different nutritional needs.

I've found what has worked for me and it's Dr. Joel Fuhrman's "Eat to Live" program, I've been eating this way for the last five years and it works for me. Find out what works for you and don't follow every new eating trend or warning that comes along.

Your body will tell you what's working and what's not. If you're sick most of the time and in pain, then there's a good chance that what you're doing is not working. Start with, what have you been eating.

Too true Phil. Now if only I could stand exercise!

Good Morning Helen, nice to see you again.

I fully agree with this great video up till the last bit. I have skipped bread/grains now for nearly 2 years and feel great. I bake my own Gluten Free bread which is delicious. An Avocado a day keeps the doctor away.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

I am fortunate as I don't react to anything. Bring on the gluten.

Good afternoon Helen,

It is not that I am allergic to anything. Over the years when learning something new I would introduce it into my life.I
I went from white bread to full grain.
From yogurt to soy yogurt and milk.
Then from butter to olive oil.

Now it is no more grains so Gluten Free.
No more soy but Coconut milk and oil.
Gone back to natural yogurt and Kefir
Still olive oil and again some butter.

Hardly any sugar and no sweeteners, only the right type of Stevia.

Have a nice weekend, Taetske

I see it this way. If I eat something and it puts a smile on my face, IT IS HEALTHY:))) Problem solved.

YES Rika.

That's how boom bust ideas enhance marketing ideas Helen. LOL

Not to me Mike. This type of marketing turns me right off!

Yes, eggs were bad, then the whites were ok but not the yolks...then the whole egg is good!

Butter was bad and margarine was the thing, now margarine is found to be bad and real butter is better!

Fat is bad, fat is good.
Etc. etc. etc.

Basically, to me it seems all the bad things are usually tampered with. Red meat is not so bad if it is natural. The problems come with added hormones and steroids and drugs added, and unnatural diets etc.

Fish is healthy if it is wild and fresh, if it was farmed in a tank of polluted water it is bad.

Butter is fine if it comes from natural, free range cows that eat plants like a cow is supposed to eat!

If things are natural and in the natural state they are generally ok!

Corn and wheat can be argued to be very bad but the worst problems come not from the grains themselves but the GMO versions of them.

Jessica, you have it spot on. Leave ma nature alone and things balance out. Unfortunately there is always someone/s who think they can do things better.

We are fortunate in Tasmania as many things are taboo including GMO crops. The rest of Australia is trying to get us to drop these laws but we are all fighting that.

We have a great range of free range products and many farmers markets where fresh produce is available.

As for margarine, try working near a margarine factory. The smell is appalling. Well it use to be when I worked in that suburb. Now-a-days they can probably mask the smell. BUT always remember; margarine is black. Stuff is added to give it it's colour!

We don't tend to have feed lots (thank goodness) and our local butcher grazes his own cattle and sheep. The abattoir is adjacent to his paddocks so the cattle don't even need trucking. They just have a nice peaceful walk over and then the process proceeds calmly.

All the other meat he sells comes from free range, no drugs added etc farms. And guess what, his meat is wonderful.

There is nothing wrong with grains au natural. You know when we grew up no one had a gluten intolerance nor peanut allergy. We are lucky as a Aussie fellow (with lots of money) is trying to get Australian products out there. He supplies peanut butter sourced from Queensland peanuts. That's it: no additives. When floods occur up there no peanut butter. He doesn't substitute peanuts from elsewhere.

All we can do is keep on trucking and buy the best for ourselves and grow as much as possible.

I agree completely! I grew up with organic gardens...I miss it!

Do it yourself with above ground gardening. Save your own seeds.

I don't have much room now that we moved. We have a 4-plex on a tiny city lot. We hope to be able to move in a year or two though. I love going to farmer's markets though and buying local organic produce.
