I have done dozens of good looking websites using iWeb. I do not understand how WordPress works at all. I need some major help. I chose a theme, and suddenly my web page is

Yeah, Gloria when you change to a new theme in WordPress and don't have any content on your website (or at least very little) it will look really weird and not like the theme preview at all. The preview just gives you an idea of how the theme can look as you build it out and edit it to look that way.

I recommend you just progress through the training and some of these little things will all fit together and become much clearer.

You can also look up tutorials on the particular theme you have to give you a better understanding of how you can make it look the way the preview does.. but you will need content and pages/posts on the site first.

Thank you, Wendy. I now get it and am enjoying the lessons. What threw me, was when they said your web page is set up after I had just put in the name and hit submit or something. I thought, that is not a web page, just a bunch of gobbley gook, and I panicked, thinking I had missed a whole lot of stuff, because how can it be set up when I only put in the name? I think they should say, 'You have completed the first step toward setting up your web page', not "Your Web page is set up." I guess I had a misunderstanding what "set up" meant. Anyway, all is well. I have calmed down and am enjoying "setting up" my web page.
WA is an amazing programme. Thanks for introducing me to it.

Yeah I totally understand that.. it is kind of misleading. Really what they mean is that your website is "live" as in up and running for the internet, but as far as developed that's another story haha.

I am surprised they make it live before it is developed. What if someone stumbles upon it? In other programs i have used, you work on your site and once it is developed you make it live.

In theory someone could find it but it isn't likely so early on unless you share it publicly on social media or give the link to others.

Search engines take awhile to index new websites and even longer to rank them, so having it live from the start is an advantage because it gives the internet more time to crawl, index and start ranking your website.

Thanks for your reply. It is helpful to understand some of the "behind scenes" scenarios.

Hi Gloria,

I hope this is what you are looking for help with.

Go your activity Dashboard.

Stroll down to Site Rubix, now click on the lite blue area

this will take you to your pages and posts if any.

Now, go to your Word press Dashboard

on your right, click on POSTS, now click on( ADD NEW)

At the top of the page you will see...

ADD NEW PAGE

Now, you can start typing your information here!

NOTE: Make sure to save your work regularly.

Gloria I hope some of this will help!

Good Luck!

Louisa B

Are you following the training step by step?

I thought I was, but maybe I am missing something. When I ask a question, new lessons come up so I will just keep plogging on. Thanks for your help.

There is a lot to learn Gloria. It is better to do the training and assignments and don't jump ahead. It is a proven formula and gets easier as you learn the basics. Do the certification training first and you will see it all come together.
Best wishes
Ben

Thanks, Ben. It felt as if I should know something else before some of the tasks I was to do. For example, I was to pick a theme when I knew nothing about what different themes did and even if I did, I didn't know what kind of a theme I needed. I will work through the lessons and do my best. Thanks.

You can change your theme any time Gloria. Many people go through the training twice and more. It gets easier and quicker every time.
Don't get distracted and be consistent with the training. You will be expert in no time.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I guess I want to know everything all at once. It just feels as if I have to know something before I can start. For example, I just learned there is something called a static home page and a rolling blog. Maybe I should see if there is a glossary so that these terms don't throw me for a loop. Since I don't know what they mean, I don't know what I want. However, I found some answers about the above so I will read up on that. Thanks again.

That will all be covered, Gloria. I cannot stress enough to follow the Certification training especially at first.
Wordpress is so much easier than working with iWeb. You will love it. You will find out about everything in sequence but it is so important to understand the basics step by step as in the training.

I thought I was missing something in the sequence but I will work my way through the Certification training. So many others have done it, and I can too. Thanks.

Oh my gosh!! Thank you JCR3. I didn't realize that Word Press makes blogs. I always thought a blog was different from a proper web page. I thought blogs were something that individuals did to tell people about their hobbies or what they had for supper. Kinda like Facebook. I was wanting to set up a spectacular Home page, with intro, pictures, copy etc, and headings that people could click on to get to other pages, describing my products.
So is the idea of Word Press web page to keep "blogging" about your niche topic? ie. write something once a week about it? What about my home page? Is it all just posting? Sorry to be so dense.
Thank you for the link. It was very clear and now I know how to post.

