I'm trying to get a link set up on one of my posts. They told me to end the code with "your own internal tracking ID." What is this? How do I get one? Where do I find it?
That either means to add your affiliate number to the end of the link or to add an identifier for your own records so you can track the clicks that come through that link.
If your affiliate number is already in the link, then assume that they mean you can add a tracking number or phrase for your own records.

Someone recommended that I add one of those Google Maps thumbnails to my posts to make the tourist locations on my site easier to locate. How can i do that?

How simple should this be? Could I, say, have an interactive map of the country that has "clickable" states that can show the sites I have previewed in that state? Or should I
Hi, Kelli!
My first thought is that an interactive map will be challenging to create. I prefer simplicity. However, I also think we should challenge ourselves to create the vision we imagine and an interactive map would be very cool for the visitors to your website.
What is your threshold for frustration and how committed are you to making the interactive map a reality?
You can probably purchase a WordPress theme with an interactive map, but I'm not sure where you would find it. It would be worth asking the WA community for suggestions. Or, searching for websites with interactive maps and noting what theme it has. (There is a website called "What Theme is This" or something along those lines, that can tell you the theme on most sites).
If pursuing an interactive map would frustrate you to the point of abandoning your online business, I'd say pass on it for now and focus on the training. If you can handle the frustration of a large project and are energized by the challenge, I'd say go for it.
Maybe it would be worth committing a day or two to researching premium WordPress themes that have ready-made interactive maps. It might be easier than I imagine, and then again, it might not be.
I suggest you search for ready-made themes with interactive maps. Get a feel for how complicated it might be to create the website you imagine. If it feels daunting, continue with the training and build a less complicated website for now. When you're more confident, revisit the interactive map.
If on the other hand, you find that an interactive map is do-able. Go for it.
I hope this helps,
Gary
Thank you, Gary. It was an idea at this point, maybe something I'll think about later down the road. I'm pretty good with frustration, mostly because I live alone and can vent and then get on with it rather have to watch what I'm doing/saying for the sake of others. It makes frustration easier to power through, lol. But, yeah, maybe I'll focus on simple to start.
Hi, Kelli!
I wish I would have looked for this earlier, but I just found an interactive map plug-in for wordpress. Its called "Interactive Map of US Regions."
You can find if when you search for plug-ins in the backend of your wordpress website. Looks like there is a free version and a paid version. This might be much easier than I first thought.
Here's what the plug-in says about itself:
"This plugin allows you to embed a colorful Interactive map of USA into your WordPress powered site by a few clicks!
Whenever you need to give your visitors a simple yet effective way to navigate through regional sections of your site, or if you want to provide some geography-related information to your visitors, Fla-shop.com interactive HTML5 map plugin is a one-stop solution. The plugin allows you to display a detailed map by simply adding a special tag into the main content of a page or a post. Thanks to visual editing of map's properties and effortless installation, the map can be deployed in merely few minutes."
It might be worth playing around with.
Let me know what you think.
All the best,
Gary
Oh my gosh, thank you! I'll take a look at it. I think while I'm hashing out that niche, though, I'm going to to choose another to start with so I know what I'm doing. That way, I can take a little more time on the niche that needs the map and get it just right.
Thank you so much for finding that map. I'm going to go check it out.
Creating website nowadays are simple. I am still 35 days.into WA and my websites are running fine. I started from zero.
