Here are suggested sizes (by pixel):

Facebook Post - 940x788
Facebook Cover - 851x315
Facebook Ad - 1200x628
Google+ Post - 1080x1080
Google+ Cover - 2120x1192
Instagram Post - 1080x1080
Instagram Image thumbnail - 161 x 161
LinkedIn Post - 1400x800
Pinterest Post - 735x1102
Twitter Header - 1500x500
Twitter Ad - 1024x512
Twitter Lead Card - 1600-x400
Twitter Website Card - 1600x640
Twitter Post - 1024x512
WordPress Featured Image - 1200x600
WordPress Image - 750x750
YouTube Thumbnail - 1280x720
YouTube Display Ad 1 -300x60
YouTube Display Ad 2 - 300x250
YouTube Overlay Ad - 480x70

You are welcome, Terry. I finally put this list together of all the common sizes. It seemed like I was always hunting down the correct size of images (mostly for social media like Facebook and Pinterest)

I usually go for the 150 x 150. size,

I used to guess at the sizes. I got some interesting results that told me I should use the right size. (My Facebook fan page and well as a website header)
