Quick question if you know.
I have to contact my paid theme developer, and they want to know the name of my hosting company - do you know? I know it wouldn't be called W
Hey Joanne,
Why would ANY theme developer need to know the NAME of your hosting company?
Sounds very suspicious to me ... unless you've misunderstood what they are asking for.
Might theme developer have asked you for your WP login or FTP access information?
It's typical for them to ask. If they are going to help me solve my problem they will need that and more!
There is a problem with an image basic to the theme that I think got deleted, and it's preventing my SSL on the front page.
Turning gray quickly - but all will get fixed sooner or later.
Right now, I'm in "limbo".
I'm surprised it's not called WA Hosting because that's what the DNS info is:
Primary: ns1.mywahosting.com
Secondary: ns2.mywahosting.com
I used that to point my site to WA when 1&1 hosted, but last week I actually moved the site to WA in it's entirety.
I think they use the Amazon service for things Geoff, but can't remember specifically. But hosting is ENOM.
Not really sure how ENOM and Amazon Web Services actually work together though Marcus. I know WA uses it, but I'm clueless.
Positive Marcus!
Did the "look-up" myself, and also heard back from Support as well. ENOM it is!
@Gmegs: I saw Enom mentioned when I did a lookup, but somehow didn't believe it because I thought they used AWS. I wondered if maybe it was just a random word someone put in there, like "Glubble" or "Flobber".
@Stadnykgeoff: Just testing you, honest! ;-)
@Loes: Yes you were. Pat yourself of the back and give yourself a handshake ;-)

How do you put line breaks in excerpts? Nothing seems to work well except H tags - don't really want to do that, but ....
I'm referring to the excerpt in the blogroll, which lists a certain number of posts with a small description. In my theme, I can make those whatever I want. It has an editor, but line breaks don't "stick".
Thanks John -
I am using the Excerpt function without problem. On WIN machine, try
Shift (hold down) and Enter, maybe that will work (like in old WYSIWEG editors)
No, that doesn't work - nothing does except H tags. So maybe I'll just use H3 - see photo.
I don't think there is another way.
I assume this is about true excerpt box which some themes have (many do not). It seems this is not possible. The only thing that comes into mind is the idea that it is supposed to be just a sentence or two so there should be no paragraphs or such stuff in any case.
I have this feature only in one out of four themes I use, but I never use it. I make it by using 'read more' and with meta description for Google.
Perhaps you may find more in the training by Labman, I know for sure he has one.
Hi Jovo!
Right - I'll have to rethink. The one thing I'm certain of is making it consistent throughout - it looks pretty good though when it works.
Thanks as always! ... your friend

I want to allow someone who comments regularly on my site to be able to have their comments show without going thru moderation.
Is there a way to do this without another
Hi Harvey!
Right now I have them set as an "Author" because they contribute to the site, but I don't want to necessarily let them into the back-end of Wordpress.
I don't think author or subscriber allows them into the backend. I take that back, author might because they have to publish, I believe, but subscriber may not. Something to checkout definitely.
Thanks Harvey - I'll have to read up on all the user options - another thing on my long list - hahaha
Go into your Discussion settings on your site dashboard. Then unclick the before a discussion appears. This should do it. Check the other settings under that area and make sure that they are all set to what you want as well. It should allow anyone to comment on your site at any time without your permission.
I think you've misunderstood.
I want only one (1) commentor to be able to leave a comment without moderation.
Thanks though!
Oh, sorry. I thought you wanted to know if once they subscribed to be able to post without you having to monitor it. I did not realize you were talking about only one person. Sorry. There may be something in the settings to do this, however, I am not sure.

Anyone know how to rearrange comments in WordPress.
My settings are correct, but they will not display newest to oldest - they always show oldest first n
There is an option in Settings -> Discussion where you can change the order of comments from oldest to newest first, but it does not work.
Hi Joanne, I did it in Settings as Vetinari says, and I understand you can find it but it is not kept by the system. Very strange, I am commenting to follow the discussion.
Hey Jovo - yeah, I have no clue why it doesn't work. I really don't like to get into code but may be forced to. aargh!
If you change something in the code it may vanish after updates.
Having the oldest comments on the top really looks bad, strange that such an option exists at all, who would ever need this.
I assume you have done Settings » Discussion. Under the Other comment settings, you will find the option, Comments should be displayed with the older comments at the top of each page. Click on the drop down menu and select Newer. After that, you need to click on the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page to store your settings.
If you have the other way is to edit the functions.php file and add to it:
function wpb_reverse_comments($comments) {
return array_reverse($comments);
}
add_filter ('comments_array', 'wpb_reverse_comments');
Thanks so much!
I'll have to get into the php
... do you have a clue as to why the setting won't take care of the problem?
... and where exactly do you put that within the php?
Are you replacing or just adding that code?
Hey honey, did you get sorted :-)) Setting The Order Of Your Comments this may help if you are not sorted :-)) xoxo to you and yours

So I added a new user who will be a contributing author - I had asked for and received a comment in SiteComments, but it does NOT show on my site.
Does anyone know how to
Joanne, I just recently responded to two comments received through SiteComments. I believe there are three buttons, one is to approve the comment, another is to reject and the third is to approve and comment. I used the third and after I commented there is another button to publish. All that to say did you publish to your site?
I'm very familiar with SiteComments Harvey, but adding a new user isn't working for it. I must be doing something wrong because the bio doesn't show properly either. The bio only shows if you click on the name while in the blog role but not on the article itself.
I see Tim as helped to sort out the problem. My two cents worth was to eliminate the obvious. Sometimes we think we have done something, like click on the post or reply button, but really did not. Glad to see all is well. Cheers
Thank you so much for your help too Harvey!
... it is so appreciated
I need to be more patient!
All comments thru the system are always immediate - but this was not. I had never experienced this before.
Joanne if they left the comment on your site you should be able to see a new comment in the WP Admin dashboard.
NO - it does not show.
They left the comment through the WA SiteComments - and it does not show on the site.
It's an "added user" , with a different email that comes to me.
I receive the comment thru the system here, but it doesn't go thru to my site.
... thank you though
This is the post - added Author - Summer
http://ladiesgolfshoppe.com/why-we-should-teach-our-daughters-to-golf-mothers-daughters-and-golf
Yes, but that was before I "officially" added her as an author.
Things are somehow screwed up. I think I'm going to have to dig into this a little deeper.
ps - thank you for the comment - I'll go see now.
Thanks Tim
YEAH!
Thanks again Tim!
Both comments came through now.
Holy smokes, that had to be the slowest comment to come thru that I have ever experienced!
Because I was adding the "author" I thought I messed it up somehow.
As it turned out, the system was just a bit sluggish recognizing her. It still does not display her bio properly but I'll keep working on it.
Thank you so so much for helping!
