Do People REALLY Make Money Blogging?

Why Am I Asking?

I'm asking because I haven't made any yet myself. I'm not a newbie, or a rookie. I like the name rookie better, but that's not important. I've been around the WA community for a couple of years now, and I know the answer to my own question.

OF COURSE people really make money blogging. Just not me. Yet.

I'm on a couple of mailing lists that belong to successful, money making bloggers. One is Little Mama. I'm sure a lot of you know her. She went to Las Vegas last year. She'll probably go again this year.

She's one of my heroes because she pulled herself up by her bootstraps, focusing like a laser on writing content.

Anyway, I get her emails promoting the blogging online business model.

There are a lot more WA members earning a good living, or getting there. Tony Hamilton, Vitaliy G, Nathaniell come to mind.

There were 25 or so super affiliates at Vegas last year. That's more proof of success and that the training works.

Alex and Lauren from Create and Go are people that send me emails regularly too. I can't remember how I got on their list, but I did.

They put out a monthly income report. They have two blogs, one that's a health and wellness blog called Avocadu, and the other which is kinda like WA, where they promote their training, called Create and Go. Last MONTH they earned over $130,000 from their two blogs. Here's a screenshot.

That's just one month.

So, I ask myself, why haven't I started making money yet?

All I have to do to answer that question is look in the mirror.

Tell me if this is familiar.

I started out like a ball of fire, full of optimism, writing three or four blogs a week. I built two websites (I still have them both). I started blogging at WA too.

After a few months I started to get writer's block. I'm sure I'm the ONLY member of WA that gets writer's block.

Right?

Rather than fight through it, I slowed down. After a while I slowed WAY down, like posting on my sites once or twice a month.

Am I getting any traffic? Surprisingly, yes. Anywhere from 2 to 5 visitors per day.

I look at my referrals, and so far I have five. Only one has tried to add a profile. The others - nothing.

What Am I Going To Do About It?

Simple answer - refocus. Get back in the game.

I firmly believe that, starting out, the way to build traffic is to write content. Consistently and often. At least 3 posts per week. If you have more than one site and find that you can't do that for each one, then focus on one site only until it's built up.

You GOTTA do it. There's really no shortcut to success.

It's discouraging, I know. I go to analytics and the visitors graph is always low. But, I realize that it's my own fault. I've been quitting on myself.

Maybe you're one of the members who've started succeeding. I appreciate your posts on WA because I know I can too. Keep it up.

The training is important. The search engines aren't people, they don't care about your frustrations, your fears, your motivations.

They just care about your content.

So, I'm back in the game. I'm still waiting for that first premium referral. That'll be confirmation to me, above and beyond the evidence of other people's success, that I can do this.

Quitting is not an option.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. I'll end with a humorous quote by Lee Child in one of his Jack Reacher books.

"Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them you'll have a mile head start and they'll have to chase you in their socks."

I'm Grant.

I think we all have bad days. We all go through the writer's jam. But it is important not to give up. This month I didn't post anything on the blog because of some personal issues. But I want to recover. Let's stay optimistic.
Success in your return.
Carmen

The nice thing, Carmen, is that as long as we keep moving forward, even a little bit, we can hit our stride and succeed!

Good article. When failure isn't an option, neither is quitting.

Be different so you can BE DIFFERENT!!!

So true. It's getting time to hit the gas pedal.

I agree with Paul. It's those that never give up that eventually find success. Jim

Indeed.

Great post... we all go through that at some stage.

I read somewhere that 90% of people give up on their online business within the first year.. if you don't give up and outlast them then with consistent work then you are already ahead of the game.

You are right though... laser focus on content is a key.

Thanks again

Paul

Great comment, Paul. Thanks,

Thanks for the post, I'm in the same boat right now. I'm not doing as well as I would like after almost a year, but I also know it's no one's fault but my own. like you, I will not give up!

Thanks for reading, and for your comment. Maybe we should form a club for struggling content writers. :-)

Wow, Grant, this post is excellent! So true and you are so honest with yourself, you have a big potential! And you know it. Yeah, the hardest thing is to stop with excuses and get on with it. I'm with you, I know all I should do and still don't.
But let's promise to ourselves we'll do all we have to do to shoot the curve upwards.
All the best,
Lenka

Hi, Lenka. Great comment. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Good luck and much success to you.

Thanks, Grant, I empathize with your post. I'm not a newbie and I'm still waiting for the success I dream of too. Like yourself, I slacked off creating content. I also created too many blog sites to work on. But now I'm backing off to working on just a couple and trying to produce steady content. I get writer's block also but have been able to find some PLR material to kick start my writing. Like most people, I can get motivated by reading about others' success.
My husband calls my online efforts my "pretend business". I would love to hit success and "show him" that it is not "pretend". But because of his attitude, I'm constrained in how much I can spend monetarily on my web business. So I'm going to concentrate on creating content for now. I have had several referrals but only 2 upgraded to Premium and now one has dropped out. I've created a special Facebook Group for my Premium referrals and I'm going to be actively mentoring them now.
I'm also promoting the Black Friday Special and hope to pick up more referrals.

Great comment, Shirley. I hope you succeed too. I don't like facebook so it's hard for me to do anything with it. I'm concentrating on Pinterest.

Hi Grant, yes, I made the mistake of starting with two websites instead of one. I am now concentrating on building one up first, like you suggested.

I have picked up my content writing of late, and now have 93 posts on my one site. My goal is 100, and then 150. I am starting to see some good rankings on a few of my posts.

I have heard some successful members say, don't even think of your site earning money until you have at least 100 posts. So it's nose to the grindstone, and no looking up until I hit 100 and beyond.

Write on! Tom

Good luck, Tom. Hopefully we'll both be a lot farther ahead by this time next year.

Thanks Grant. Like you say, just GOTTA do it. All the best, Tom

Excellent post, Grant! Keep on keeping on with that new fire in your belly. I hope it becomes contagious to me, and others here like me!

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff.

Great post and even greater motivation for people such as myself. I wish you the best and one thing you left me with is not to quit. I'm new to all of this but I have passion and I can be persistent. Thanks again Grant.

Staying with it and persisting is the whole key to success. The one guarantee of failure is to quit. As long as you are trying you're still in the game. Keep on keeping on.
