Perfection's Not So Perfect

There is one thing that I struggled with in the beginning, and still have a constant battle with now, is Perfection. I'm a perfectionist. Believe me, it's a curse.

If you've read any of my recent blogs, I wrote them from the top of my head, like I am right now, streaming if you will, checked over it quickly for any glaring typos, and hit publish. This time 2 years ago, I would have slaved over them for a couple of weeks and then, relunctantly published them. Even worse for my website.

Good time wasted! Perfection is not needed to make it in this business. Not by a long shot. Maybe the opposite.

Nowadays, I go with the Launch and Learn Method. lol Go ahead and launch, publish, etc whatever you've got as soon as possible. Then, see what your readers, visitors, etc. think. See what the feedback is. If you have a website, look at the user paths and the performance data. Then tweak from there.

You may have a page that you feel is important, but it's buried deep in the site and not getting eyeballs on it. You may want to move it to a different area. Or you may have a blog that's getting clicked on a lot, but no results, so you may want to repurpose the content and do away with the blog entirely.

You won't know any of this until you have people looking at it and you won't have people looking at it unless you get it out there! It doesn't matter if its a blog, website, funnel, etc., you've got to get it out there. THEN tweak it from the feedback as you go.

Your website, blog, funnel won't be perfect. It never will be. There will always be room for improvement. Launch and Learn out scores Perfection any day! So, get them out there where the eyeballs can get on them and you can tweak as you go and get some results along the way!

Your spot on Grant, spot on. I look over a blog post for ever and ever, wondering if its good enough, original enough, i always start thinking, there must be a ,thousand posts like this one. . Good post, i agree totally

Sometimes striving for perfection leaves your finished article too sterile Grant. I am sure you know what I mean with everything in proper English, but that isn't the way most of us talk or write!

Let the real you come to the surface by being and writing impulsively.

Derek

Derek,
I believe you guys are onto something here. Almost seems like a more readable type of writing. To be honest with you, I personally prefer reading something that isn't "too sterile".

Thanks for sharing Grant.

I agree with what you have said.

Darren :)

Hello Grant,

Thank you for taking the time to write your blog post, it's an excellent title! I know of people who are perfectionists and working with them is almost impossible, I believe it really is a curse that holds people back!

Sometimes we just have to write or do what we have to do is each time we can actually improve and learn from our mistakes. Whereas, with perfection, it can take days to carry out one simple task. I've seen this from people who are quite close to me!

Have a great day grant, I wish you all the best.

Roy

PS: I have just read your profile Grant, I really hope that you are pushing forward on the Internet, life can be tough at times! But it's great to see that you're making every effort to move your life forward and I believe it is happening! What a wonderful way to make a living Grant, playing music, although I guess the music industry isn't the easiest way to make money although very pleasurable.

Totally agree with you Grant. Jim

Great post, Grant. I cannot say that I am a perfectionist exactly...well sort of. I do tend to hold my blog posts to look over one more time after typing.

In fact, I just finished a new post for my site tonight. It is in SiteContent as I type this to you. I will log in tomorrow when I have more time to publish it. The time is to make sure SEO and the Google Search Console has it for indexing...you know the drill.

But, either way...it sits to be published another day. My next post will be published immediately...I promise.

I wish you the best!

Bob M

Darn good advice..thanks for sharing. I'm not a perfectionist but my spouse is, so I have an idea of what you've gone through with WA. I like the launch-and-learn approach...All the best.

Trust me Bill, when your working full time, thats a lot of accomplishment with in a month. Well done.

I totally agree Grant- Launch and earn is the way to go and you can always go back to old posts and pages and update them and make them better as you learn more and more here in WA
Good post- go well
Vicki
