I'm Number One !

Last Update: January 16, 2016

I wanted to tell everyone to keep on trying and keep using the principles outlined here at WA to achieve your success. You can do it. Don't believe me? Well, I just achieved my major goal which is to be number one on Google.

GrampaMike is my user name here at WA. I decided to also make GrampaMike my commercial trade name. I knew I had the knowledge to be a top 10 rank on Google but I wanted more. I wanted to be number one with the keyword "grampamike"

I was in a competition with another established company using my keyword. So I dug in and worked very hard on my website. It took me a couple of months of work but as of 6/30/15, my website is now number one beating out an established company holding the number one spot for who knows how long.

So now when the world searches for GrampaMike, guess who they will find? Little old me!!!

____________________________________________________________________

Update: It's been 6 months since I wrote this article. It's December 2015 and I thought I had better update this post. For the keyword "GrampaMike," my .com site is number 1, my .info site is number 2, and my WA profile is number 3. So don't think you can't beat the big guys in the search engine wars. David is still tougher than Goliath.

_____________________________________________________________________

Holding the number one spot means traffic. Traffic means affiliate income. Maybe someone is searching for the other guy but with the number one spot then folks will be more inclined to find and click on my affiliate links.

My point is that through hard work, persistence, and patience then you can achieve your goals here at WA. Success won't come overnight but it will come.

Hold on to your dreams like a pit bull and never let go. You will be a success.

_____________________________________________________________

Update: (1/16/16) I closed down my GrampaMike.com project in order to work on something new. This doesn't detract from the fact that if you apply the SEO principles in the WA tutorials then you too can achieve what I did in just a few months.

Oh how interesting. I just checked and GrampaMike.com is still number 1. My NFL site is number 2. Finally, my WA profile is number 3. Is Google trying to tell me something?

Hi, Why close it down after all that hard work etc?. Now your old domain is on the market for over $3000.00.

But did you make any money from it? I assume the answer would be No, otherwise you would not have closed the site after making so much effort to reach that No. 1 spot.
Or have I missed something?

Wow that is great. I recently had a similar success getting to page one just under the company I am affiliated with so I know how it feels. I don't think I will ever get to position one over them but it is still nice to be that close.

Awesome job. This would make a good tut for a classroom here. LIke a case study on what you did and how the status is being maintained.

One question - If I should have a different keyword for every page (?or every post?) without duplications, how does one reach number one like you did. Is it because GrandpaMike is a unique enough moniker and that's your domain name? I'm finding keywords confusing.
Reply
TheNetwork16 Premium
Actually, one post with one keyword could be number one in search results for this particular keyword search.

So each post should focus on one keyword, 5 keywords means 5 posts and so on.

If you need help finding good keywords, let me know, I will be happy to send you list of few keywords to use in your posts.

Wish you all the best :)

Love your encouraging words! EXCELLENT TIP on the keyword GrandpaMike!! That's an inspirational thing to do. I want to use it! Do you mind... I'd love to give myself an online name... like my username KingShopper for making purchases online. I've had the UID since Yahoo! was born... hence the really small and specific UID. That's a 20 year username. I too have found that this is the best REAL opportunity online. No scams, you get back what you put in (most times more) and the no upselling is a dream come to reality. I am fired up, excited, motivated and inspired to succeed! I'm trying to get a site up attracting people as fellow WAs. Learning to use Keywords and other related items is slowing me down, but I'm driving through it. Take care. I see you have made a good mark on WA. I'll be reading a couple of those blogs. Very helpful!
Reply
grampamike Premium
Learning is a slow process, I know. I discover new things all the time.

Keyword use isn't complicated. I ask myself, "what do I want people to search on to find my article or post?" Then I go back to the keyword tool to see how popular my keyword is. I also put in my keyword into a Google search to check out my competition.

Strong SEO friendly content helps me be more flexible with my keywords too.

Hope that helps.
Reply
LinaB Premium
grampamike,
What exactly is SEO friendly content? Please explain.
Reply
grampamike Premium
SEO friendly content is content that is designed in such a way that search engines like it. It takes some practice to learn how to do this. However, if a dummy like me can figure it out then you can too.

The key is to keep it simple.

