Jobs that suck

For anyone who read my discussion, I apologize for the copy and paste I am about to do. I didn't have many responses in my discussion. I am hoping this gets more visibility and my discussion just got lost in the mix.

I am building my site around something I think we can all (or at least most of us) relate to, our disdain for our jobs. I ask you to share your bad job stories.

I am trying to build a community based around this. I want a place where we can all anonymously complain about our jobs. Whether it is by sharing direct stories or interacting directly in a forum. For the few of you who I have spoken with, I am sure you see I am outspoken. This site would allow me other interests I have which is sharing my gift for satire (hopefully comical satire). I am issue motivated and I hope this allows me a voice. I want to share stories and have a forum as I said. I also want to put bad job stories in the news and offer op ed as to why our jobs are so bad.

As I said, I want to share stories, offer a forum, make aware jobs out there that are truly horrible, offer stories of horrendous jobs in the news, and offer reasons as to why our jobs are so bad.

I could really use help with your bad job stories. I have quite a few of my own but I will be asking people to share and I hoped WA was the perfect place to start. All stories are welcome. It doesn't matter if you are the employee or the employer and want to share problems you have with partners or employees. I think we are all at WA because there is something about our jobs we dislike. I want to hear about it.

In taking on this endeavor, I have complete respect for privacy. I think it is only smart to maintain anonymity in sharing these things. You never know who could see it and the problems that could cause. My brother is my boss so it is a concern of mine as well. I could understand hesitation in even wanting to share a story publicly here. For that reason, if you have a story you want to share, and I hope you do, please send it to soyouthinkyourjobsucks@gmail.com.

I do hope you all see this as something we can share and are willing to share with me. Please let me know of any questions or suggestions

Sounds like a fun plan! I'm actually really pretty into working for myself - so I never end up with bad job stories, and the few times I've worked for others, I went into it very clear that we're working on my terms :-)
However, I'm sure there are many others who will be super excited with this idea. Nothing better than an anonymous place where one is able to truly vent!
Just curious though if this will have any other purpose than just gossip for the sake of gossip? (I know, I know, it's more than that - it's real therapy, but still...) Will this be a stepping stone sort of thing for you to promote WA as an option for those who are stuck in jobs, kind of giving them a way out? Like you said, at the end of the day, we're all here to make money. How is this going to bring in a passive income for you?
Just something to think about...

It's kind of funny you mention that as I actually have thought about exactly that. Going through the first level of the certification courses, I thought the exact same as you. I thought the idea I had for this site was fun, at least for me, and would possibly be a hobby of sorts. I would start here and make a "money making" site as my second.

I started putting the site together in my head. I have a ton of "bad job" stories in my current job. I was told I could get a raise if I rented my bosses (brother's) house. Stuff like that. That could be my start to content. I thought other people would enjoy sharing such stories which would help me with content.

I thought maybe if I put up a forum at some point, it would give people a way to share their stories directly and interact immediately. That was where the thought of this could be a community came in.

I thought I could have a page where I could list different bad jobs with a description. I really looked at this as entertaining.

I thought I could offer a bad jobs in the news page. This is could be a synopsis or opinion with a link to news stories.

I thought I could have a "why our jobs are so bad" page. This I really see as my blog. I am an opinionated person who is issue motivated. I would enjoy writing this.

With that basic layout, I started thinking on how to monetize the site. I foresaw a few places in the site where I could build lists but it does become what do I do with those lists. Obviously I thought of Adsense and Amazon. I don't think anyone minds things being sold on sites or even sometimes notices the advertising as long as the sole intention of the site is not to just sell something. I found that important in keeping the integrity of a site like mine. I thought I could have a merchandise page where I could sell Amazon products, things like lifestyle books from authors that fit in with my viewpoint. Those also gave me forums to participate in. I also thought I could sell some funny t-shirts from somewhere like CafePress. Things like "I bet my job sucks worse than yours" shirts. I wasn't sure how much all this would bring in but I thought it was a start.

From there, I thought about going back to make a WA affiliate site and going through the boot camp. After a few long, late-night walks though, I started thinking that people who were in a community like mine might be interested in something new as opposed to the jobs they were there "gossiping" about. I thought I would title a page "My One Shameless Schlep". In that, as opposed to selling WA per say, I would offer it as a this is the reason this site is here and focus on the community aspect of WA. I would give a link to check it out or have a place to ask for an honest review, with both the good and bad point of view. This could build me an entirely new list that I might have a little more freedom with.

Well, that is my rough draft layout. Tell me what you think.

I have seen comments on other sites that come in anonymous.

I like the concept. My suggestion is that you look for a plugin that will let people post their own blog on your site so they can rant. Make rules that no one is to use any names or business so that individual or individuals involved get hurt or in trouble. I would definitely look at the legalities of this so you don't open yourself to being sued. I would definitely make stringent rules and review all posts by your visitors before accepting.
With all that said, I do know of a possible plugin called "Buddy Press" that might help.
I hope this helped,
Dave

Definitely helped. I was thinking things quite similar in terms of privacy. Appreciate the direction. At this point, I am still building the site and was asking people here for stories to help with the content. Thanks again though for all the help!!!!!!!
