My First Amazon Check - It works!

Last Update: July 05, 2019

I just received my first check from Amazon. It was only $139 US but I know the next month is double that and it's steadily increasing.

My website is now approaching about 7,000 visits a month and about half of that traffic clicks across to Amazon.

It was only back in October '18, about 8 months ago that I was worried about getting my Amazon account cancelled because of no sales. Here's a snapshot of my first few sales.

Back then there was less than 20 clicks a day going to Amazon.

Compare that to the last 30 days now.

What a difference 8 months makes. Clicks now average between 100 to 200 per day, and there was not a single day without a sale. There's usually between 1 and 15 sales a day.

The thing that started making it happen? I started doing 'Best Of' posts.

I got onto a training by WA member @Zarina who referred me to a training by WA member @dylanrieger called 'How To Create A 6 Figure Website'.

Since I started doing 'Best Of' posts, I've done about 20 now, and 16 of them are in my top 20 most visited posts. Even better, about 10 of them are ranked page 1 number 1 on a google search.

I've done individual product reviews before, but never made many sales. Now with '10 Best' post of about 3,000-4,000 words there's sales every day. It works!

At the current rate of traffic increase by 2,000 visits/month I'm hoping for a $1,000US check from Amazon by December.

I'm posting this because I still consider myself a Newbie and hope this encourages other Newbies to keep doing it - even if you see no results. Just follow the training and learn as much as you can from other WA members.

Thanks also to Kyle, Carson and Nathaniell.

You have proven that not giving up pays. I have seen graphs of other members who are earning decent amounts that showed very slow growth for one to tow years. Once the curve started ramping up the results were dramatic. Asymptotic curves behave like that. It's all in the math!

All the best to you Greg. Thanks so much for sharing, especially the change in your strategy that was significant in your success.

Cheers.

How's this Zarina? I did a new info post on Action Cam mounting tips - for dirt bike riders. I never thought for a minute it would ever rank much, the whole GoPro thing is huge.
Page One, Number One -THE VERY NEXT DAY.
So now I'm doing a 'Best Of' post for Action Cams and then will internally link back to the mounting tips post.
The hilarious thing is that I've never used a helmet cam!
I'd better start researching, I'm getting the impression GoPro and Sony are the leaders.

I just checked, you definitely are!!! Good stuff!!

Funny you should mention action cams, I just recently added 3 action cam options for sports (in my niche), but for me it'll definitely be a tougher niche.

Considering your niche, it definitely should rank especially if your info post did!

You must be thrilled :D

Seriously, so happy for you. As Dylan correctly noted "helping people make money feels as good as making money yourself" (I spoke with him today about your success).

Are you both living in the same part of Canada?
Must get back there one day, I've been to Whistler skiing.

Oh no, Dylan is in New York (I meant I chatted with him online). And I’m in Toronto. Well, Newmarket if I’m specific.

I'm researching action cams now. Most of the other 'Best Action Cam' posts are only best 3, there's no best 10. Do you think 3 is enough for a 'best of' post? I don't think there's 10 good ones available.
The most popular is the GoPro Hero7 with 797 reviews, but lots of bad reviews. That normally puts me off including them, but it is the biggest seller. What do you think?

I know with action cams surprisingly there aren't too many of them.

I think Hero6 has a bit better reviews than Hero7 but if anything you could mention that while there are 2 camps re: hero7, it's still the most popular/bestseller and explain YOUR reasons for recommendation. Of course mention the cons.

Then move to the other products that are somewhat good.

Also right in the beginning in the intro you could say that action cams don't tend to provide as top quality as regular cameras, but for dirt bike movie purposes they certainly work. (Setting the right expectations right away).

Maybe add some YouTube videos of how each camera performs (sound, quality etc). Even better if it's a dirt bike rider with an action cam.

Hope this helps, Greg!

Your results are really amazing, Greg :)

You said you followed Dylan's training.

Before that, have you followed the OEC
or the bootcamp training to build the
foundations of your site?

How many articles you publish per week
and their word length?

Also, what is the ratio of your best of/review
posts to info posts?

Do you buy the products to write the reviews
or are they just based on research only?

Is all your traffic organic or you used social
media?

Have you done any link building?

I am sure that your site will soon cross the
$500 and $1000 milestones, please do keep
us updated when those happens :)

Hi. I did all the training but didn't do the bootcamp training because I decided on another niche - Off-road motorcycles.

I'm never able to do more than one post a week. 'Best Of' posts take a lot of time researching products. They are a minimum of 4,000 words.
I have never bought the products, that would cost me thousands, I just do lots of research an use my lifetime of experience to recommend products.
The ratio of Best Of to Info posts would be about 3 Best Of's to 1 info, but prior to that, I did way more info posts.
Most of the traffic is organic, but some social media, Pinterest has been best for me.
I do a lot of Internal linking to older related posts, then link older posts with lots of traffic back to the new post.
I also do some External links to well-respected websites with relevant content where I can.
I also follow all the SEO tips that you find here at WA.
Hope this helps.

Man, that is awesome. None of my "best of" posts rank at all, some 8,000+ words long. But my individual posts rank much, much better. I wonder if the "best of" works better for certain niches. I am in the health/fitness arena.

Sounds like you are well on your way to a profitable niche website, great job.

I'm in the Off-road motorcycle (Dirt Bikes) niche. I still don't know how profitable it will be, but you have to enjoy what you write about.

I think it converts better in certain niches than others. I've only written one best-of-list and I was pleasantly surprised when I googled the keyword and found my post ranking on page one fourth position on google and page one second position on both bing and yahoo. What made it even better was that my site is barely 4 months old but it's out-ranking some older and stronger sites targeting the same keyword. I only target low hanging "best of" keywords and they are mostly longtail. Ideally with a QSR less than 50 then I write an extremely long post. My post was 7300 words and had 15 products.

You have a very touch niche, especially considering that it's health related (those Google updates couldn't be nice!). Also try to examine competition's best of's and understand what is it they are doing that helps them rank better (besides being aged). User experience and all that also matters.

Hey Zarina, you are correct, super tough niche. Actually the last Google update has been kind.

If you ask me, my "best of" posts are better than the ones on page one LOL. Links are the key difference.

I just keep writing, whether it's perseverance or stupidity I am not sure.

I am making progress though, which is nice. 👍

Definitely perseverance ;) Then yeah its probably age and backlinks especially in a tough niche like yours. Stay strong!!!
