Shoot Yourself In The Foot to Success Method
There is a scene in the movie ‘Deal of the Century” where Chevy Chase, who plays an arms dealer is the middle of a sales pitch to the rebel army and gets shot in the foot during a firefight.
While playing golf, he hits himself in the same spot with a golf club while negotiating out on the links.
Later, in yet another mishap scene, he is shot in the same foot by Sigourney Weaver’s character, once again reopening the wound. While not the world’s best movie (IMDb rated a measly 4.5 out of 10 stars), those painful scenes of Chevy hobbling around through half the movie stayed with me all these years since the one time I watched it.
Of course, getting “shot in the foot” is not the same as shooting yourself in the foot. When you shoot yourself in the foot, the pain is compounded by the knowledge that your misfortune was SELF INFLICTED.
In case you don’t know, “shooting yourself in the foot” is a metaphor for sabotaging your own success. The cause could be due to fear of failure, or it could be fear of success. I’m no stranger to either, and in my case, I would have to admit, it’s always been a little bit of both. There came a time, not that long ago when I finally decided I couldn’t get any lower than I already was. Well, maybe I could have, but I wasn’t about to. I’d simply had enough.
This is the Shoot Yourself In The Foot to Succeed Method to Success in a nutshell… You simply sabotage your self every time you get close to reaching your dreams or any of your goals, until finally, one day you just say enough’s enough. You realize you’ve been shooting yourself in the foot and simply refuse to do it anymore.
If you can relate to what I’m saying here, then let’s make a pact. Take all of your ammunition, and all of the energy you have been using to shoot yourself in the foot; aim as high as you can. Then pull the trigger.
Shoot for the stars.

I've been shooting myself in the foot recently, and I definitely have myself to blame. So now is the time to stop it, and focus on working and reaching my goals.
Excellent!!! This is perfect, Hal!
I never saw that movie, but Chevy Chase was my man!!! And yes, I know all about self sabotage all too well. My foot has enough holes, so I'll gladly shoot for the stars!
