Making it Pretty
So even though I spent my professional life working in a field (mortgage and investment) that had nothing to do at all with my education, I never lost a love for being creative. See, I attended FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise) so you can understand why going into Mortgage was a strange career choice.
Honestly, it wasn't much of a choice. I was newly out of school and needed to make money and at that time you could make a TON of money in mortgage. Another deciding factor in my career choice was when I was working for the event planner that was handling the Grammy's that year and being appalled at how fake everyone was. Laughing and chatting with someone one minute and making rude comments about them when their back was turned the next minute. Wasn't for me. So mortgage it was.
But being gone from a creative field hasn't lessened my need to organize and make things "pretty". That's what I loved about attending FIDM. Even your English essay needed to look appealing.
Now that I am starting a new career (one month on Wednesday - woot woot), I feel like I'm working muscles that I haven't used in a long time and it feels great! I am super OCD especially when it comes to design so I find myself probably spending too much time trying "pretty" things especially my website. But hey, that's the beauty of this new adventure. It's mine. I can make whatever I want out of it. I can take the time to make it pretty if I want and I don't have anyone breathing down my neck telling me that's wrong.
That in a nutshell is why I am here... well... that and to make money but that's another topic.

Hi, welcome to WA and I'm looking forward to one day seeing the prettiest site on the internet
I love your story!! I too have a bent to the creative side, as well as not wanting a boss telling me what to do.
That's been the biggest and most refreshing part of working for myself. I am addicted. Don't think I could go back even if I had to!

Thank you, Don. That is very sweet of you to say. I love writing though I have never done it more than just for fun. And I have not heard of Zig Ziglar. My old boss and mentor used to use that phrase and we would joke about it haha. Perhaps that's where he got it!
