Just checking if Google will still deem it as duplicate content

Hey Angela,

Seeing as Kyle has already helped you by answering your question, I only have a tidbit of info to share with you.

You do not need to extract your article from one website to another. There's an easier way to move it along with any comments you've had on that article.

Here's a tutorial to help you move a post or page form one website to another: Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you. That will be very helpful. :)

Kyle has you covered here :) Kindly let us know if you need additional assistance.

If the other website is indexed, then yes it will be deemed as duplicate content (content copied from your other site).

Google doesn't know ownership, but if you take the content offline, and it is deindexed on the other site, then this can be fine and you will not be punished for this.

Thanks Kyle. Would deleting it from the other site automatically deindex it on that site, the site is indexed at the moment I believe? I'm just not sure how to do this if not.

I'm feeling like my market audience and the topics I want to write about has a wider range now. If you did, has it affected your site's performance?
Thanks in advance,

You can.

Thank you. I see what you mean.

Hey Ange,

Way back at the start, I had 2 different websites that I soon realized were actually categories, so I merge them into a brand new domain name.

Yes, I've noticed a lot less work creating content... and the new site gained more viewers due to the two being merged to become simply different categories.

Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you. Did you create a whole new URL for the 2 of them? How does that work? Would you still somehow keep the 2 URLs of the websites and continue paying for them, or transfer content to a new website and separate the content under categories? I wouldn't have the first clue how to merge them.

LOL, I've told this story so many times now, I should create a post about it. ;-)

I had two sites merged into a brand new domain name.

BOTH sites, I created a backup file for and then cleaned the databases up. This way, all clutter would NOT be transferred to the newly registered domain.

The first domain was super easy to move the content from the old to the new.

I simply created a new backup file (after the database cleaning) from the first one I was taking the content from, and use it to "restore" the brand new domain that was empty of content.

[It's called restoration or importing]
I use the following plugin: back then as there wasn't the same amount of content on each site that there is now on the new domain.

[since then, I've change my backup plugin to All-in-One WP Migration, due to file size]

The second one... well... I took the content from the site that I wanted to move the content from, a bit differently.

I exported only the content so to keep all of the comments, images and attached documents. I also created a backup file of the 2nd site, so that worse come to worse, I'd have a means of retrieving any lost content.

Once I was 100% certain that ALL of the content from BOTH sites were successfully transferred to the new site... I deleted the two old domains of content, and setup redirects from both of them, to be redirected to the newly registered domain that now contained all of the content.

Once the old domain registrations came due, I let them go by unchecking the option to auto-renew.

I mean, what was the point of keeping domain names I no longer had a use for.

AND, it turned out that the newly registered domain was an old domain name that someone had used in years past and no longer wanted it anymore. The domain name received authority for the years it was previously registered for.

BONUS! Right?

As for the categories... each of the old sites had a different category label for the content, and those remained unchanged once merged into the new site.

I had only had BOTH of the old domains for a matter of months when I realized that I had "bit off more than I could chew", creating TWO sites... and they really were more like categories for ONE topic... thus the decision to merge them.

Hope you find this helps you.

Thank you. It's a huge help. Especially how you've laid out the process so well. I really appreciate the effort you have gone to. :)

Hi,
I haven’t but then I’m only coming up to my 2nd year here. I would imagine if you have had the same domain since you joined in 2013, it would have an impact.
Hopefully those who have had a website for as long will be able to assist you further.
I would recommend backing up content if you do decide to move it and have a redirect in place so that visits get directed to your new domain.

Thank you. I've been here since 2013 but didn't fully get involved straight away. I also don't have a great deal of traffic at the moment. It's more about whether a name change that doesn't represent the actual URL will be a problem.

My daughter is hoping to help her boyfriend's 14 year old daughter to open an account and learn affiliate marketing. He has given permission but we are unsure of what the best

She can start with sites like youtube and instagram. Most people her age or even younger do well on such sites. You can also make a search for successful young entrepreneurs.

Thank you

Most states require work permits for anyone under 18.
Marilyn

Thanks Marilyn. We are in Australia so it might be different here. Will have to check it out.

First of all, she cannot sign because of her age. Any contracts she wants to enter into it will always be your signature. but with the right guidance from you, everything will work properly.

Thank you

Yep. She needs her father's help initially. Hence 100% trust both ways. As Raz says - better an Agreement in writing. My experience is that family members can turn weird! Hope not in your case, Ange, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks Barbara. That's exactly the reason why we are seeking advice. The last thing we want is for there to be any issues and it is so true what you say about families getting weird sometimes. We want to dot all the 'i's and cross all the 't's.

I think for a start, her father should open the account on her behalf. Prior to creating a paypal account or any money concerning issue, best that both parent and child have an agreement to have both of them monitoring the account until the parent feels its time for the child to manage on her own.
Good start for a 14 y.o. to get herself exposed to WA.
Just my opinion.
Hope that helps.

