Went Fishing Yesterday

An old friend contacted me yesterday, Walter is his name. Walter said to me, bout time to get out, lets go fishing. And so I went. Alone. With Walter. Huh?? Walter is kind of an alter ego, some of you might know him. Anyway, I went. And what an amazing day I had.

Views on Fishing

My brother and I used to go fishing at Santa Cruz back in the day. Santa Cruz, California for those not familiar with it. It was always fun times, and with a good catch, good food as well. As we grew older our views diverged a little. Mike never really liked fish, so he would catch and release. I, on the other hand, love almost all fish, except fresh water fish. Mike went on to become an excellent fisherman in the lakes, rivers and streams up here in northern Nevada, and spent most of his time in this delight of his. I, on the other hand, drifted away from fishing all together as I'm not a fan of catch and release. Mikes gone now, but the memories of time with him are ever present.

But, is it Fishing?

I have an old and reel that my son gave me years ago. I checked its functionality, oiled it a little, grabbed a large nut and bolt, and headed for this little out of the way place I know which hardly anyone goes to. Seems, the fishing there is quite poor. No worries.

I brought a sun shade as it was supposed to be sunny with a high about 89 (about 32.5C), a cooler with some iced tea, a lawn chair and a pad and pen. Turned out, the forecast was wrong. It was partly cloudy with a high closer to 80 (about 27.3C), and quite pleasant.

Anyway, after setting things up, I tied my nut/bolt rig to the line, cast it out, sat in the chair and just relaxed. The question came to me, is this fishing? I had no hook on the line, no gear, no tackle box, net or other accouterments. So is this really fishing? For me, in the desert? Yes.

Reflection, Thoughts and the Pad and Pen

As I sat in my little chair sipping some tea, I began to reflect on where I've come with my business and also where I want to go. I've mentioned before that my niche was not the best, and with all thats going on around us, probably not the right time for it. I've been working on ideas for a second go, and I needed this day away from the old computer to gather my thoughts, and hence, the pad and pen.

It's not a bad thing to admit when you've taken a wrong path. The thing is to own it, and move on. I took the time to write down my ideas, sketch out a new path and create a business plan which is more viable. I filled a good many pages on that pad yesterday, and now, it's time to start creating on a clean slate.

Reboot

Time to reboot and go back through the training. Thats one of the many beautiful things in WA, we always have great resources and great folks to help us along the way.

Have a wonderful day my friends. Oh, in case you were curios, nope, didn't catch a thing.

Greg, I could live on seafood. I love it. That's why for me, the lazy fisher person, God created fish shops.
Have a great day
Stephen.

Wifey's family lives in a small coastal town in northern CA and we make the trek to visit as often as possible. Love going. Walking the pier and buying direct off the returning fishing boats is a fish lovers dream. Prices are lower than you could imagine. I once bought 4 huge dungeness crab for the meager price of $32.

I always have this discussion with myself. If I had to make a choice between meat or seafood to live on, and I enjoy both, seafood would win.
Greg, have a great day
Stephen

Hi Stephan. Not sure if I could make a decision between meat or seafood. Happily though, I'm a regular consumer of both. lol

Glad you didn't have to release that nut an bolt Greg, sounded like keepers. I am also glad to read you had a day to plan to reuse some of the best parts of WA.

Joe

Yeah Joe, fresh air, line in the water and a mind cleanse. Fishing ain't always about catching.
