There is nothing more distracting than Wealthy Affiliate!

For the many of us who have now been with WA for a while, the one thing that is apparent is the endless well of information and teaching material available here. Not to mention all the additional links, tips and tutorials the community offers. As I often mention, a real Aladdin's cave!

Yet, don't tell me Iam the only one here to fall pray to the 'loosing focus' syndrome?!?! To clarify, let me give you an example.

This morning I wanted to better understand how to use Facebook. I found a really good training by our friend Robert here - which in passing I want to bring to your attention, should there still be in this world a few of you who like me know absolutely nothing about FB:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-us...

But hey, watch this space, I am digressing already!!! #lol

The point I am making is exactly this, however. What I did this morning is, from Robert's training, I went onto my FB profile to put in practice his instructions. Once there, I saw some notifications which I ended checking up. One of them was an acceptance of a couple of groups much relevant to both my niches and to WA. So, from there I started liking posts and pictures of Border Terriers (same breed as my dog Indy) and to start chatting to a few WA members for advice.... To make a long story short, before I knew that, an hour had gone by without me even having completed Robert's training!!!

Moral of the story: NEVER LOOSE FOCUS WHEN YOU WORK ON WA. There is ever so much to learn here, that I feel really fortunate to have landed in a place where, no matter what my question is, I get an answer, and a thorough one too. But sometimes we must remember to stick to our 'to do' list of the day, in order not to get drowned in that sea of knowledge that is WA!!

Much love & keep up the good weekend work :)

Giulia

Yes, social media will make you lose focus if you do not engage in it properly. The same can be said about WA which is another form of social media.

When I go on social media for promoting my business, I get right to it. I do not even pay attention to any notifications I have. I get what I came there for done first.

Only AFTER I have my business to-do list done will I entertain looking and/or replying to my notifications. I take the same approach with WA and I help myself by doing the following.

I disable about half of the email notifications WA sends to its members. I only receive emails for notifications that are not displayed in the above Activity Dashboard.

Seeing how I log into WA at least once per day, why should I clog up my email with notifications that I will get within WA? This helps quite a bit to keep from losing focus.

And that's my problem I think, Robert: I don't use the dashboard here as much as I should, and rely more on the notification emails. How silly is that?!?!?! I'm gonna have to make it a habit of clicking on the WA dashboard more regularly so that I can free my inbox.

I am sure that a majority of members do not realize that most of what they receive in their emails can be accessed from within their own WA notifications.

If you log into WA on a daily basis, there is no need to be getting email notifications that will also appear within your WA notifications.

I agree with you Giulia. ValereJoy's suggestion about a To Do list is very important. There are so many ways to become distracted.

My take on this is we are hungry for knowledge and there is so much to learn. Think about it - without that list, you could be on the computer 24 hours each day and still not achieve what needs to be done!

Start that list and place your most important task(s) at the top. If you come across other items in your browsing, make a note to follow them later. They can wait! I hope this is of some assistance for you.

I'll tell you what I'm finding of help: my Notes feature on my phone. It's much better than jotting down thoughts on a piece of paper, as I might come across inspirational ideas at any time, whilst at work, or during the news or whilst I'm out with the dog.

I have the same dilemma often! I've caught myself plenty of times digressing from my actual goal after starting on a task. I would research a specific thing I'm confused about, then sometimes I find another link in one of the responses in the tutorial I found and I would go to that link.

There have been plenty of days where it took me several hours before I completed my original goal because I'd come across so many other great lessons that I wanted to learn about.

Same here, soooo many times!

Thanks Giulia for this post. It is just what I need in respect to Facebook.

And, loosing focus is something I do regularly and that's why I try to work with my To Do list. Often I don't achieve in one day what I set out to do and that is simply because of the wonderful and amazing content and community so easily accessible at Wealthy Affiliate.

Yes, you are right. I suspect Robert's suggestion to stick to the to do list and do nothing else till it's completed, is possibly the best solution. But... WA community is soooo tempting!!

So true...!!

