Day 1 Adopting New Habits

Starting today I would like to introduce/remind you of some habits which are intended to support you with your life and work.

They are not all new but I find a reminder every now and then and a different perspective always helpful. And they are habits which have made a difference in my life so I am hoping they will make positive changes for you too if you decide to adopt them.

Today we are looking at Decluttering.

I am assuming that the majority of us know the value of decluttering our homes and work spaces, but what about de-cluttering your relationships, thought patterns and even habits?

Let us start off with our work spaces. Here are some questions to ask yourself to make the process enjoyable and effective

1. Why do I want to declutter?

2. How will it benefit me?

Once you have got the answers to these questions get started right away. There are many ways to effectively declutter. Here a a couple of examples

1. Get into the habit of putting away 5 things before you go to bed each night

2. Set yourself the goal to put away six things before you leave home in the morning

3. Have a declutter challenge for the home - you can do this alone, with friends or your family. Aim to find 6 things for three different categories ( to give away, throw away or replace for example). Set a time limit. The person who has found the required number of items in the set time wins. (Make sure they get a reward :) )

Decluttering relationships

1. Are you happy with the friendships and other relationships in your life?

2. Are there any which you feel drain you?

3. When you think of these relationships are the related thoughts ones of joy, pleasure, fun and happiness or more centred around feelings of stress, difficulty and strain?

4. Do you feel the need to distance yourself from any of them?

Decluttering thought patterns

Thought patterns take up a lot of energy. It is helpful to review the old ones we have every now and then.

1. Which of your thought patterns and memories no longer serve you?

2.Which of them are surrounded with feelings of negativity, anger, doubt and any other debilitating emotions?

3. Can you imagine how it would be if you were no longer attached to these thought patterns or memories?

4. What is preventing you from letting them go?

Once you have had a look at these areas and answered these questions honestly you are then ready to start decluttering in those areas.

This is not an in depth course so I have kept it short. I do hope though that this will be helpful to some of you.

All the best. Comments, feedback as always welcome.