Raz

Thanks Raz. We've been wondering how to go about doing the Paypal side of things

Steph is correct I believe!
Ed

Thanks Ed.

This is a great question. I think it is good advice to have her father do it on her behalf, but once all of the account information is setup, she can take it from there. I think it will be a great teaching tool for the 14 year old to learn early how to make money the right way on the internet. She will learn skills that she can carry on down the road.

Hi Steph. Thank you. Does this mean that he should open the account in his name and give her one of his free websites to work with or would it still be in her name?

Forgive me if there has been a training or other blog related to this already, the question just popped into my head. I was looking at some of my category titles on my websites

Absolutely, I do use them in Titles on posts and pages. Also in categories and tabs... :-)

Thank you. It appears I have a bit of thinking about and altering some of my pages/categories.

Spread that keyword every where... :-)

Thanks again

Categories are used in ranking in terms of relevance - so an uncategorised article will be seen as less relevant than one on SEO that is under the category marketing. It reaffirms to google that this post is what it says it's about.

That makes perfect sense!

~Debra

Thank you very much for explaining this side of SEO.

Thanks so far for your responses. Just to let you know, I do include keywords in my post titles and in the first paragraph etc throughout a blog post, it is the 'category' titles and 'page' titles that my question relates to specifically. My line of thought is with what happens when a visitor actually comes to my site, will they flick through my categories and pages, or will they come purely for the keywords and ignore my categories and page titles?

They will flip through your posts, pages, search and categories if your your page has enticed them to do so. They will want to get as much info as there is to have about you, what you value, what you blog about etc. so they know you are the one to take suggestions from. This is what you want to encourage anyway you can. If you think you can draw them in by using keywords in your categories, you go girl.

~D

Thanks Debra. I really appreciate the advice and insight into what a reader might be looking for.

Absolutely!

Yes, include keywords in your post and page titles, and again in the first paragraph and try to use the keyword at the beginning of the paragraph if possible.
Valerie

Yes, Keywords should go in the title, the 1st and last paragraphs and sprinkled a few times within your content. How many times depends on how long your content is. Your keyword (or long tailed keyword should also go in your meta description as well.

~Debra

I put my keyword in my sub-title and in my first paragraph.
Marilyn

Page titles, yes, they are a part of site ranking, Categories, not so sure about.

~Debra

Thanks Debra. I may definitely have to rethink on some of my page titles then. I was originally thinking the page titles or category titles might generate interest in looking through the site once a visitor was there, but now I'm having second thoughts, regardless of whether I like it, my visitors might not really care.

OK, I don't think they will care as much as you think, but keep in mind that your menu items can be anything you want them to be, regardless of what your page title is. You can change it under "Appearances", "Menu" This is where you will set up what your menu(s) will look like.

~Debra.

I am interested in the experience of others on this also. Cheers Jill

I need step by step instructions. It doesn't look as easy as when I transferred a Name cheap purchased one. I've read a couple of people's responses to other people's questions

Hi
I have just had a look at godaddy, there is not such thing.

It seems there is an additional cost and they all want to receive transfer domains, not let go of the ones they have.
please help.

I followed the 2 trainings given to me below and I'm not sure why they would be trying to charge you, I didn't have anything like that happen. I may have used the incorrect terms in my question. I was needing to point the GoDaddy domain name I had just bought to the WA hosting. The training links that were given to me and that I've just pasted here helped me do it.

Hello there Give It A Go
just go to your hosting company go to your domains that will be manage domains and in the manage domains section you'll see something that says name servers on acronym similar to it depending upon the hosting company

and you just point to servers to your new host sometimes this takes 24 hours 4/don't quote me on that if you're not too sure just contact their support it will be more and happy to walk you through it if your account is up to date very good question ,

Thanks Rocwell, all done and dusted the other night thanks to a couple of links to an article and video. I appreciate the help though. Have a fantastic day! Ange

Thanks Kay!
Ed

Another training as well ;o) Cheers, Kay

PS: By the way, it not "transferring" its only pointing to WA servers. Your registrar stays GoDaddy.

Thanks Kay, I'm never sure of the appropriate language. I'm glad you told me that. I've really got no idea yet, LOL.

Thanks, this was very helpful. All done. And it didn't take long at all. Whoohoo!

Did you see this video yet?

Wow. No I haven't. Thanks so much. Will go and check it out. Looks like that is one that will probably have all the answers I need. I might have to do it tomorrow though, its after midnight here. I'll let you know how it went. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Ange

No problem, Ange! Let me know if that doesn't work! :-)

Thanks. All Done. I used both the video you linked me to and the information from Kay above. The video was a bit older information but still very useful. It didn't take very long at all and now I'm up and running. I decided to just stay up and do it. Nearly 2am now, but I'll sleep better for it.
