Average Goals Will Return Average Results

Average goals will get you one thing: average results!

For your own sake and the sake of your business - AVOID average goals! An average goal is not worth the time and it's not worth the effort.

For a lot of us, average goals just don’t provide enough motivation. There’s nothing exciting or inspirational about them. And, as a result, they rarely lead to something great. After all, since mediocre goals require mediocre action, they often lead to mediocre outcomes.

On the other hand, when you upgrade your goals and take them to the next level, you start taking real action. You get results that enable you to break boundaries and move past your competition.

Average goals have one thing in common: they’re not very challenging. In turn, that makes them easy to achieve for anyone willing to put in a little effort. They basically lower the barrier of entry.

When too many people go after the same type of goal, the field can soon become crowded. Increased competition from tens of thousands of average, mediocre people can make it difficult stand out from the rest.

Next time you’re thinking about setting an average goal, do yourself a favor and go after a big one. Big goals on average net big results.

Trying to reach a goal larger than you're accustomed to may initially seem difficult or even impossible at first, but the rewards far, far outweigh the sacrifices.

Are You Part of the 8 Percent?

Did you know that according to the University of Scranton a staggering 92 percent of people that set New Year's goals never actually achieve them? The 8 percent of goal-setters who do succeed because they want to achieve, and badly.

So ask yourself these questions: What is my level of commitment? Am I totally sold out for reaching my goals? When unexpected difficulties and obstacles come up along the way, will I give up without a fight?

The 8 percent have an internal compass that keeps them locked with unwavering focus until they reach the top of the mountain. It's a belief system of "do whatever it takes" and "by any means necessary" that is intimately motivated at their core.

It's good on a regular basis to re-evaluate yourself. If you don't really have a burning desire or passion to pursue a goal that you've set, you're not going to reach it, no matter how specific or challenging your goal is.

Ask yourself these questions: How badly do I want to reach this goal? Am i willing to do what it takes to reach my goals? What's life going to look like once I complete the goal? In the end, will it be worth it?

Avoid Multitasking - It Doesn't Work

The most successful goal-achievers are very patient and live by the motto "one step at a time." They also avoid the myth of multitasking. If you think juggling many things is a recipe for success, you're dead wrong.

Multitasking is not a good strategy for success. Since you end up splitting your focus over many tasks, the quality of your work suffers and it takes a longer time to hit your goals. When you fail to reach your goals repeatedly, discouragement sets in.

The 8 percent have realized the advantage of working on several smaller goals to complete a larger one. Breaking the goal down into smaller chunks increases the rate of success in reaching your larger goals.

Understand that no one is born predisposed to these talents. Scientific research has proven that successful people achieve their goals not because of who they are, but because of what they do; the consistent actions that they take.

Are You Willing to Take Massive Action?

The path to success is to take massive, determined action. – Anthony Robbins

Achieving your goals or succeeding in any field of endeavor requires the type of effort called massive action. It's the kind of action that most people are not willing to take to get the job done. They just won't do it.

To take massive action means doing far more than the average person would do under the same or similar conditions. To take massive action requires you to go further than anyone would typically expect.

It means going after your goals with mental clarity and a sense of urgency.

When you take massive action, you acquire unwavering focus toward the accomplishment of your goals. It also means taking full responsibility of your failures, mistakes, and problems and doing all you possibly can to make matters right.

Taking Massive Action is a Skill You Can Learn

To take massive action isn’t just about “doing a lot of stuff”. It’s a mindset and the way you approach your work. You MUST have a winner's attitude and a relentless mentality in order to think a certain way.

You've got to learn to take risks and believe in yourself. You have to have a measure of self-confidence as well. Without these important factors — you will simply not have the necessary mindset to take massive action over the long haul.

Waking up tomorrow morning, rolling out of bed and deciding to take massive action towards your goals will not work for most people. Most people have too many bad habits and negative mental conditioning holding them back.

People also allow their fears to hold them back, regardless if those fears are real or imagined. Many today also have an inability to commit wholeheartedly to get things done because of a chronic lack of focus.

How I Acquired the Ability to Take Massive Action

There are two specific things I did EVERY DAY that allowed me to develop the skill of taking massive action. The FIRST I did was accept FULL responsibility for the mess that was called My Life. Then I took steps to strengthen my relationship with my Creator.

Please understand that my focus was on my horrible financial condition. I had to turn my finances around and stop the lack, limitation and overwhelm.

I accepted 100% responsibility for all the decisions that I made that allowed me to get to a very unhappy place.

Then I made a decision to change it!

I make a decision to read 10 pages a day of a personal development book.

10 pages a day. No compromise. No excuses.

