Had A Lightbulb Idea. But It Blew Up!

Ive been doing some more research into my target audience... trying to understsnd them better, getting more in tune with the sort of articles I should be writing to appeal to them.
What they like to do for fun, in their off time... hobbies, passions, interests....

But that's where my lightbulb blew up.... I don't seem to be able to make the connection between the information I have found out and how to turn it into articles they would read with their hobbies in mind that would lead them to WA.

Sure Im writing about how to do the various things that one would when setting up a website but it doesn't seem to be 'target audience' orientated.

For example... let'd say my target audience was a New York taxi driver, who lives in New Jersey with his wife, two dogs and has three grown up sons and two grandkids. He's getting tired of driving taxis all day and doesn't make enough, wants to earn some more money before its too late. He loves dogs, trains, watching football and fishing.....

How would you target those hobbies into him wanting to set up a website here, or am I overthinking this? Does he think... right Im going to go online and see what I can do to make more money? Maybe he thinks of selling on ebay and doesn't think about what skills he has.....

But then maybe he does read one of the articles Ive already written about thinking about his hobbies and other skills outside driving but is that good enough? Am I targetting my audience well enough ?

Or should I be delving more into their interests and writing articles about how they specifically ccould make a website and busines out of fishing or trains?

I don't want to go sailing by only treading water when I should be diving deeper?

Hi Helen, just checked hobbies in general on Jaaxy, it is huge. I looked at hobbies fishing but it did not come up too well with Jaaxy however hobbies trains seems to have a great spot.

Best wishes,

Michael

Try not to be too narrow in your target audience. I would have thought your taxi driver could have a website dealing with dogs, football or fishing. All three of these have a large audience.

Derek

But would I target those specific interests in my articles about how he would put a website together?

Im thinking, with the other comments, that I shouldn't be targeting their niche ideas, but more the things they will find tough.
Is that your thought?

No Helen but you can point out to them that because of their interests they may have a lot more knowledge than they realize.

Im understanding... Ive been doing it right so far, was just that sudden lightbulb moment that I panicked and thought ... oh have I missed the point of the target audience idea but I suppose with their interests etc in mind it gives me insight into what issues they might have in starting their own websites.

Hi Helen. Don't get to bogged down with your target audience. Just like a niche, you don't want it to be to narrow. Jim

Hi Jim !

This was at the back of my mind, that if I followed one or two of the interests/hobbies, that I would bypass the real reason Im doing what Im doing and get too niche....

Thankyou !

If the idea blew up then its just as well. You can be creative with a story telling rather than a target audience. Story telling actually works, thats usually the hook. Then you proceed to explain how it helped the hobbyist learn how to blog and then the link to your affiliate site for WA. Just my two cents.

Thanks Brenda, this is sort of what i have been doing, but I really wanted to make sure that was the level of it... I have a habit of sailing straight past an important feature, so wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing.

You're doing the right thing. Don't over simply the article, that makes it worse as you know that. Keep it simple and to the point, with consistency. You should breeze through just fine.

Focus on the niches rather than target audience, the target audience is in your keywords. I like to use Portent’s Content Ideas Generator for article topics. Check that one out if you haven't already.
