I'm Taking A Break, Stepping Down, To Rethink My Strategy

Some of you may already knew me. I'm that MLM guy who transferred all my energies to here (even encouraged my MLM friends to transfer theirs to here).

In times of troubles, I was one of the persons here who like encouraging others to go on, have patience, and keep moving.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

I even shared my joy about receiving commissions from other companies for a site that is hosted here...

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

As a good recruiter for MLM companies, I tried doing the same for Wealthy Affiliate. I was referring an average of 2 to 3 people (sometimes 4, sometimes 6) in a day.

Since my site promoting WA Affiliate Bootcamp is still new, not yet seen in the top of the search engines, I relied mainly on social media traffic.

I put my belief in that strategy, although some big guys here suggested that to get high quality referrals for the Bootcamp, we should be thorough in our explanation of WA, like those 3,000-words review articles of our Vegas boys here.

I was planning to do the same in the future, maybe even longer like 5,000 words to make sure that I have explained thoroughly what is Wealthy Affiliate, to my referrals.

But temporarily, I have put my faith in what Kyle has said, that even with a simple blog post of our fellow members here, if we click on the "Affiliate Link" button right below the post title, we can generate referrals and be credited as a referring person.

So, putting my faith on that, I promoted in the social media industriously as a farm man working his field 23 hours a day.

But then, I got so disappointed when all I got was a long list of inactive referrals. I got several others setting up their profiles, but they eventually left this place for unknown reason.

The sad thing is, I can't contact them to ask, "Hey, what's wrong? How can I help you?", for there's no "private message" button to contact them (and I guess, they can't also send me private message, as there's no button for them to send a message).

Seeing how hard it is for an experienced marketer like me, I got too concerned with the beginners, who are not as determined as me. If that's hard for me, then how much will it be for the beginners? That got me worried.

So, thinking "communication system" is the problem, I started this thread here...

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

After a long debate with other members, I still have the questions...

"Where did I go wrong?"

"Are my efforts not enough?"

"If this is this hard for a Ambassador, if this is this hard for a 23/7 hard worker, then how much (harder) will this be for a beginner?"

Then the words of the Vegas boys still ringing in my mind...

"This works, you just have to be thorough with your explanation in your reviews"...

But how about those tips by Kyle that by simply converting a community post in here and making it an affiliate link you can be credited for referrals... are the sign up pages of WA not enough? Or, not good?

That you have to create 3,000 words thorough article (aside from the given sign up page that already explained what is WA)?

Shaking my head, it froze me.

I even thought of converting my blog promoting WA Affiliate Bootcamp...

gomermagtibay.com

...into just a blog promoting vitamins and antioxidants.

But the thought that all the previous efforts will go to waste and will make me restart back at zero, I got so confused.

If I just blog about health for Adsense, and do MLM with my blog at speedymlm.com, what happen to my earlier declaration in Facebook that I want to go to Vegas too with Wealthy Affiliate?

I can't stop.

But I can't move forward either.

Realizing that, the solution for this is to really have a close relationship with every referral in WA Bootcamp, maybe I need to start a cult first, and hypnotize the cult members to join WA. In that way, I will have full control of my referrals. (*kidding*)

Or, maybe, the most realistic solution is, to have all my prospects come through a list building system first, before I finally introduce them to WA. By putting them on my email list first, I will be able to establish effective communication lines with them first, so by the time they get to here and leave, I can ask them "Why are you leaving your profile in WA? What's wrong?"

(With the set up right now in WA, not possible, no PM button)

Or, I will just focus building my team in MLM and if a downline member ask me, "Hey upline, should I go into blogging? What host do you recommend?"...

...I will proudly recommend, "Join WA, their hosting is great." (But don't recruit people in there, they will cuss you out)

With all these, I feel like maybe I need to pause for a while.

I will step down from being an Ambassador (as I no longer deserve this title for sounding negative here), and rethink my strategy.

I still like the WA Affiliate Bootcamp, much more the Getting Started Lessons, and the people in this community.

It's just that I am starting to get uneasy when I feel I am not in control of things, when I am not in control of my future, of my goals.

