The 8020 Principle, Blog Posting Frequency, And Becoming A Hermit

While checking my site, I noticed that in the Site Health, the number concerned with blog posting frequency has gone down a bit from 100%, now at 70%.

From every other day blog posting, to now "just weekly".

Then here, inside Wealthy Affiliate, rank slipped from 39 to 47.

The reason for all these is, I got too many visitors to entertain. Friends, relatives, family members, etc.. In this summer season of the Philippines, most people are in a holiday, vacationing. Perfect time for the beach, and for family gathering.

This got me into a challenging position of how to insert my tasks as an online entrepreneur. There's very little time remaining for topic research, keyword research, content creation, and community participation here in Wealthy Affiliate.

No wonder why only few are choosing this path, the road less traveled.

It seems like, if it weren't for very strong reasons, one would not really choose to become an affiliate or a blogger because, the life that we have here is so much different from what most people have out there.

When I excuse myself out of a conversation with a family member or a friend because, in my mind, I have to write new content or do a keyword research, they find me a little bit weird.

"Oh come on, we're not done yet."

"Forget about that blogging thing and let's just enjoy life."

Sometimes, I think maybe those very successful bloggers out there, ultra successful affiliate marketers out there, when they were just starting out, or some time in their lives, they lived like a hermit.

Some kind of "anti-social" living, where all you do is sit in front of your computer, make a keyword research and push out content.

In the words of a home business trainer friend, "You sometimes have to live like an abnormal person to generate abnormally big income."

But really?

Be among the 20% who enjoys 80% of the world's income by doing abnormal things the 80% of the population aren't willing to do.

Is this what they call "delayed gratification"?

I know some of you may not like this revelation of the reality, but it's the reality, you know. Or, maybe just my reality? lol

As an affiliate working the WA Affiliate Bootcamp, I now have the hint who to look for, who to recruit...

...I'm gonna recruit those who are just like me! Or, those who are at least willing to do the extraordinary.

Not the masses whose want in life is just "drink and be merry".

Don't try recruit them because, maybe you will succeed recruiting them inside here, but mind you, once inside they'll just complain. They'll say, "Sucks, this is not for me."

This got me into a realization that we do not have to try recruit everyone.

Just look for those in the top 20% of the population willing to do the tasks 80% of the population don't like doing---keyword research, blogging, and commenting.

(Or some of them will be forced to do it, when they lost their job, or suddenly need big money for an emergency)

But by design, there's 20%, and there's 80%. Just go for the 20%.

When you understand this, that the task we have here as Bootcamp affiliates, is "to look for people who are just like us", the rest will be easy.

I hope you find my "reflections" of my current situation helpful and motivating.

P.S. Just look for those who are just like you. ;)

"Forget about that blogging thing and let's just enjoy life?" I guess they don't get it, Coach. They think yours is the kind of work they consider work, which is probably tedious & unrewarding. But when we - us Internet marketers - sit down behind a computer it's not tedious and unrewarding. It's fun!

Yeah. I agree with you. It's fun, especially if what your doing is related to your passion! :)

Hello Gomer,
the 80/20 is all very good but what about the big movers in the 80% of the population.
You have to work to get to the 20% but you don't start off there. If you did the rankings in WA would be completely static. We have to build our way to the higher rankings so by only aiming at the top 20% you could be missing a big earner e=who hasn't got there yet

Derek

Many people they want earn but they don't want to exert effort, they love easy money contented to be advertiser which they can do both advertiser/publisher. They don't want spending money for learning, I don't care they call me ambitious for joining WEALTHY Affiliate where elite marketers dwell, I love to be with those people have positive Insights rather than those complainers, and Lazy. No limit for learning, spent a little money learn more, that's what I want even Less money in my pocket.

Great advice. We spend a lot of time researching and writing but are we targeting the right people. Maybe we need to not make it look like it is for everyone and write for those who would be prepared to do the work. The other 80% are not going to stick to it in any case.

You make a good point.

I'm sorta aniti-social by nature, so this is a good fit, lol. I express myself far better via written word, as often my naturally stern-seeming disposition rubs people the wrong way. That and I'm prone to telling like it is, let the chips fall where they may, I can only do REALITY.

Thanks for the post, Gomer. Just keep your eyes on the prize and when u've got the time, resources, know-how, and money to go where you want, when you want, and how you want (delayed gratification), you'll be able to look up from the screen whilst they're still punching that clock.

Exactly.

Eye on the prize.

Uncommon freedom.

This is so very true. You can see it on Live Chat when the newbies complain about even doing the training! They expect this to be a get rich quick without the work. My attitude is, hey, this may not work out, even for me, but if I find that it's going to take more work than I want to do, then it's my decision to quit WA and let go of the opportunity that is here. So true....

I also feel like a hermit most days. I am here in the house working on my computer for hours and hours each day. I am going to take some time off as the weather gets better to ensure I sit on the deck and go to he gym ocassionally. But I find I'm mosting just sitting here working on WA stuff. I'm going to start outsourcing some content creation once I have additional monthly income coming in regularly. Recently I've tried a couple of writers at fiverr to see if they will work out for later on. -Shirley

Yes, that's another way to deal with it. When we can afford, outsource.

Hey, Gomer! Thank you very much for your perspective. I like the way you present this matter with a very realistic approach! Some time ago I casually read about somebody that wanted to surprise his wife showing her the income he would be earning as an affiliate marketer. It’s the mind set that’s involved. You can’t work at this a couple of hours a week and expect a recurring income. If that gentleman continued to pursue his goal of becoming an affiliate marketer, his wife would surely have to hear about affiliate marketing (due to the long hours he would have to spend in front of the PC) before he could bring home a recurring flow of income.

Classic Gomer, if you look at every one that you know , you would be able to count them on one hand the folks that would and could give affiliate marketing a go, which probably leads onto how do you make the offer attractive to more people and he do you help folks to get on.

Excellent reflections, a real food for thought post thank you.

Great post, success certainly isn’t for everyone and more so people around you don’t take you seriously. It’s everything to do with mindset and my opinion is that you have to be willing to walk alone because you will certainly loose people along the way. I am in that place where I have to choose which direction to take because there is too much distraction from the world around me.
Thanks for sharing
Lilian