The structure of your home page is completely up to you. Some just have a blog roll, and others choose to make a static home page. It is really up to you!

And yes you will want to keep writing on your niche regularly to keep ranking for different keywords and getting more and more traffic.

The training does a great job of guiding you through this so I encourage you to continue with each lesson and completing all the tasks.

I'm glad I could help, and if there's ever anything I can help with in the future I would be happy to!

All the best!!

I have only worked with iWeb. Can I change colours, fonts, placement of pictures, etc on Word Press? I am trying to pick a theme and I wish the themes would show up in full p

Hi there, can someone help how to find WA themes for a premium please?

Hi Ben
Once you are a premium member you will have access to all the themes in Wordpress Express.
Just browse until you see one you like and upload it to your own Wordpress and activate.
Robert

Thanks Robert

Yes you can do all that you want with Wordpress but as you might guess, different themes have different functions and might not have what you want to do.

Here's a link to some -

https://en-gb.wordpress.org/themes/

Once you're in Wordpress yes you can search for themes but as a free member your search is limited.

Get back to me if you're still stuck.
(remember the time difference if there is any, I'm UK)
Enjoy your day.
Robert

Thank you, Robert. I am a premium member. I picked one theme but am having huge problems making any changes on it. I will stick with it but I am ready to throw my computer out the window. I am in Ontario, Canada

What changes are you trying to make Gl;oria?

I wanted to change the font and size of my name of the site. I have been sent some lessons on that so I will go through them. I picked an easier theme (GeneratePress) that AngelaHall recommended. I am surprised we are not given more assistance on themes before we have to choose one, when we don't know what the heck we are doing. Thank you for your help.

Hi again Gloria, hope you're well this dull and damp Saturday morning.
If you still need help with your Fonts and Styles you drop me a PM.
Anything else I can help you with?
Robert

you can go to https://wordpress.org/themes/ and filter your search results by feature. all themes on that site are free.
GeneratePress is a pretty good theme and easy to customize if you want to give it a try.

Thank you. I will check out GeneratePress. I chose one but am having difficulty making any changes.

Thanks, Angela. The GneratePress seems easier. I will learn this hook or by crook.

happy to help - I've been through my fair share of themes lol
I use that theme on 2 of my sites so if you have any questions, feel free to message me :)

Would you send me a link to one of your web pages. I would love to see a finished product. If you don't mind. thank yo.

sure, I"m afraid one is a membership site so you wouldn't be able to see much. This one I'm going to show you is fairly new. It's a test case study we are doing for adsense http://diyhomeremedy.com/

Thank you LouisaB for your precise directions. I followed them and they took me to the same page as I have been on where there is no place to click for yearly. It is only the monthly membership that is designated.

Hi, again if you upgrade to premium then it should ask you about yearly and will deduct the amount but you have to first be a premium member. Yes, confusing didn't know you couldn't just go to yearly but you will not pay extra join premium and then you should get an email about going yearly.

Do you see the red button on the left that says upgrade to yearly? Press that and just go from there. Congrats and much success to you here at WA :)

Thank you for such a prompt reply. I don't see a red button on this page, but I sure I will find it somewhere.

The red button should be underneath where it says "Affiliate Bootcamp" in the column to your left. It should say "Upgrade to Yearly" or something similar. Hope that helps :)

Oh, Gloria if you are not a premium member then it will probably say upgrade to premium, press that and then it should tell you about yearly as well. I hope that helps :)

I have found where to upgrade to premium but there is no place to click for yearly. It is only the monthly membership that is designated.

There is no red button on my Mac computer screen but I found the page where to upgrade to premium but there is no place to click for yearly. It is only the monthly membership that is designated.
