Do You Have A DMO?

A WHAT!!

Well that was my reaction when I first saw the question from my mentor!

So as not to look like a doofus I quickly Googled and to save you the hassle of doing so it stands for Daily Method of Operation.

Clear as mud?

Yeah it wasn’t getting any clearer for me either but hang in there cause while it’s not rocket science, I believe it is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL to your success.

Basically your DMO is a list of the tasks you have identified that you need to do every day to move your business forward.

These are the revenue-generating tasks or the absolutely not - negotiables that must be done every day.

I had a loose idea, and a bit of a rubbery routine, but I had never sat down and seriously identified what income-generating activities I needed to do each and every day to reach my goals.

I was just winging it and doing what took my fancy each day
 but no longer.

I now have a formal DMO and have even allocated times for my tasks, spread out throughout the day. Because I also still work a 9-5 job, I need to know not just what to do but block out time to do it, this saves me wasting precious time trying to prioritise tasks when I could be/should be working on my business.

You might not go that far, but as long as you have a list of tasks you're good to go.

Have you got a DMO?

Do you consider having one essential to moving your business forward?

I have a DMO. I write down my goals for the weeks (that's what I call it), and divide them up day by day. I always do them, and I rarely defer them to the next day. Today, though, I didn't finish what I planned to do. I did not write an article. I checked my list of ideas for articles and I still did not want to write, I came up with nothing ... but it has more to do with the fact that my neighbor's lot has turned into a construction site and I have been putting up with the constant noise for two months and a half now, and it is getting to me. I need to find a way to live with this until those guys are done with that construction ...

I do have a DMO of sorts Heidi, but I call it a schedule. Never knew there was an alphabet soup for it. Being retired, it's easy for me to wander. Example: Starting to do research for an article, I'll find something that piques my interest, and boom, down the rabbit hole I go. Using my schedule keeps me on track and saves me a lot of time (that word again). Staying out of the rabbit hole also has the advantage of keeping my mind focused on the task at hand.

Greg

They are prolific and deep those rabbit holes Greg, I have been in many.

Great post Heidi, I do not have a DMO but can see why it could be beneficial and plan to start utilizing one. If a person holds themselves accountable for the list they create and completes all the tasks daily the chances for success are greater.
Thanks for the post,
Tyler

Absolutely but not just any list ... money making tasks must come first, those tasks that move your business forward to profitability.

I have a 'to do' list, Yes. That 'to do' list however doesn't always get done, it often has other items added to it.
I'm bad in that I do my favourite tasks on the list first just so I can be seen to tick things off...
I too work full time so its not always easy to stick to a routine but I agree that having a method in the madness is essential...
Top of my List
Prioritise.

Best Wishes with your DMO
Louise

I really identify with what you just said, doing the things on the list that we enjoy.
I also have madness in my method...
I blame the not so favourite tasks for that... They should make more of an effort to be enjoyable then we would pay them more attention... 😁

Have A Great Day.
Gaz

You Numpty...
Yes, they really should be more likeable, either that or just get on with things themselves.
You too have a great day
Louise

I am also working full time still Louise, so I feel your pain. I have found having a short concise list of things that must get done really helps me not waste time on those things that don't actually matter.

Time is short for us, we need to make the most of it.

Heidi LOL as I get older I find that it really helps me to have a "DMO". The nice part about it is no matter how small the task is, when you check it off it is a positive that could be that little extra you need to keep going.

Yep I love being able to cross those tasks off, I get up at 4.30am and by the time I get to work I have most of my list finished, it's a great feeling to know you worked on moving your business forward before the day gets in the way.
