Guess What I Did

I had planned to list a list of things I've done or accomplished recently, but as I sat down to write, I thought better of it. Better to hit the highlights.

As I've written about before, I retired in November 2018 to be able to help with family matters. I didn't really want to retire, but there are times when circumstance dictates our actions. Prior to retirement, I had the good fortune to be able to work from home. The problem with working from home is that I was in the office at least 10 hours a day 5 days a week. In those days, I was living alone as Wifey hadn't yet moved in. Guess I was sort of social distancing before any of us had heard the term.

Wifey has since moved in and life now is so much better. Though we aren't legally married yet, we consider ourselves as husband and wife. We had plans to wed in June of this year, but that has changed. We're expecting a few family members to come from out of state. Not very doable in these days. No worries, we'll plan another date.

Going back to the social distancing thing. Wifey still works, she tells me that she isn't quite ready to retire. I on the other hand, am retired, but working here to build my business. A few months ago, I began to get a little antsy being caged in.

So, guess what I did. I went out and got a job. Part time mind you, and only a few hours a week. We have a small hardware store in our little town, and I know most of the folks working there. Long story short, I went back to work.

It feels great to be back in touch with people. I'm having a ball. I didn't realize just how withdrawn I'd become over the last few years. So I do my little job, I mix and mingle and earn a few bucks (very few) on the side. Wifey likes the change she's seen in me. And don't worry folks, we all take precautions and wear masks.

So thats it? You went back to work?

No my friends. Now for the big reveal.

Over the last few weeks/months, I've been involved in conversations here about podcasting, and began to take an interest in it. I know that there are many folks here in WA who have created an online presence on YouTube and other venues, but thats not quite my style. At least not yet.

I reached out to a few members privately and asked if they would be interested in listening to a demo podcast and give their feed back. I also asked this outside of WA to get more of a sampling. All those I asked to participate were glad to listen, so I created this demo and sent it out.

I recently told Twack that I've got a face that only radio could love, and a voice that no one could love. Twack said similar things about his own voice. In reality, we all tend to be our own worst critics.

So now the feedback started coming in. I was surprised and happy to hear positive reviews. Not a one was negative. I heard terms like friendly, comfortable, nice voice, having a fun conversation, and other such comments. I also heard that there were too many umm's and ahh's. I knew this, and know thats something I need to work on. As I settle in, that will go away I'm sure. A bit of a nervous tick.

Thank you to all who have participated in my debut. It was a learning experience, and thanks to all for giving me the courage to move on.

I'm pleased to announce that I have created my podcast presence and posted publicly for the first time. Quite a nerve wracking experience.

WA is such a wonderful community. Reach out for help and you get help. Our whole community is ready to lend a hand. Everyone here wants to succeed and also to see others succeed. Never be shy or think your questions or ideas are stupid, because they're not.

Thank you my friends for your continued support

Greg, you are a star! Honestly, it's big step and you can be proud of yourself and should celebrate.
The colour of your voice is very nice and you sound calm. Me, I don't mind some umms if it's not too often and the fact that I didn't notice any means they are not often.
I believe there will be many podcasts you'll make from now on and people will love them.

Awe . . . . Gee Wiz. Blush. thank you Lenka

Greg

Congratulations on a big achievement

Thank you Lisa

Greg

It's a great achievement Greg. It takes a lot to get outside of your comfort zone and put yourself out there.
Kudos to you for getting up on the stage and actually doing it. Brilliant.

Thank you my friend

Greg

Very welcome.

That's quite a bit step, one I have been thinking about as well.
Congratulations!

Thank you so much.

Greg

Great. Do you have it on your blog. I know an easy way to put a graphic on it

No I don't Neil, not yet at any rate. I would be interested to learn your way of adding a graphic to it

Me too please😜

Depends on where the actually blog is hosted. I'm going to make one and put it on my free Soundcloud account. Find a picture you like and upload it to one of the free meme makers. Put your own words in it. Maybe the name of your podcast of something.

Then you can upload the audio to Soundcloud and it will then give you the option of uploading your graphic.. If you link it to your blog to graphic will show on the page. This in one of my brother's songs on Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/ralph-goodson/low-water-bridge-monday-lisa-m01-mp3

I don't know it it will show up in this post. It didn;'t in my WA blog but this is it from my siterubix test site

https://roadtoriches.siterubix.com/gutenberg-editor/

He didn't put any writing on it but you can on a free meme maker site

I just found out it looks better if you link directly to soundcloud

Thanks Neil, I''l be sure to look into it.
