Zombie Slaves and Secondary Audiences

Okay so you are probably wondering why this is called

'Zombie Slaves and secondary audiences'....

Well I was accused of being a Zombie Slave by another WA member so I thought I would show you what this Zombie Slave has been learning about today....

Secondary Audiences

I hadn't appreciated that there was a secondary audience involved in my online business. We hear all about out target audience - primary audience - niche audience.. whatever you want to call it. They are the people we are talking to in all our posts, blogs, articles... really anything on our websites is for the target audience...

But have you thought about those that are not in your target audience that still pick up on what you are putting out? An example of a secondary audience...

Scenario.. Dr Spock is a consultant fetal medicine specialist and he has an appropriate website where newly pregnant women and partners can go to book a scan. The website is styled and blogs are written for this group of patients. He also uses google adwords to target that demographic. But his secondary audience would be the to-be-grandmas, to-be-aunties who will also go to the site to book a scan as a gift. Scans are not cheap!

Scenario.. Its running up to Christmas and those adverts are on the TV for all sorts of great toys... the ads are intended to appeal to kids, the primary audience.. great lego sets and barbie dolls...you can imagine what comes next.. they tell their parents..the secondary audience who may either see the advert as well or go onto purchase. So whilst the two audiences are different, the art of the advert is to appeal to both child and parent as the parent will be doing the purchase.

So when writing content for a website it is important to recognise that you will have a secondary audience, you need to recognise who they are and think of ways to engage with them too to promote your product or service.

So really a secondary audience is a bonus !
