Life is too Short . Tomorrow is Never Promised, But You DO Have Today

As I sit here getting ready to go to a friend's funeral, I realize that I have just been letting my life go by, day after day, like there's always a tomorrow. But now I know better. There may not even be a next HOUR. Not to be morbid or anything, that's just how it is.

Just think about the tiny chick in the pic above. How long does it stay that tiny? I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that it doesn't stay tiny for long. It grows up very quickly. One minute, it's a baby, and the next it's fully grown. It amazes me, and always will. The concept of time.

Life is short. Plain and simple. It doesn't matte how many days or years that you are on this earth. What matters is what you DO with the time that you have. I was always the person who said "there's always tomorrow". After someone brought it to my attention that I joined WA 12 years ago, it hit me like a ton of bricks. All of my 'tomorrows' are now 'yesterdays'. They're gone. What have I accomplished in those 12 years? Not much.

I was great at writing for other people, only for them to tell me that they turned around and sold a 6-month-old site for 20 grand. WHAT??? That's a fact.

Fortunately, something got into my head to come back again last year. I told myself that this is it. This time I'm going to do this. Well, almost 11 months later, I look back at what I've done. Um.. not much. :(

BUT.. Happy to say, over the past month something clicked. In this past month, I have learned more and done more with my site than I ever have. I've made friends here who know what I'm doing, and know that it can be done. I've asked for help, and I've given help. I'm applying what I'm learning. In one month, I have achieved something I've been wanting to do for years.

Yes, I'm making a ton of mistakes, but I'm doing something. I'm not waiting for tomorrow. I'm done looking back, and I realize that I can't depend on tomorrow. I'm not saying that I don't have dreams about what my future holds, years from now, but you have to have those. You have to plan. Like the saying goes, "If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail." (something like that).

I'll always leave some things for tomorrow, as I'm pretty sure many people do. But I will live today as today. I won't look back a month from now and say "I wish I would've kept going..."

Life is too short for this kind of thinking. My friend picked up his wife from her weekly beauty parlor visit, when he started coughing. Though he was getting a cold. By the time he got home, 10 minutes later he was in an ambulance. A few days after that, he has undergone 6 bypasses. 6!!! Fact is, he wasn't catching a cold, he was having a heart attack. He started getting better, then fell back a step. This continued for a week.

He got to the point where they sent him to a rehab nursing home, where he stayed for only a few days, and then landed right back in the hospital on a ventilator. The next day, he started coughing. Yesterday he took his last breath, and today I am going to see him one last time. That is how fast life goes by.

Please excuse my morbidity, just too much of it going around. And those of us that are still lucky enough to be able to say "I'll do it later, there's always tomorrow", well... is there??

I sure hope and pray that there is, for each and every one of us. But for me, I'm done looking behind, and I'm done putting it off until 'tomorrow'. Tomorrow is a maybe. Right now is what I have.

For those of you still reading this, thank you for being part of my family. Thank you for letting me be a part of yours. And I hope to build many more friendships along the way.

Take care of YOU...

There is nothing like that sort of scenario for each and everyone of us to put our lives into perspective. I understand too clearly about living for today, make peace with all your regrets ( life experiences), and move on. Life is indeed too short to hold on to stuff that doesn't really matter. It is the situation and the present that counts! Brilliant post Haze. I empathise with your situation.

thank you

I'm with you Haze...al the way! I say this all the time. Today is it! Shania Twain got it right when she was going through some hard times. Beautiful song and the words express it all!

thank you

So sorry to hear about your friend. What a shock!
Yes, life is short. I find much inspiration here at WA, as I see others in their struggles and progress.
This is a great place to be, as so many are willing to help. I was just thinking today that the reason we are building websites is to help people. And many members here want to help each other.
Best to you,
Barbara

thank you

So sorry about your friend Haze. ((((Hugs))))

You haven't made mistakes, you have found the ways not to do some things. Each is a stepping stone to success.
No successful business person reached success without creating a lot of stepping stones on the way. It's all a learning curve.
It means that in the future you can guide someone not to make the same mis-steps.
Look at the past for lessons, look to the future to guide your path but live in the now.

thank you
