Responsability -A different take.

We so often read, hear and say that we are all responsible for ourselves and our lives, but what do we really MEAN when we say this?

Do we mean that it is up to us to make sure we have enough food, somewhere to live, clothes to wear etc? Does this also include our "responsibility" for those in our care such as children, (older/elderly/sick) parents, employees? What do you think, what does responsibility mean to you?

I would like to share something I read today from Lisa Natoli which gives another perspective on "Responsability" - yes i spelt it correctly. Respons-ability means being able to respond, having the ability to respond in the way we choose to life's event. Rather than seeing ourselves as victims who things are being done to, we get to choose how we respond to them. This empowers us because we can directly and instantaneously choose to be happy or angry, feel insulted, hurt, judged or otherwise.

As I see it, there are two immediate results of accepting my respons-ability. Firstly that I feel empowered. Secondly it brings with it the experience of a deeper sense of peace. There is also a feeling of being able to love life and everything and everyone more as it becomes apparent that there is no enemy and no justified resentment

I would be happy to hear your thoughts on this one.

Have a wonderful day

Vee

Hi Vee! Nice play on words. Our response to what we give priority to is how I perceive your message and it does make a difference in our success. If we react in a way that serves not only ourselves, but others we can achieve success and a sense of peace. If we view it as a burden, then it becomes one. Thanks!

that is also a way of looking at it. I was thinking also along the lines of realising that the way we respond determines what our lives look like; remembering that we are ABLE to respond in a way WE CHOOSE empowers us and takes us out of the zone where we feel that something is happening TO us.

That's a great point. I must admit the spelling caught my eye!

:)
once I got the difference between the two it reminded me of how much power we have over what and how we respond (or react) to things.

Hi Vee, responsibility must play a major part in what we do. Irv.

ResponsABILITY as well. Thanks

Thought provoking, post, Valina, thanks for allowing me to read.

You're very welcome, Valina.

Pretty simple.....being responsible.

it would appear simple, I agree. But how often are do we practice respons -ability as opposed to reacting?
I think being responsible is quite different from being respons-able.
