Wordpress Theme Templates - burning questions that have been on my mind.

I purchased a wordpress theme and I have been using it for years now. I customized the theme to what I like. Over the years, I have not deleted all the templates that was provided by the theme. I am sure google has picked up all these template files. Now, I would like to clean house and simplify.

I have several burning questions that have been on my mind the past year:

1. Would deleting all the existing templates hurt me on the Google ranking because another page maybe referencing those templates without me knowing it? Or should I just leave those templates be and not worry about it? What is the best way to approach this?

2. I am also afraid to delete the templates because I think that there is a slim chance that I may use it in the future. Another word I am a pack rat. =) I have a hard time parting with my junk. Wondering, how can I keep these files around without having it being published on the internet?

Thank you in advance for answering my questions. Looking forward to hear the different thoughts, perspectives, and experiences to pursue my quest of simplification.

Happy pac ratting. See Calvin' response

Tried and True

Elaine

Thank you, Elaine. Calvin it's very helpful. I've shall follow his advice.

I'm pretty good at creating websites, however, I'm pretty behind for the rest.

I really have to put more efforts and being more present in WA, I believe WA is a great place to learn and meet interesting peoples.

I will create a complete Wordpress training from A to Z with all the themes and plugins I've used.

I have that idea a few months ago since I've been accepted into the SWA program, I will do it, just have to put everything together.

An excellent idea!!! Thank you Calvin being present for my questions. I appreciate it. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Good answer from Calvin. Also a pack rat, trying to sort out my office and pc.

Glad you stopped by. Hopefully we all can benefit. Thank you for your thoughts.

What is the theme you use?

Deleting some templates you made won't affect your ranking, a template is just something you use to make your workflow better and faster.

Templates you created with your theme are connected to the theme, they won't be accessible if you change your theme, but it doesn't affect ranking.

A theme is just a bridge to help you create a website, page or post using Wordpress.

Wordpress is not the only tool available to create a website or blogs.

A page or post are made of codes, a lot of lines of codes, Wordpress and Wordpress theme write these lines of codes for you when you're creating a page or post.

Now there are themes that will help you get a better ranking, they're made for peoples who are interested in marketing, SEO, and ranking.

They have tools that can help you in these particular tasks.

I understand how you feel, however, keep in mind, technology changes fast and themes that perhaps are very good just 2 or 3 years ago can be outdated today.

Don't hesitate to change, your goal is to get the results you desire when using a tool. After all, you pay for it.

Good luck.

Thank you, Calvin! I am using a theme called Cosmos that comes with a variety of slider plugins for slide shows and woo commerce as well. I thought it was pretty complicated. It took me a while to understand how to customize it.

What you wrote make sense. Thank you for explaining it. I am glad it won't affect my ranking position.

Happy it helps.

I also would suggest you don't use slider too much, avoid these fancy stuff, it only slows down your website.

Some experts suggest not using them simply, I was like you I like these things, but recently I learned using them won't help me rank better, in contrary.

I've learned to focus more on writing great contents with good email subscription and call to action function.

If you really want to make some changes, I think it's time you take action, at some point, you have to get rid of the old thing to build something new and better.

It was hard for me to get rid of things I created before, but I did it anyway and I was able to accomplish more in less time because, I have the experiences now.

Sometimes old things only slow you down.

3 themes I would suggest if you decide to make some change:

Astra
Elementor
Thrive Architect

I used Divi a year ago and would recommend it to everybody, but recently I switch to Thrive Architect and I'm really happy with it.

Divi is too heavy, the codes it produces made my page slow to render and some functions are inconsistent when I navigate my websites.

I also have to take in count how the theme renders the pages on a mobile device, Thrive Architect made it very easy to make these changes.

Now there are learning curves just like Divi, but it worth it to make the change.

Take your time to see other possibilities and choose the one that can help you accomplish your goal faster and in a more efficient way.

Thank you, Calvin! That really helps. I shall take a look at Astra, Elementor, Thrive Architect, and Divi.

I agree "Changes" is good. It is very scary at the same time. I shall take your advise and make changes.

Yup, it's scary to change because we don't know what kind of results it will produce.

Experiences are the best motive to change.

Good luck.

I think you answered your own question. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you, Rick! Sometimes I just need to put my thoughts down and bounce it to the universe. I get too involved in the small picture that I forget to look outside the box.
