Are We Taking Advantage Of Our WA Blogs?

Hopefully this post doesn’t turn into a bit of a rant. I’m sure it could if I’m not careful, and it’s not my purpose to tick anyone off.

Sometimes I wonder, though, if members of Wealthy Affiliate, especially new members, realize the potential for a good or bad impact that their WA blogs can have on their business. The reason I’m saying this is because our blogs are open to be seen by everyone on the web, including the big search engines like Google.

Boomergp08 wrote a great training post on the subject that really struck home with me, and I recommend it to everyone.

Here’s the link.

If our posts are seen and indexed by the big three search engines, are we harming our rankings when all we do with our blogs here at WA is ask a short question or look for help from the community?

Does a one or two sentence blog post damage our website rankings? Maybe I’m wrong but it seems to me like it might.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to ask for help when we need it, and community members are more than willing to help, including me.

Sometimes, though, I get the impression that members would rather ask than look up answers for themselves I’ll give 4 examples I was going to use the actual questions asked, but decided not to, to protect the innocent.

What I did was type the member’s question in the “Hey Grant, search for help here....” search bar at the top of my WA page.

Example 1.

  • 10 training posts
  • 2 blog posts
On that question.

Example 2.

  • 5 training posts found

Example 3.

  • 6 training posts
  • 5 blog posts

Example 4.

  • 3 training posts
  • 3 questions
  • 3 blog posts found

My point here is that I’m starting to think that some members would rather ask for community help than search for their answers themselves first.

A lot of questions have been asked and answered many times because pretty much every question there is has been encountered before, but people either don’t know how to look or don’t bother.

Wel, that was the “rant” part of my post.

We can use our Wealthy Affiliate log posts to our advantage if we remember that they can be indexed by google. They’re great for learning and perfecting our technique.

If you have a question and can’t find the answer, by all means ask. Write some keyword rich blog posts too.

I’m writing this post on my iPhone. It’s been a learning experience and it’s been slow. My one finger is getting tired, so I’m going to sign off now. Just so you know, writing a post on an iPhone is an incredible pain in the butt!

Please comment, good or bad, on my post. Your thoughts are important to me.

I’m Grant

Good points. Another good way to ask the community a question is to ask the question when you are replying to someone. It will give you the option to ask the community or keep it between you and the other person. I have used this before.

Another great idea.

Grant, that's a great point you brought about writing a post on your android or iPhone.

Well I've the past 2 months I have been forced to type basically all my post by phone. To me it's a good idea to adapt to change. Look at it like this; what if technology fails us in some way.

If things go back to the way it was, then we will be back to square one. Hand Writing!!!

Just a thought!

Great point! I’ve been spoiled. :-)

That's okay, because we all are!

Great scenario...

The other day, went to my appointment, Lo and behold, left my phone at home, and that's where I store my information at. So, when I was registering, I was asked for a family member phone number.

But to my surprise, I did not remember none of me children number by hard. I really felt like a dore, dore. Nothing stored in my memory bank.

Why? Because the phones have been taken the place of our human thinking mechanism.

I thought, this is not good for me nor anyone.
Think about the children Today! Their brains and thinking facaulity
Are null.

Hey, just a part of reality today!

So true, but the rising generation is so much more tech savvy than us.

That's true! I give an Amen to that!

Haha Grant. Great post, when on an iPhone... I know what you mean. I often post using my smartphone and the images especially drive me nuts.

Thanks, LJ. I’ll never post from my iPhone again. It took me a good 2+ hours to write that post.

Great post I think especially being new here we don't know a whole lot of stuff and I guess that it is easier to ask then to bother to ask. But on the other hand, you could be right though if we don't look it up for ourselves we won't learn either so it is kind of a two-edged sword in a matter of speaking. I have been only here a month and I basically search on my own and when I couldn't find the answer then I had asked but that is just me of course.

I commend you on your on your ability to search for yourself, and when or if you don’t find your answer, then asking is the right thing to do. I believe you’re on the right track. :-)
Grant

Thank you so much for your kind words I really appreciate that very much.

Hi Grant....I agree with you in theory and eventually people figure that out. But many people don't know about the search bar...maybe do a training on all the ways to get info. I know our WA blogs get seen by everyone and get ranked but I don't believe that effects our websites.
Debbie

You might be right about that. Maybe someone with more experience than me would know. It just seems logical that if we can help ourselves with our WA blogs then we can hurt ourselves too. Am I way off base with this?

No...we have to maximize all the tools available to us.

Yes.

I have a phone some were that I hate probably flat. I am a slow big one finger typist. The lap top only for me.

My phone didn’t want to let me resize my images. I also had trouble copy and pasting the link. I did learn how to take a screenshot on my phone though. You just hold down the side button and press the home button once. Worked fine. I have an iPhone 7 Plus.

I did have a smart phone until it broke last year. I bought a $10.00 one for older people because the other was smarter than I am. While I was sending you the last message I thought a message was coming through on my computer from Skype etc. It was my phone going flat. I know where it is now.

I think sometimes people are lazy when it comes to questions or if they are new they don't yet know they can often get the info by searching.

I did refer someone to the search bar recently for a question and he came back saying the only info was dated 2015 and how did he know it was still accurate. Good point, sometimes it will be and other times not.

I too want the most up to date info. I'd like it if when I search that the results would show me the year of when it was written without me having to actually click on every result till I find the most current.

~Mark :)

Good point, Mark.

I've been here a long time and still haven't figured out how to use the WA blog most effectively. Sure I can blog at WA, but when I do so I am not blogging on my own site.

When do you blog to WA and when do you blog to your own website? That is my question.

My point was that google and the other search engines can index our WA blogs just like they index out website posts so we should just be aware of that.

OK, I understand and agree with your post. And I was of topic in my reply. I guess I just came up with my next WA Blog post. "When should we post to WA and when should we concentrate on our own website."

Hello gjshawk, yes you can comment on blogs, Although asking question isn't the critique, It is more of asking and getting,

answers like from Classrooms, I have got more answers from members, The wealthy Affiliate search bar is for training,

I think members that have been with us know that, Also sharing somebody's training on blogs is fine but remember your lucky to get it ranked, So my example Blog and it is ranked I'll share

But isn’t training giving us answers to our questions? I’ve used the search bar many times to solve my problem or answer my questions. I’m not saying not to use the community for help, I’m just saying try to find your answers in the training first. Then maybe the same question won’t be asked over and over again.
Maybe I’m looking at it the wrong way?

Does the training know what your asking, In my conversation with you getting answers to questions that are received, The training isn't a conversational, and also it doesn't tell you what you need to further your next step, I hope your alright with this, Thank you

Thank you, I will remember to not use the iPhone for writing, and I will also remember to search before questioning.

I hope you feel better with that off of your chest, and I hope your tired finger gets some rest.

Sheila

Thanks, Sheila. I appreciate your kind reply. Sometimes my writing conveys the wrong meaning. Did you read the link?

I have not had time yet, but I am definitely going to. Thank you for sharing it.

Sheila