Remember? To be successful, we must set SMART goals!

Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, and with TIME-TABLE.

Talking about TIME-TABLE OR TIME BOUND, you must set a specific date when will you gonna hit that goal.

I just feel that, with just staring at a list of almost 100 inactive referrals praying "Oh, God, please, touch their heart and make them upgrade to premium...", that's not setting SMART goals. You're just wishing, hoping, and can't do something to hasten the attainment of goal.

Some of you may object, "Who knows, after 2 years, they upgrade to premium?". But how is that with setting SMART goals? The "T" in SMART goals. Setting specific date when will you achieve the goal. How is that with hoping for 1 or 2 years?

Perhaps, if I am "in touch" with my referrals via an email list, then I will have more control of my business.

So, is list building the solution?

We'll see...

I hope the ALMIGHTY GOD enlighten me in these things so I can choose the best actions for these.

Farewell for now, my friends. Let's hope I can find a good solution for this so we can see each other again here in WA.

I most certainly felt like giving up many a time. My limited beliefs told me I cant. make it. I am still here and I won't quit.

YOU NO QUITTER - YOU HAVE INSPIRED A LOT OF PEOPLE

Here is a story by Napoleon Hill - THREE FEET FROM GOLD

In his all-time classic book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill tells the story of R. U. Harby.

Harby’s uncle had gold fever, so he staked his claim and started digging. After a lot of hard work, the uncle found a vein of ore, so he covered up his find and returned home to raise the money for the machinery that he would need to bring the ore to the surface.

They raised the money and Darby traveled with his uncle back to the site to make their fortune.

Things started well and before long, they had enough to clear their debts. They were excited, everything from here on would be profit and things were looking good.

Then the supply of gold stopped. The vein of ore had disappeared. They kept on digging but found nothing.

After a while, they quit in frustration and sold their machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars.

After they went home in disappointment, the astute junk man called in a mining engineer who checked the mine and calculated that there was a vein of gold just three feet from where Darby and his uncle had stopped digging.

The junk man went on to make millions from the mine.

Darby returned home, paid back everyone who had lent him money and was determined to learn from his mistake in giving up too soon.

He went on to become a phenomenally successful insurance salesman, more than recouping what he would have made from the gold mine.

He learned the lesson that you need to persevere through difficulties and stay focused if you are to become successful.

Whenever you feel like giving up on your dream, remember that you may be just three feet from gold!

Hi Gomer, you know me and you know that I like your posts very much. You also helped a lot already and you made me smile with some of your sayings.

I really don't know if it will help you, but I have 122 inactive referrals. Some of them posted their pictures and goals, so I got 44 credits/$21.00. I can't even use this because none of them converted, not even one. (Because of WA conversion rate policy)

I was so excited and happy at first, but as time went by it turned to sad disappointment. But I'm still here.

However, I agree with you about list building.

Do what you have to do, but don't give up.

Take care
Nick

Hi, Gomer. Like so many others who have commented on your post, I hate to see you go, but understand your need to re-think things. In reading your posts about the situation, I did not feel that you were being negative, just asking for help.

You are very encouraging and uplifting, and I will miss that and your sense of humor.

I thought one of the things you discussed, getting people's email addresses is a good idea and a good way to build trust. I haven't learned to do it yet, but plan to have a sign up list for a newsletter on my ballroom dancing site.

Just as we learn to know each other online in this community, you'll be able to do the same thing with the people on your email list. You'll get to know them, build a trusting relationship, and some of them might be interested in WA. But don't be down on yourself if you make friends with some of the people on your list who aren't interested. Some people just don't have the drive and determination that you do. And that's not your fault.

I agree with the people who suggested you try building a niche website and focus on learning to do that. I haven't done the bootcamp because I'm still taking the certification course, so I don't know how that differs from what I've been learning, but I think with your ability to connect with people and your drive that you could write a very interesting niche site. It won't produce income overnight, but maybe a change of pace and "scenery" would be helpful to you right now.

Be well, my friend, and keep in touch if you're so inclined. We all care about you; you're a part of us.

