Make Sure You Have the Right Goal
Hello fellow Wealthy Affiliates (WA). I recently read an introduction by a fellow WAer and was struck by what his main goal is, which is of course to make money. I have studied and taught karate for approximately 40+ years. What I have noticed over those years is the individuals whose main goal was to get a Black belt, once they obtained it, they no longer practiced. Those however, who really want to understand what the martial arts is about the "Do" (way) and make that their goal tend to be around for a long time. That is how I see joining WA. If you joined for the money you will be disappointed on several levels. The first is how long it takes to make a comfortable amount that will allow you to quite your day to day. The second is missing the gifts (e.g. Opportunity to learn something new everyday) you have been given access to. Like karate, WA is a journey not an end

Actually, I see WA as a tool to build my business.
Yes, I want to make money but I have decided to make my online projects more like a business rather than just making a few bucks.
Agree with you when you think just in term of making money (I used to think like this but not anymore), you're going nowhere like that. Also, the investment and commitment are not the same.

Hi Harvey! This is so true! WA is going to be a never ending journey for me. It might make me some money, but it also a lot of fun learning new things and being productive in my retirement years!
We are in the same boat Robin. I am also retired, but fortunate to have had a job I enjoyed. For those that do not like their jobs I do feel for. The competition is perhaps higher than when I came out of school. Of course one of the reasons for this is my generation, "Baby Boomers," not retiring.
Hi Harvey, I have the gratest respect for everybody who has enough self-discipline and determination to do something for 40 years. Pity we shall probably never meet, it would be a great honor for me.
Jovo that time has gone by so fast, I hardly noticed, but I do have some wonderful memories and friends all over the world. We have met Jovo, not in person which is always warmer, but definitely in spirit through WA. You have a great weekend.
That is a good analogy. I WANT to make money as my main goal AND understand the ins and outs of maintaining a successful business too so I guess I fit into the latter category. I will be having two successful websites this year as I balance the building between them as I learn something new each day. Talk soon my friend.

I truly understand what you mean. In my days as a martial artist, I was taught your true learning begins at the Black Belt level.
Everything that is learned prior to that is suddenly an instant eye opener once you begin training as a Black Belt. I trained and taught for several years until I was injured at work.
I still practice some of my techniques at night to relieve some stress when I take a breather from sitting here typing. But I do a lot of meditating, perhaps too much.
Sometimes my wife thinks that I'm sleeping, but it's all good. I enjoyed your blog my friend.

You are still walking in the "Do." Once you go further than the first degree, you have started to live the Do. I am starting to research Ki/Chi development. That will probably take me until I transcend this life, but worth it.
