Did you know that from the day Winter Solstice (December 21) begin, the sun stays out approximately 2 minutes longer every day until Summer Solstice which is June 21 in the northern hemisphere. The sun rise 1 minute earlier in the morning and sets 1 minute later in the evening. This makes June 21 to be the longest day of the year. However, it's the opposite for the southern hemisphere.

A few fun facts on the 21st of June:

  • First official day of summer
  • National Nude Day!
  • People from all over the world flock to Stonehenge each year to celebrate the solstices and equinoxes.
  • Alaska sunrise is at 4:20am and sunset is at 11:40pm
  • National Daylight Appreciation Day

I thought I throw in something fun and different to break up the monotonous hot summer and working hard (or is it hardly working) on my article writing.

Happy Longest Day of the Year!!! I celebrated with hard and hearty indoor rock climbing. My body is definitely tire. I will sleep well tonight. What did you do today? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts...

A great time for jump starting!

Yes!!! Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

Haha.. haroda,
you remind me of this longest day.
It was out of my mine.
It's a very important day worldwide.

Thanks for sharing lady.
Cheers!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Are you in Asia? When I was living in Vietnam since it's near the equator, I don't think it has the similar effect.

I am in NE-India and we do feel it on 21st though.

I guess NE of India is further from the equator than Vietnam... Thank you for the info. I learn something new every day.

Very interesting.
Keep the excitement up, up.

Here in northern Alberta, Canada, we get 15 hours of daylight and 2 hours of twilight. It's AWESOME!!

Wow!!! Do you go to sleep while it's still light out?

Thank you for sharing...

Well, I'm a night hawk so no, lol. But it was always hard getting the kids to bed when they were little. Most of us invest in room darkening blinds, LOL

I guess I would be too.. Thank you!

When we visited our son’s family in Alaska, as we stepped out of the airport, we were greeted with -29 degrees and gusting winds. The snow was 4-6 feet deep depending on where in their area we were. At night or nighttime hours when we were supposed to be sleeping, we were so hot as the sun was reflecting off the snow and into our window. That was very different to us as we live on the Gulf Coast where we just rarely see snow. If we have any, it melts as the ground isn’t frozen or cold enough to sustain it. Such a wonderful lesson learned. We appreciated our air conditioner when we got home! We enjoyed our trip and the beautiful scenery and wildlife!

While I sit at my computer shivering with cold, I send you best wishes and happy thoughts for your celebration of the Summer Solstice.

And, thanks for the fun facts. I was not aware of most of them, certainly not the second one!!

Enjoy your summer. I hope it is a brilliant one, with lots of happiness and success :)

It's probably your shortest day of the year...
Thank you for sharing with me your thoughts and experiences.

Stay warm. I'll send some heat your way....

Thanks so much. I look forward to receiving the heat!

And, our shortest day of the year has passed, yesterday being the 21st in New Zealand :)

I had an opportunity to visit New Zealand 18 years ago and I enjoyed it very much. It was an amazing trip, friendly people and beautiful country. I was introduced to Flakes. That's my favorite now...

I'm so pleased you've visited New Zealand and enjoyed your time here. You got me wondering about Flakes so with the help Google to find what Flakes are in New Zealand, it seems they must be Cadbury's chocolate or Potato Flakes. Being a chocolate lover, I'll try some Flakes with kind thoughts of you.

Have a wonderful weekend :)

Yes, Cadbury chocolate. Yum! I am usually not a chocolate person but Flakes got my vote. There are no Flakes in the US. :(
So it's a treat when I come across some.
