What does it mean when my Content is Indexed?

I received 9 articles indexed all at the same time. WAHOO!!!

However, all 9 articles were written and submitted at a different time. It was great to see those alerts but what does that mean?

I am guessing that my articles are now on one of the pages when people do a keyword search. So it leads me to the next question, if I wrote articles outside of siteContent are they being indexed as well? However, I am only notified if those articles were written in siteContent?

I still have older articles written in siteContent that has not been indexed. Does that mean anything?

Looking forward to hear your perspectives!!! Thank you for checking in.

Good question. Indexing and ranking are mysteries!

Tanya

It does get confusing. Timotheus gave a great info between the two. Thank you for leaving your thoughts.

That is exactly what I do. I just kept expecting some other notification from Google to confirm it. Here is something interesting: For months my "Successful Aging Blog" page, not post, was ranked 4 on page 1 and it disappeared. I found it on page 2, close to the bottom. When I attempted to check what they had that I didn't (that was one of my first pages), I was denied access to their article! Imagine that.

Congratulations on your #1 on #1 or did last time I checked. I have a couple of those myself. Thanks for the help.

Tanya

Congratulations! Ha. It's awesome! It's good to include some internal and external links plus update your older articles by adding a paragraph to them.

Tadeusz

Thank you. Great suggestions. I shall update them.

Congratulations!! Its so exciting isn't it. Now the next step is to get ranked! But if you can get 9 indexed in a day that ranking will come too!

Randi

Thank you for stopping by with your thoughts. I am learning to take one step at a time and being patient.

Timotheus gave you a great answer.

To that, I’ll only add the suggestion that if you do not already have relevant internal links between all these pages (especially those not yet indexed), then you might consider adding a few.

Have a fab day!

Good idea. I shall check to make sure that there are relevant links.

It sounds good!

Wayne

Thank you for your comment.

You will get a message for the site content ones when the article is ranked on page 1 of any of the 3 search engines. Go in and check each of them with jaaxy to see what search engine(s) have them ranked.

I thought it only means for Google indexing. I get some pages indexed in Bing and Yahoo but not on Google and I don't receive any notification as well. WA only send notification once your post is indexed by Google to my experience.

Will do. Thank you...

I have received a notification for Google from WA. I have not received anything for Bing or Yahoo.

This is what it means for me when any of my posts get indexed I go and check the jaaxy keyword and see where it lands.

This is more of a theory than an absolute answer, prior to believing this was the case it wasn't clear to me why more of mine didn't get that indexed number.

You could be indexed/ranked in them for more than one keyword and it may not even be the keyword you had targeted.

I do the same as well in Jaaxy SiteRank. I also check what type of keywords are being searched for a particular post in Google Search Console.

Index by Google means that your page has been noticed by Google and there is a possibility of it being found on search results. Think of it as a book being cataloged in the library. Being cataloged means the book can be found.

Being indexed is not the same as being ranked. How your page ranks depends on the keywords, competition, and the SEO you done.

Google does its best to index all the pages of a website. But it does not do that quickly. Some pages take time because Google's algorithm is trying to figure out the value, quality and relevance of the page. And this - for some pages - can take time.

So, if you find some pages indexed but some not. Do not be concerned. For those not indexed, it is not that they will not be indexed. It is just - not now, and later.

The important thing is to have at least some, maybe at least half, of the pages on your website indexed. Then do SEO to get them ranked.

Thank you for differentiate the ranking vs indexed. I thought they were the same. Very good to know.

Awesome reply Timotheus. I learnt a lot. Thank you. Dave

How do you know when they have been ranked?

You're welcome :)

Glad to hear that, Dave.

May everything you do succeed & prosper! :)

There are many online tools that claim to be able to help you check when your website or any of its pages are ranked. Unfortunately, all of them are inaccurate, misleading or have results that do not match the rankings by Google.

The reason for this is that Google does not approve of such services. In fact, these services are in violation of Google's terms of services.

Read Google Webmaster Guidelines for further details - https://goo.gl/h32rYD

Here's an extract of the guildelines about such services:

"Don’t use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google."

The Best & Safest way to check Google ranking? - Manually (which is how I do it)

I will go into Incognito mode.
Enter the keywords that I wish to see my site or pages ranked.
Comb through page by page to see if it ranks anywhere.
Usually, I go until page 10. Any further is pointless.

Why until Page 10?
While it is climbing up the hundreds of pages, it is good to see where it is currently. If it goes into Pages 2 to 10, I know that the SEO is working, and I can strategize what else I can do to improve SEO, to bring the listing to Page 1.

Also, I can check competitors and try to outdo them.
E.g. If my page is on Page 3, I check on the competitors on Page 2, see what they do, what SEO efforts they make. Then I do the same and better. Soon enough, I will rank above them. Then I repeat for the competitors on Page 1, and I do it until I get on Page 1. Better still - #1 on Page 1.

I did that for my website - timotheuslee.com
Do a keyword search for - Digital Marketing Consultant Singapore - and you can see my site ranked on #1 on 1st Page.

May everything you do succeed & prosper! :)
