Prescribed To Eat Lizzards!

You would not believe this, that amidst all these advancements in technology, there are still parts of the world where quack doctors still roam.

While sitting in a local village meeting here in our place, a rural province south of Manila, Philippines... I confided to friends who were seated beside me that I am suffering from severe muscle twitching with my left eye lid.

It's already injuring the eye---involuntary movement of the eye lid muscle.

A quack doctor overheard our discussion and chipped in...

"That's air trapped in your eye lid. Or, wind. What you need to do is, rub it with Ginger and it will go away. Or, if you want to.. Try eat some lizzards, very good remedy for that."

My friends nodded in agreement.

"What??? Eat some lizards?", I can't take what she just said.

Being an educated man (I studied BS Pharmacy in Manila), I can't believe what I heard from her (the quack doctor). And she's being listened to by my fellow villagers!

I then responded...

"If this is wind or air trapped in the muscles, with my electric fan placed on my right, then why is the twitching happening only on the left eye lid?"

"Also, is my right ear the one supposed to twitch because it's the one being hit directly by the wind coming from the fan?"

They just laughed.

When I got home, I searched on Google. I learned there are many reasons for muscle twitching, like over-consumption of caffeine, stress, and overwork.

Now, imagine if I am not empowered with knowledge or wisdom? Then I might just heed quack doctor's advice?

OMG.

Take care of your health my friends.

Avoid working too much online, and also, drink (coffee) moderately.

Hey Gomer, if you believe it then it's true for you, so just as well you didn't eat any lizards... you didn't did you?? LOL

Some people still won't embrace knowledge even if it is free, which is sad.

Well, good advice about health - it is important to take care... this is something you can't buy

That’s interesting Coach. Sometimes I think some of the homeopathic doctors in Canada are not much better..
Trevor

LOL, I remember the quack doctors in the Phils. I lived in Davao City for several years and I heard a lot of remedies even love potions... very funny.

But your point is correct, we should take care of our health as we spend a lot of time on the internet doing what we do. Sometimes I will sit for hours without taking a proper break for exercise and rest.

Oh, glad to hear that yo lived here some time. Maybe you should visit us again. Great deals for you dollars, as Peso again has been de-valuated against the dollar.

With the health problem that I am experiencing right now, I learned that when you start feeling something isn't right, stand up and walk away from your computer. Take a rest. Take a break.

Twitching and pains, usually are mechanisms of our body telling us something isn't right. We should not mute them.

I was over there again for a couple of month's last year visiting friends and family.
Thank you for reminding us to pay attention to our bodies, I really need that.

Hey, there are many Quack Doctors, even here in the states. One almost killed me by giving me pills that had my heart slowed way down. My wife, a nurse finally figured out what was happening and I changed Doctors and I am still kicking.

I think we can certainly avoid working too much online, personally I use the old pen and paper method when developing ideas (considering the environment, on a recycled paper or re-using pages from a previous project and so on). Green tea can be a great alternative to coffee.
Thanks for sharing this article, it is always nice to learn something new :)

Interesting Gom thanks!

Avoid working online to much and avoid drinking to much coffee. Certainly working online goes hand in hand with what we are doing.

There are plenty of lizards running around me but I hadn’t thought of using them for my eye strain?

Have a great day!

Wayne

Hey Gomer.I am a pharmacist too! Cool.Have you tried vitamin B.Sometimes it can be as a result of involuntary nerve transmission.

Oh, good to know that.

My multivitamins + minerals tablet (Centrum) contains B-vitamins too. I think, it's in the coffee or too much eye strain with my computer that's causing the twitching.

Or, perhaps, I should go for a one with a higher concentration of B-vitamins than Centrum have.

Yeah. Not sure in your country if there is a preparation called Neurobion.Give it a go.

Oh, there is!

I will give it a try. Thanks!

No probs

Good reminder. Fried raw coffee is better than three in one.

That reminds me of Kapeng Sinangag.

I'm slowing down on coffee now.

I hope you have the strong determination to slow down on coffee because it possesses something that seems to be irresistible.

I'm average 2 cups now, instead of 6 cups.
