This week a true experience of working from home

As mentioned in my last post (https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/giuliab/blog/my-ex...), this week I was at home for the whole week due to some annual leave that my employer owed me before the end of UK financial year at the end of March. And this week I had a real golden opportunity to taste what it is like to work from home!

This week spent at home was certainly an eye opener for me. I could finally catch up with a lot of unfinished (or never started) stuff in the house. Now, I am nowhere near the ideal of domestic goddess, but even I finally managed to take care of my home and to love it again. All that I would have taken time off work to sort out - the engineer's call out to fix the washing machine, the carpet man coming to change the carpet in my son's bedroom - all of these things I managed to do whilst working at the same time. Because I was at home.

And I worked, I did work. Not only on house chores, but I worked hard on my websites, finally managing to publish as much and as often as I would like in an ideal work.

So, to all those out there that think that stop-at-home mums (and indeed dads) have an easy life, they don't know how wrong they are. Working at keeping a clean and tidy house and family is not an easy task at all! But hat off to all of those people who are home based, not only for managing a household and family, but also to work online. Because the fact that you are home-based does not necessarily mean you work less hours than if you were sitting behind an office desk. If at all, you end up working more than ever!

The difference, however, is that you work for yourself, not for an employer, hence realising an incomparable sense of achievement, which makes you feel better within yourself - in other words, your quality of life and well-being improve noticeably.

It's a shame that financially I am not yet strong enough to take that leap of faith and go 'solo' on my home-based online business. But my vision this week found new motivation. More than ever, after this week's experience, I want to make a success of my online business. Because this is the life style I want, this is the life style that makes me happy - a life which I manage, not my employers. A life that will regain me quality over quantity.

If this is the life style you are aspiring to as well, or if you already managed to fulfil your dreams of a successful home-based business, do leave your comments below. And if you can, press the 'Like This' green button.

May WA bring you all success in all that you are aiming for!!

Very nice post Giulia. It sounds like the week was definitely a productive one for you. There are so many benefits associated with being able to work from home as you just experienced. Hopefully it won't be long before you'll be able to do this full-time.
Jerome

Keep fingers crossed for me Jerome!!

I have them double crossed.

Well said...enjoy it...

Thank you Arthur. When younger, I used to enjoy my employed life much more, but always thought I may be able to take early retirement and enjoy life a little bit longer before 'popping the clog'. Goal posts and retirement laws have changed so much in this country, that retirement age will be shifted to 70 and over by the time I get there - if I ever do!!
I don't think it is too greedy to want it and to want it all now. I am not aiming to an easy life. I am aiming to a life of hard work, but also a life of regained freedom.

Very well said!

The air of expectancy. Imagining you are there, seeing yourself as it will be. Focusing on the tasks to accomplish your goals. To bring about the lifestyle you strive. Best wishes for your success.

I know, sometimes reality does not meet expectations when you finally get there. Well, this week gave me a real taster of it, and my reality this week was exactly as I have been picturing my dream. And I loved each and every bit of it!!

Good one

Thanks Alexandra :)

Thanks for sharing your experience. It paints a nice picture of working from home and does motivate me to keep moving forward. Debbie

Yes Debbie, the sense of freedom I felt in these last few days, in spite of the really hard work, I had never felt before. It's rejuvenating, a real boost to your morale and well being. Something to aim and remind ourselves of whenever the online work seems to be getting a bit overwhelming!

Hi there guilia
Great post and thanks for sharing
When you do start to make more money from your online business, you will make a better schedule for yourself.
You will be able to organise your day better...you will have that emotional freedom, which is worth more than anything else
I am striving for that day as well
So for the moment, like you I have a day job to go to....
Someday I will be able to get up in the morning and suddnely realise that all the hard work I put into my website will pay-off
and have been worth all the effort
Cheers and best wishes
PB

Yeah definitely Phil. And in a way, at the moment, although my day job gives me 'the money', it's getting in the way to my working to develop my online business more and further. Like an inconvenience, if you will.
I sound ungrateful, but I am not. It's just that, when you reach a certain age, I guess, your priorities change.
And like you, I keep waking up every day in the hope that that day of regained freedom is not going to be too far off...

working from home RULES!

Other than the obvious lack of financial security, Patrick, as far as I am concern, I can only see benefits to it!!

Good afternoon Giulia,

I can imagine you being happy with your week at home and to get so many things done. I stopped working in 1986, well, the word stopped is actually not correct at all. I live a bit inland from the coast in a now 180 year old finca=farm house. When I stopped working the work really started I can tell you and I loved every minute. Also heavy work like building, the things I have done are still standing by the way, and I think I should have become an architect after all. Now , since a few month, this extra thing of making web sites, an unusual and challenging experience I must say. Anyhow, I have now come to the conclusion, that a day needs more hours.

Have a nice Sunday, Taetske

Oh yes, absolutely Taetske, I am still after a 48hr day, but haven't found it anywhere yet #lol
But seriously, this is the difference between working for others and working for oneself. As you mention, it is undoubtedly hard work, but it is work whose fruits you benefit from directly. There are jobs out there that require a vocation. I am thinking particularly clinical or teaching jobs. You need to be employed by a governing body after all, but you would not be able to do such jobs solely for the money.
Other jobs, however, in fact I believe the majority of different roles, loose their sparkle after a little while. I think that's what's been happening with me - I've worked in many different roles, after a while I get fed up and look for something else.
But, would I get fed up of home based working? NO, NO, NO, absolutely no. I would not focus solely on being a good 'home maker', but I would develop in my writing. As well as managing my days and time, and who I spend it with, all by myself.
Great feeling!!

Love this post, Giulia, and yes, isn't this what all of us are aiming for, now you have a clear picture in your head of what you are aiming for, you should be able to reach it easier. I do hope so:-))Steph

Yes, I suppose you are right Steph. If we are here, it's because we have a couple of common goals that we all aim to: becoming economically comfortable or more comfortable, and regaining our freedom to organise our lives without depending on a boss. Yep, the carrot that keeps dangling before the tip of our nose... every day ... so we don't forget what we are doing all this for.
All the very best to you too, my lovely!!

Excellent motivational post.

Well yes, this week has certainly renewed my motivation as to the real reason why I am here. I guess it will make it a little more painful to be back in work in the next few days!!