Hi Giulia
I have found myself in the same predicament. I have a big list of emails to get back to but I had to stick to my main plan which is to get my blog in shape before applying to affiliated. I take every Tuesday as a learning day to work on WA lessons and go back to emails that have important lessons. Your message is probably helpful to other members. It reminds us that we have common problems but like you said there's always someone who can help

Luthor

And that's the problem, if you will: this community is far too good!! If there were no appeal to connect, here or on social groups, if this platform delivered no training or anything else of interest, we would probably wander off our to do list a little bit less away :)

Hi Giulia - Definitely many distractions here. Having said that usually it is something quite valuable from a learning perspective. Quite often I find myself goiing off in various directions when I find a subject of interest. At some point there will have to be a saturation point and I will need to move on with building my. Business. For now I am content on just soaking it all in. Thanks for posting.

Ditto Patrick, ditto :)

Excellent....I mentioned something like this once in "Chat" and opened up a can of worms......"it is easy to get distracted in WA"...because there is so much offered in an attempt to be totally complete and thorough.

I doubt that WA will ever fully address this though. The longer you stay in training...the longer you keep paying monthly or yearly dues.

To be honest, I am not sure WA doesn't do anything about it so long as the money keeps coming. Call me naive, but I like to think they are better than this - although I agree, at the end of the day this is their living, and possibly a comfortable one too.

But WA team have been addressing a lot of issues in the short time that I have been here. It may be more the case of members, such as me, learning to be more self-disciplined and streamlining through the ocean of notification emails we get every day, for the ones that are relevant to us.

In passing, chat is the one thing here I have never even begun to entertain.

I do it all the time! That being said, absolutely you need to stay focused. I can spend a lot of hours just surfing and socializing within Wealthy Affiliate!

IN reference to your post, I'm on a lesson that I'm not really enjoying! It's My excuse and only am I responsible for that decision.

However, with that being the case, it makes it more difficult to get back on track. I'm actually finding every reason not to go back to it! Just being honest!

Plus, I have a lot of fun reading the comments, as well as leaving a return comment. Replying to posts much like this, replying to following you back etc. and most of all connecting!

I've met some really fabulous people on Wealthy Affiliate, much like yourself, so when an email notification comes through, I have to read and respond!

Ok, with that being said, your post gave me the ambition to tackle that lesson and eliminate any further procrastinating. I thank you for that Giulia!

There you have it! Another excellent, "Hot off the Press," post!
Well done my friend, well done. Actually give yourself a pat on the back, lol! See I remember that from your last post. Haha! :)

Have an aswesome time with the use of your time!

Regards,

Becky

Oh Becky, you make me laugh. I was in fact about to say to you: 'Come on girl, get on with that lesson. The sooner you get back to it, the sooner you will be over it!'. But then see? You did it, and all by yourself!!
So, pat on the shoulder to you, my lovely. You are getting there.

P.S. But you are right, meeting lovely people here on WA is lethal for short attention spanned people like us. Oh I so wish people weren't that nice here on WA!! #lol

JOKE!!! You know I love you all xxx

It's true though. We'll just blame them for being too kind, lol!

Another great post!

Keep writing Posts BECAUSE they are fun to read.

See, we're doing it now, lol! I tell you I've got to stay away from the email alerts! Never going to happen!

Have a good one my freind!

Becky

Thanks for the reminder Guilia! I agree - it's so very easy to get caught up, get distracted with something and then the minutes (and hours) can just fly by. I think a lot of us struggle with trying to stay on track sometimes when there is so much out there to distract us!

Too much maybe, some question. I am not sure it is too much. There is always good and bad in everything. It is down to the individual to know how to self manage. And in my case, I need to watch my time management and be more selective, that's for sure :)

Very true. It's easy to get caught up in the social aspect of WA, and the other non related aspects instead of focusing on creating content, or other productive pursuits. I have to be disciplined as I work a full time job, and only have some part time hours to work on WA. Responding to your interesting post would probably fall in to the non essential category, so I am proving your point by doing so. Tom

Oh dear Tom, I am sorry I took you away from your content writing. I didn't expect my blog to be that tempting, but yes, I know what you mean... :)
