When I copy and paste my referral links, is it better to set the link to open in a new window or open in the same window it was clicked?

I one of the training it says to let it open in a new window. I personally think its good that way. If a window is clossed another one is still open. Who knows costumer may remain in your site and it can turn to pay costumer.