I now have increased my reading to 30 pages a day because I'm determined to see results sooner rather than later. I have a sense of urgency in reaching my financial goals - and I actually enjoy it!

You're thinking to yourself at this point: "Are you kidding me?..Really?"

You think this is a bunch of crap?

Sam Klemens in his blog called Medium has an eye-opening post entitled "The Reading Habits of 10 Millionaires and Billionaires." Notice how he outlines the correlation between reading and wealth.

Let’s look at the reading habits of 10 millionaires and billionaires. The following is directly quoted from his post:

  1. M.J. Demarco is a self-made millionaire and author of the book: The Millionaire Fastlane. In that book he talks about the importance of reading and suggests that a book a week is a good target to set. He also hosts a recommended bookshelf on his website.
  2. The motivational speaker Zig Ziglar claimed to read three hours a day, despite his tight schedule. Rory Vaden talked about this on his podcast when he interviewed Zig’s son, Tom Ziglar.
  3. Brandon Carter, the internet celebrity of massive muscular proportions, says: “I read 2 hours everyday. This habit is responsible for the majority of my success. I don’t know many rich people who don’t read a lot, but every poor person I know has an “X-Box”.
  4. Warren Buffet claims to read 500 pages a day. He’s stated that he devotes about 80% of his time to reading. Perhaps it isn’t a coincidence that he’s one of the richest men in the world.
  5. Mark Cuban, another successful billionaire, reads 3 hours a day. That adds up to about 1,000 hours a year. Say the average book takes 5 hours to read, that means Cuban is reading 200 books a year.
  6. The man who unleashed Microsoft onto the world, Bill Gates, reads 50 books a year. The result? At the time of this writing he is currently the wealthiest person in the world with a cool $78,000,000,000.
  7. In an interview he did on his podcast with Ramit Sethi, New York Times best-selling author, Tim Ferriss, says that he reads 3 to 4 books a week. That adds up to 150 to 200 books a year.
  8. In 2015 Mark Zuckerberg pledged to a read a book every two weeks. While this may be less ambitious than other billionaires on this list, some books on his list are long and complex.
  9. Danny Gilbert, self-made billionaire and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, reads one to two hours a day.
  10. You may not have heard of Arthur Blank, but you’ve definitely heard of the store that he co-founded: Home Depot. Blank reads two hours a day and has amassed a current fortune of $1,300,000,000.

I'm NOT saying you have to read three hours a day - the point is you MUST MAKE THE TIME to re-program your subconscious mind with information specifically designed to create million-dollar habits.

The SECOND thing I did was use ALL of my driving time to listen to personal development audio books OR free YouTube videos on wealth creation and personal development.

I absolutely committed myself to STOP wasting time filling my ears and my mind with garbage and reprogram my subconscious with information that will allow me to develop new behaviors.

These were the two steps I took in order to develop the skill of consistently taking massive action. Did it take tremendous effort to overcome years of procrastination, doubts, justification, laziness and FEAR? Absolutely!

Develop Million Dollar Habits

Developing these million dollar habits was difficult at first, but within a short period, I really started to enjoy it. With consistent effort, you can do the same as well. Even the small improvements you see will astound and encourage you!

Finally, If you’ve failed while pursuing your goals, understand that failure is a part of success. There WILL be times when you efforts will fall short.

When you get knocked down, don't stay down. Find ways to overcome the failure and incorporate it into your massive action plan. Create an alternate plan that you can go to when your main plan fails. Be flexible and willing to make adjustments.

Re-focus when you need to. Take quiet time to re-envision your goals and while review the reasons why you wanted to achieve them in the first place.

Great points! Thanks for sharing with us.

Thank You Nancy29,

It literally blows my mind that only 3 people have commented on this post!

3 people!

That’s very sad...Peole today don’t want to hear what they need to hear, only candy coated crap that makes them feel good...

I read your blog with the same urgency as I make my goals...half assed!! Yep, you met one of the 92% that fail at, well everything. It wasn't until I slowed down, opened my mind, and accepted your blog as a "How To" manual that I actually accepted it, understood it, and could apply it with relative ease. I simply MUST put goals into action. I have spent 6 months at WA and have nothing to show for my labor and it has nothing to do about WA. It is me...all me!
Somewhere along the way I need to accept this responsibility of goal setting and run with it rather than letting the words I put on paper mysteriously jump off the page and do the deed itself! That is my primary goal...Just do it! Thank you Mr. Howard. Point taken! 💕

Hey nurselizstar,

Thank you so much for your kind words.

If just 1 person benefits from this blog post, it was worth the hard work to write it.

Although I’m really surprised that only 2 people have read and liked it so far... Scratching my head on this one...

Just 2 people?...Really?

I wish you much success!
