Pay Per Click With Bing - How Did I Do?

I am up to Level 6 Bootcamp training and we have entered the world of Pay Per Click Advertising. This is a brief overview of my experience of pay per click with Bing.

First up ohh my this is truly tooooo exciting! I tell you it's nail-biting and exhilarating all at the same time.

Many of you have asked me how it's going and asking what sort of results am I getting and for what sort of dollar outlay. Now that I have finished the first 6-day campaign I am happy to share my results and what I have learnt from a newbie's perspective.

I can't at this stage say if this is good or bad, or if I have done it right or completely wrong. This is just a recount of my experience so far.

Just The Facts

This is a campaign for my Bootcamp site promoting WA. Following Kyle's training, my campaign was built from the ground up trying to make everything relevant and specifically focusing on portraying WA and "making money online" as simple, proven and free.

I chose high traffic keywords and built a landing page specifically for this campaign.

The Results

Below are my WA Stats for the 6 days of the campaign starting Wed 13th and finishing yesterday Mon 18th Feb.

To put this in perspective the site is 8 months old with 62 posts and 20 pages.

You can see a pretty normal day on Tues 12th - 2 unique clicks and no referrals. For the last 8 months, day in and day out this has pretty much been the norm.

At the start of the campaign I had a grand total of 9 referrals, 3 of whom had filled in their profiles and none that had gone Premium.

The Details

The total campaign cost $109.16. $100 of that was suppose to be a voucher from Bing, but that strangely cut out at $80.80, which I then topped up with the extra $28.26.

Wed 13th: I started the campaign and kicked it off at about 4pm so those first day stats are for about 8 hours.

Sat 16th: The dramatic drop in clicks and referrals was because I remembered that some countries are excluded from signing up for free to WA. My landing page and advert promoted that you can sign up for free so it seemed pointless to include those countries who wouldn't be able to. So I excluded them from the campaign.

You can see from the figures how much of a negative impact that had on clicks and therefore referrals. I rode it out for 24 hours and then added those countries back in as obviously they were able to sign up (I don't know why or how but that's what the data shows).

The Bottom Line

After crunching the numbers this is what really happened:

Number of impressions per click: 25

Number of clicks per referral: 10

Cost per referral: $1.21

Actual cost per referral to me (taking into account the Bing voucher): 31c

Was It Successful ... Was It Worth The Money?

I don't know!

This is where my patience must now come into play as I wait it out and see if any of my new found friends love WA as much as I do and upgrade to Premium.

If they do not then I have 22 referral credits only!

It has sure been one heck of a fun ride watching those daily referrals climb and actually having tasks to do to welcome my referrals and offer my support.

The downside is I have now stopped the campaign to see what happens and whether I am on the right track and if this can be scaleable - the thrill of the chase is gone.

Be aware other newbie PPC users this is addictive! I so want to start spending money again just to see those numbers climb! It is taking all my willpower not to jump back into Bing and add another $20 - $30 just for today!

But I may be barking up the wrong tree so caution is required to see how this all pans out before I continue to throw money at it.

So there you go a newbie's perspective of their first foray into PPC.

As always if you have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge and of course I'd love for those more experienced to share their thoughts.

If you can make any suggestions on things to consider before or during a PPC campaign, perhaps whether these are good results or bad results I'd love to hear because honestly I have no idea if these results are normal or not.

Sounds exciting. Great to try out with the Bing credit. I hope a lot go premium for you.

It definitely took a lot of the pressure away Mickey that's for sure. But I gotta say I'm hooked (well if anything comes of my referrals I will be).

Thanks

Interesting Heidi! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for having a read, there's always something new to learn here at WA

Great news congratulations

Thank you, it was a very interesting trial

Exciting times for sure! Keep us posted as I'd love to see how this pans out for you.

Wow Heidi I feel excited with you. Keep it binging along and you will soon be bringing in the bikkies

Heidi, you made it sound fun. Especially since you did not have that much of your own money tied up this time around.

I enjoy having you test the waters on our part - where zero of my money is involved. That way I can save my money for horse, chicken and pig feed. Now, if it works awesome for you, I might start thinking of the saddles that I could buy if I try it. lol

I'll be hoping that one or more of your referrals converts.

Good job regardless. If you do not try, you will never know.

I've got a brand new educated Warmblood in my sights, bring in those referrals lol.

It was really exciting, especially waiting what seems like an eternity for only a handful of referrals. I know it isn't an eternity and there is bucket loads more work to be done but it was fun to try.

Sounds like you've got an awesome horse picked out!

Last couple of nights as I was doing "research," I came across some highly successful female bloggers. Like making over $30,000 per month just on affiliate marketing part of income. Even more on other other things.

This year, the most successful lady decided to stop sharing her monthly income reports now that she has hit a $1.5 million per year. She does not think that most people will realistically be able to earn that much, so she doesn't want to discourage them. lol

She works off of a yatch now.... Think of the stable that we could buy....

WA "methods" are pretty much the same as what she is teaching also. No secrets. Just hard work, consistency and persistence.

Hi Heidi,

These are awesome results. We have just done a similar trial and are just about to turn ours off temporarily tomorrow ironically enough!

We have spent £151 for 53 referrals so a lot more expensive than yours. Time will now tell if they decide to upgrade. We have 22 referral credits so far from it.

Would love to see an update once the 7 days have passed to see the upgrade levels.

Again, brilliant job

Jon and Debbie

Thanks for your comment Jon & Debbie, and thank you for sharing your results. I think the more we share the more knowledge we all gain.

I hope you see some Premium upgrades too, be great if you could let us know how you go. I will update this blog as time progresses :)

Hi Heidi, Bing works and fine-tuning your campaign is where the results would come. Your quality score has to be high and the keywords have to be relevant with your ads.

if I'm not mistaken, with the super Affiliate training, Kyle will be touching on that on month 10. He is going to be focusing on product reviews on month 9 and then dives into some PPC. Keep that in mind. I am using Bing and it is working for me sometimes. Hope that helps and thank you for sharing.

I'm not into Super Affiliate training yet, but as soon as I finish Bootcamp that's my next stop.

I think the keywords, ad and landing page were all relevant. I could have perhaps targetted more narrowly, and I have a plan for a further campaign along those lines.

Glad to hear you are having some success with Bing. At this point even one referral going Premium would make my year :)

I'm not there yet.... I'm not sure if I'm ready to pay per click... I'm curious as to how many WA members actually pay to get their traffic and how profitable it is?
I'll be following your blog here to see if anyone posts their results.

I will update this blog when/if anything further happens from this campaign but I'd love to hear what others with more experience are doing also.

Hey, Eliz, how are you? You are on good hands here Liz. Heidi and others are doing very well.

Telma

Interesting post, I am only on level 3 of the OEC so a while to go until I am on this topic, however an interesting article all the same. Best of luck with those referrals and thanks for sharing.

Best wishes

Craig

Thanks Craig, something for you to look forward too. It's a lot of fun ... but will be more fun if there is actual money to be made LOL.

Thanks for your comment.
