ANZAC DAY Let's Get it Right!
Over here down under, in Australia, yesterday was ANZAC Day.
ANZAC Day itself was (per Wikipedia) "originally to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli against the Ottoman Empire during World War I." The armed forces people now honoured has expanded to include all ANZACs killed in war since then.
In typical Australian fashion, the 'emblem' of ANZAC day is the playing of Two Up. A gambling game played by many of the ANZACs on the WW 1 fields. Two Up is generally illegal except for ANZAC Day!
Yes we do have Remembrance Day when the Armistice was signed to end WW 1, A new tradition for ANZAC Day that is gaining popularity is the wearing of poppies; an act that is flowing over from Remembrance Day.
Shaun Buckney, an Aussie ex-service man from Brisbane (and son of an Aussie ex-service man) finally got a bit fed up with the incorrect ANZAC Day information in the media and had a good think about this misinformation. And I am sure other nations have this problem with their special day.
I wanted to put his thoughts here and have done so via an image. It might be a bit small however you can read it and all his thoughts on the following link.

Yes they did but not during world war 1. In fact they worked with the 'good guys' against the Germans and Austrians.
The main sufferer during this time was China. Japan tried to annex it.
The second world war is another story.
Unfortunately many nations do forget. And that is why the mistake of war is constantly repeated. Someday maybe all will remember.

I remember watching the movie Gallipoli many years ago, so this a great bit of additional information.
Thanks Allan. Every once in a while I get to vent my thoughts on the public media. A friend of mine used to work in the club where all media persons met after work. They told her 'never let the facts ruin a good story'.
And although the internet is great, there is so many bits of misinformation. And with each repetition the amount grows.
Hopefully others are cynical about the media too.
