Meta Description

In December, 2017, Google increased the number of characters from 160 to 320. In May, 2018, they reduced it once again to 155 characters. Does Google, like some despotic ruler, take a sadistic delight in wielding its power over its sufffering and subserviant subjects?
Also, does it mean that to comply with Google, in its infinite wisdom, I need to change the meta descriptions in all my published posts and pages, which number over 100, to save my rankings?

Hi, Elaine, shades of 1984 and Big Brother ! It looks like Google has replaced Zeus as the Supreme God.
The answer is yes, and yes. So unfortunately, it does.
I've just finished going through all mine.

Yes, Brian... arrrggg! I need to go back and reduce the number of characters in my meta description.
I do remember Jay mentioned in one of his webinars that Google would most likely not stick with the 320 characters for long. I wish I listened to him then.
You are not alone...

Hi, Monica, Thanks for the reply. It seems Google gets a sadistic sense of pleasure by frustrating us mere mortals.
In the image below just replace "the Lord's" with "Google's" and that sums it up for me. Best wishes.
