Can anyone recommend the best stock photo subscription with a decent price? My niche is homeschooling so I need something that is going to have a variety of pictures that would

Hey Heidi,

I use DepositPhotos... I like it for my dive site.

I was looking at this one.

Nice... what do you think of the DepositPhotos so far?

I love using Adobe Stock.

I use Big Stock https://www.bigstockphoto.com, great thing is you have the option of a subscription or just purchase credits to download images ($35 for 10 images)

I went in and did a search and there are over 96,000 images (646 pages) for homeschooling

I use Stencil, which is a paid service. It is a good graphic design service that enables me to make great graphics with stock images.

I use Unsplash but I also have a subscription to stockunlimited. I think the subscription is $39/year, so I find that to be affordable.

I just looked and typed in "school" and there are 42 pages of images. Not sure if they are what you are looking for, but might be worth a try.

Hope that helps.

That is very affordable. Is there a limit to the number of images you can download? I know it's called "unlimited" but that may not be for downloads.

You are correct, it's unlimited. They have a variety of images, vectors, etc, some of them are cheesy, but I do find many that I can use.

I am not sure about editing and using the images with a logo. You can contact stockunlimited customer service and see. I like the fact that you can contact them.

I do use a lot of the free ones but if I wanted to sell some of my own products with images in them or create a logo, I was thinking it would be best to actually have a subscription of images I'm allowed to do that with. It seems that's even tricky because there are limits on those as well. For instance, in Canva, the images that say free aren't free for commercial use. You have to pay $1 for one time use, $10 for so many, and then $100 for the multi-use license.

I guess my question is whether I'm able to use the images on the sites that are free like Unsplash and Pixabay for that purpose?

My main use would be images on blog posts and a logo. Then secondarily it would be for products I would create down the road.

Just had a thought.
Would the images in the attached pic be what you are looking for?

No probably more individual images of things relating to my posts. It would be a wide variety depending on what I write about. For example, if I write about learning styles, I may want images of something representing those. Or maybe the science careers a student may be interested in.

Ok, I will take a looksee for science careers and learning styles.

I published a list some time ago.
Lots of members refer to it Enjoy
Robert

Thanks!

No probs and did you look at the pic in my second reply?

I did not see that until I just ready your response. I will check that out. Thanks!

Pixels, Wix, there are images on the Gutenberg version as well as many others, but these come to mind right away. Hope this helps out a bit.

Xav

I use two free sites - Unsplash.com and Pexels.com

It's worth a shot!

For anyone using the Ashe theme (or any theme with this problem) how do I get my header to show up correctly on mobile? I have spent an entire day creating a header/logo I love

You must size the original image for mobile, and let it be 'blown up' for the desktop - this can result in pixelization, however. The reason your custom image doesn't display is that it is too large to render in the space allowed for mobile and the theme isn't dynamically resizing the image for you.

Thank you! Do you have a specific size that you would recommend for mobile?

No, unfortunately, I don't. I'm not sure what the screen resolution is, I just know how to fix it... but I'm a bit outdated on the sizes.

Ok- thanks!

When I made the image smaller and published, it made 4 of my header images to fill up the space instead of stretching it.

Through more research, I have found out that you can put a header image on my theme or a logo under site identity. I was able to change the size of the image in site identity and it's still large on my pc and while I can see the whole logo now on my phone, it is very small and no matter what size i change it to, it stays small and is unreadable.

In a training Jay did, he mentioned several steps for SEO. He said you need an internal link, an external link, and an option was embedding a video. If I don't have an external

an external link is to a website other than your own. That is any website including YouTube Wikipedia and any other site Outside of your own domain. External links benefit your SEO because it demonstrates to Google that you haven't created your site just to earn money. You are prepared to send someone outside of your site. Of course, this is a double edged sword as they may remain outside of your site. EveryPost should have one external link but make sure that they open up in a new tab so that people don't get lost and can't return to your site

Thank you! You are right about the fear of sending someone away from your site.

By the training of Jay, I would say that an external link is not a video on Youtube, nor an affiliate link.

It is not too difficult to create an external link, however. Just find some difficult word within your text for example. Let's see, I could write about certain illnesses in cats and then I link the difficult term to a Wikipedia page or a PetMD page on that certain term.
That's all it takes really, linking something that relates.

Internal is within your site. Video is another thing and can help your content, but most of it all it helps your visitor to stick around longer.

Steven

Thank you! I like the idea of just sending them to a page for a term.

I agree with Steven here. Good question though, seems like you got a lot of great answers here, and since you already check the open in new tab, you should be good to go:)

Thanks Lev!

I had this question as well Heidi. I have the Yoast plugin, and it was flagging my post for not having any external (or internal, I can't remember) links.

Does an external link take you to someone else's site and an internal link to another page within your own site?

Yes, that's correct. What does the Yoast plugin do?

To be honest, I'm not not 100% sure. It basically scans your posts for how readable and how well optimized they are, and gives you feedback. It has been helpful, but still a little confusing.

There's a lot that's still a little confusing. Lol

Yes, indeed.

Hey Heidi,

Yes, embedding a YouTube video (for example) would count as an external link.

Think of your website like your house. Your home (website), has a hallway and stairs (internal links) that connects your rooms (posts and pages).

You home's external doors and windows (external links) connect your house to your backyard and neighbourhood.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you!

There seems to be a lot of different answers in regards to if backlinks or external links are needed anymore to improve SEO.

This question along with the answers is highly debatable. Good Luck! :)

Hi Heid

External links are good on page seo especially to authority sites such as wiki, gov and edu.

Can I suggest you Always make sure the - Open In New Tab - box is ticked and that way people don't leave your site altogether.
Robert.

I do actually do that. Those were my exact thoughts. I didn't want them not being able to get back to my site.

Thats good Heidi.
You want them to see your further info but keep them on your site once they have read that info.

On your other question about video's.

That is also good SEO simply because Google owns YouTube.

You need more advice, you get in touch.
I usually sign off about 9 pm and its 8.40 pm now where I am.

Robert

Thanks so much Robert!

For my niche my external links are usually to cite studies that I am referencing to. And I have the link pop up in a new window so it doesn’t completely pull them away.

That's a good idea!

Hi Heidi,

The short answer: yes, an embedded video points to an external source so it's an external link.

The whole idea is very simple: any link that points to your own domain (another page, post, etc) is an internal link. And any link that points to a different, separate domain (with an entirely different root URL) is considered an external link.

So ...

yourdomain.com/another-page

or

yourdomain.com/another-post

are internal links

and

anotherdomain.com/-embedded-video

is an external link

Regards,
Zed

Then I should be good to go! Thanks!

We would not consider an embedded video to be an external link because the whole point of embedding is to keep the visitor on your site. An external link is going to take the person away from your site.
Colette and Philip

That makes sense! Thank you! I was trying to create some content that doesn't have any affiliate links so that I stick to the 60/40 rule of more content without links than not on my site. How do you go about including an external link to something other than what you are trying to sell? Hopefully I am making sense.

We are still working on building up traffic to our website before we start adding affiliate links. It seems to us that you need to be very careful when adding external links (other than affiliate) because you are literally directing that visitor who clicks on them away from your site and they may not come back. Our plan is to only use external links when we really need, for instance to give greater authority to a post.

That's exactly what I was thinking So I think I will just avoid one altogether for this page.

This is a great question. And keen to know the answer myself