I discovered how to get Google's attention by accident. I started writing content in 2004. I read what the "experts" said about writing good SEO friendly content. I tried so very hard to fit into the rules. In the end, I felt like I was playing in a game of Twister. I was all tied up in knots trying to get it right. I was so frustrated that all my efforts didn't amount to much. My pages weren't ranking well, if at all. I would search the top 100 and often I wasn't there.

One day, I said to myself, "this is nuts!!!" "I don't care about SEO" "I'm going to sit down and write the way I want to." "If Google doesn't like it then the heck with them."

So I wrote a 17 page tutorial on my subject which was about heart pacemakers. Suddenly, poof. My pages began to rank in the top 10. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I figured it was a fluke but it wasn't. My page on pacemaker candidates remained at number 7 for years.

Lately, I have been writing short descriptions which are less than 300 words. Normally, about 150 words. Those descriptions are coming in at the top 5 position for my keyword.

I have a natural and informative style to my writing. Google loves this. Throw in a couple of meta tag tricks and taa daa. SEO friendly content. I no longer have to get all twisted into knots trying to fit into the SEO rules.

I'm not saying SEO rules aren't important. They are. However, it's not as complicated as people try to make it.

I think now is the time to tell about my style of creating SEO friendly content. Watch my WA profile. I'm going to write a post which will detail how I write content. I will try and post all the little things I do to get ranked well in search results.

No amount of expertise or tricks of the trade will guarantee top 10 results all the time. However, if you write several articles that rank well then readers will generally navigate their way to pages that don't rank as well if the keyword has some fierce competition. Not all of my pages rank in the top 10.

Finally, never fear the big guys. Some of my articles rank right up there with the big names in health. Names like a famous hospital, the National Institutes of Health, WebMD, etc. Remember, David did manage to give Goliath a bad hair day.

Keep a look out in my WA profile for my post on how I write content.

p.s. I may not put this article in my regular posts. I may post it in a training. So check my WA profile trainings. I haven't decided where I will put my article.

Reply
grampamike Premium
Hi Brenda, sometimes it takes a little time to get comfortable with writing. Soon you will find your voice and then look out world! Brenda is coming!

If I may, here is the latest training I made on writing content and articles; I'm no genius at writing articles. I just write about what comes to mind. I write in a natural style as if I'm talking to someone in my room. Of all the darned things, Google loves it.

Once I get going then the words just flow. Sometimes the words flow so much that I end up with really big articles.

You and I are in our 60s and we have seen a lot in our time. I think once you get started writing then you will find you had a hidden writer in you after all.

Yep, getting to number one is possible with your keywords too. Or at least in the top 10.

Good SEO. I'm using Yoast SEO. It monitors what I write to make sure everything is search engine friendly. It won't let me forget inserting quality meta tags. Pretty cool plug in.

Keep you site zippy with ZenCache. Search engines love fast page loads.

The top recommendation for SEO in 2015 is to have a mobile friendly site. Google gives extra credit for anyone that makes their site mobile friendly.

Using keywords that can compete. My "pacemaker candidate" keyword has given me a number 7 spot on Google for years. Lots of traffic from that web page.

Using WordPress. I had no idea how powerful that platform was until I joined WA. I'm an old school HTML site developer.

Content, content, content, tons of content that has value to readers. Google loves that.

The WA tutorials provide just about everything you need to get in the top 10 in search results.

It can be done.

Which one? I operate several sites. My health site dates back to 2004. The site that went to number one for my keyword was started in April.

My health site was never intended to be a revenue generator. It was strictly for information. The pages have always rated in the top 10 in the search engines for all these years.

I'm in the process of moving the site to WordPress and monetizing the site. The content is there already so it's time to add affiliate links.

Top 10 is such a great achievement. I like to look at the total number of sites that are listed in a Google search. I get great satisfaction when I'm in the top 10 and ahead of say 100,000 or 1,000,000 other sites.

I have been number 7 out of 376,000 other websites for years for the keyword "pacemaker candidate." Feels good to achieve that.

Don't get me started. I could write a book. Gosh, I wish I had just one trick of the trade.

I think having an excellent SEO plug in is crucial. I'm using Yoast SEO because I want full control over the meta tags.

The second crucial thing I do is to speak naturally when composing a post. I take the position of speaking in my posts as if you are standing in the room with me and I'm speaking to you one on one.

The really big thing I do is to provide content which has value to my readers. That's key. Google and the other search engines love valuable content.

Sorry, I couldn't resist giving more than one trick of the trade.
