Social distancing

Social distancing is the catchphrase of 2020 and a challenge we all face.

How we all manage this is generally a credit to you unless you live in the southern states of the US and take your protest and guns to the parliament.

I live in a small village, about two million people and an area bigger than Texas.

We have just about overcome the Covid crisis and allowed a bit more freedom.

What is interesting is the control of other diseases that come at this time of the year,

First of all we are in late Autumn so just finished Summer

Secondly Flue needles are available to all and us old people get it for free and yes I have had mine this year.

During April last year there were about 548 cases of influenza and this year just twenty.

In the last fortnight no cases of measles, mumps, shingles, hooping cough and more.

Covid has had no cases for three days and only two in the last week. Both from overseas.

Deaths from Covid are about eight, with most being off tourist ships, whilst influenza generally claims 80 lives a year. This includes both the elderly and children

My question is will social distancing be the norm for a long time to come?

PS Our borders are locked to interstate travel and all overseas.

Great article, I believe that social distancing is a wake up call that we should be more aware of our surrounding.

Germs have always been everywhere but, now we are more cautious of how quickly they can spread.

As you stated, influenza generally claims more lives that covid. Covid19 has taught us to be more careful and clean to prevent germs from spreading.

The new normal will certainly be different.

Hi, Peter.
Nice to hear from you again.
I trust that you are well.

I am not an expert, Peter but one of the most sensical things that we can do is to 'social distance' until the CDC and WHO can get a grip on what is going on.

We are told that a vaccine is still very far into the future.

We have learned that there are some 'band-aid' solutions to reduce fatality by using previous vaccines developed.

Who are we to know what exactly is going on.

In answer to your question...I think it only makes sense to practice safe distancing. We went through a previous era (HIV) where 'safety' was recommended in the form of 'Safe Sex.'

Your guess is as good as mine.

Limit unnecessary travel and contact with others for now.
Practice personal hygiene and encourage others to do the same.

Stay safe.

Kindest regards from Southern Ontario, Canada.

Paul Mindra.

Unfortunately, this is the new normal Peter and I too think it will be that way for some time yet. Seems that here in the UK restrictions will remain once lockdown is eased.

I believe it will until a vaccine is available. Our way of life will be different. 🤔

Great post.
Joe
