Inertia And How It Affects Us

Inertia is one of Newton's three laws of motion that states that an object at rest will remain at rest until a force is applied to it to cause it to move, and an object in motion at a constant rate will remain in motion at that rate until a force acts upon it to stop it, slow it, or accelerate it.

How does this apply to our businesses?

Well, right now I'm fighting to get back in motion. I allowed myself to come to rest over the last 4 or 5 weeks, hardly noticing, until I found myself sitting still.

It happened gradually, and life outside WA was to blame. Cathy and I traveled to Vancouver, WA, where we visited family and they had restricted internet. That slowed me down some.

Now we have family visiting us, and our teenage granddaughter has taken over the computer room as her bedroom. They have been here for a couple of weeks and have a week or so to go. I love having them here but they are a distraction.

Their arrival brought me to a stop. I want to respect my granddaughter's privacy, at least I tell myself that I do, so I've not been on the computer at all for about two weeks.

I can't write posts with my cell phone. Well, to be honest, I probably could but it's a pain. And while I'm being honest, I was getting a little burned out. Mostly with finding content ideas. So letting myself stop for a while was easy.

The issue I have is that my at rest inertia is keeping me from moving forward. Fortunately, I'm starting to feel ready to move forward again, and am starting to apply a force (back to writing content) to get moving again.

I've realized that it's easier to keep moving forward than it is to get started again after stopping.

If you're in my boat, beware of the inclination to stay where you are. It's easy to relax and enjoy not having to work on my business. It's a trap though. After a while we get comfortable doing nothing and getting started again gets more difficult.

Things happen in life that cause us to falter, or to change focus for a while. Try not to allow yourself to stop completely. It takes a force of will to start again.

Use inertia in your favor. Keep moving forward.

I'm Grant

I hear you Grant.

Same thing happens to me, especially after the weekend being offline.

It is always great to take some time off, but to me even 3 days in a row is too much. Then I am trying to create a content or research... but I just cant concentrate.

What I recently started to apply when I am in such a state, I watch Jays video live training. I learn new stuff and eventually that drags me slowly back to the “creation state”.

It is not always easy, but I do believe that it is just a matter of practicing.

Let keep our finger crossed :)
Thank you Grant for the post

Cheers
Mike

Great idea, Mike. Anything to give us a little inspiration helps. I’ll have to start watching Jay’s training too.

Grant...I really relate to this and was thinking the exact same thing earlier today. I'm always advising newbies to just stay motion...well I didn't follow my own advice. I got off track from the training and I just can't seem to get back to it. But each day I recommit to it....I think the beautiful summer days are distracting....so I'm hoping for some rain! Lol

Yep, you and I are in the same boat. I got half a post done last night though so maybe I’m starting to move again. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks for sharing, Grant.

No problem

thanks for sharing Grant. I am just rolling off a 2 week break myself. I feel really good this week though - like I needed the rest and now I can go again.
good luck to you, I hope you feel as reinvigorated as I go. Cheers

Thanks