Carol

PS Sorry for writing a post! Hadn't intended to get so wordy!

All good points Gomer and I definitely agree with you that there is no real direct way to reach out to referrals, other than posting to their profiles, to ask if they need help.

But like I have been telling new members of WA lately, really put thought into finding a niche and do not be so quick to join Bootcamp to promote WA.

The MMO, Make Money Online niche is a very competitive niche. If you do not have the experience in how to make money online in affiliate marketing, promoting WA effectively will be difficult.

This is why I encourage people to do the Certification Course first before doing Bootcamp. This is what I have done, as well as many other successful Bootcampers, and it really helped me. You need to do what you feel is right for you. We all can only give you guidance but it all comes down to you. It is your choice. Many times taking a break or even temporarily changing course is a good thing.

All the Best!

That's really frustrating if you know you have referred several people then after a sign-up they are found nowhere.
But definitely, they should be included in your list of referrals under your name.

Me, I have had my referrals list under my account and I know most of them that they did not continue so I don't feel frustrated. I only have one who sign-up and I don't know what is happening to that person.

Secondly, you should have received a notice from Kyle that you have referrals who have sign-up and you'll have $.50 each.

Hi Gomer, I am afraid I have not read any of your works as I am new to here.
But your situation reminds me of a story told by Napoleon hill in his book think and grow rich.
A gold prospector borrowed money and bought a mine he spent months digging spent all his money and ended up selling the mine to another guy.
The other guy dug for a week and found the richest vein of gold in the state.
It looks like you have done a lot of digging. If I were you I would dig on.

Hey Gom, I believe, had a meeting/talk with a local priest today, that you just OVER think it.
You are trying to find a mistake in your approach that is not a mistake at all...JUST people who are simply NOT ready to join WA!
For everybody its the timing that is crucial!
How long have you been doing this? 1 year or more/or less?

So it takes TIME to build that TRUST...remember?
I can go on and on and on...but it comes down to this:
SLOW down my man! Your going 100 miles per hour! Not good.

Any questions? I have been in sales for 25 years...
PM me if you like...
Tom

I will be sorry to see you go. I understand what you are saying. I have had no sign ups other than my Mom and my husband's best friend! I am very glad I started with a niche site so that I didn't feel so pressured to get WA sign ups. However, I still don't make much even though I get quite a few sales. They are on Amazon so they are small.

Personally I think it is easier to get referrals since I already have a #1 rated website on Google so I have "proof" that WA works.

Would you consider focusing on a niche site for awhile?

I am now starting my second niche site and only promote WA on the side.

Good luck in whatever you do!
Jessica

Well, Coach, if an experienced person as you can get frustrated, just imagine the scores of other members (including myself) who's just stepped into this internet marketing world. I cannot comment on your stepping down as an Ambassador as that looks like a highly respectable and responsible position but I will say that one needs to constantly reinvent oneself and rethink the strategies to be in the game. I always love your attitude, and you are already an inspirational figure here in WA. I have learned that success in internet marketing takes a long time for most people and especially, if it is the kind of success I'm thinking of. So, whenever someone says "See, I'm earning 4K from the 6th month!", I always take it with a pinch of salt because at the back of my mind I'm thinking "Is that a regular income or is it something that happens at random?" I have set up my own goals and have given myself a long rope. I will keep on reinventing myself to the changing times. My immediate aim is to learn the art of writing engaging content. I'm still far from reaching that. But try I will.

Easy does, It! Do the next right thing...good will, follow!
Patience is my friend.
Barb

Great thoughts Gomer. I am a top 1% earner in MLM and have been since 2004. I have learned this: Affiliate Marketing is NOT MLM and MLM is NOT Affiliate Marketing. Only the work ethic is the same for both (as it is in any business).

When I first started in MLM I was told "forget everything you already know and just follow the system" .. I did that and it took 8 years to get to the top 1%.

My thinking is that it is the same with Affiliate Marketing .. forget everything you already know and follow what the successful people do and teach. And it takes time.

All the best in the choices you make. Cheers, William.
